The opening moments with the text messages and then all of the aliens/Others/mutants assembling was really cool. Seeing all of them assembled like that just made everything surrounding them feel a lot bigger.
Sofia first seemed like somewhat of a hero, but wow can she be cold. If I were Thomas and I was having trouble shooting her, her egging me on would have helped me pull the trigger. What she did to Isabelle seemed mean, even if the trust had been violated.
“Why is it that so many great men die young, while the mediocre seem always to survive?”
When I don’t comment soon after I watch the show, it seems I always forget something and last week it was the young girls with the old faces Samantha met in the close of the last one. These girls have got to be what Dempsey is using to become young again as that line showed his line of thinking. He is a “great man” and owes it to the world to live as long as he can.
Vice President Jarvis did survive (probably another part of Dempsey’s reference), but it seems President Martinez won’t be getting anything out of him once he actually asks. I half expected Mrs. Jarvis to kill her husband, but I guess she was just passing the message.
In Sean & Leila’s world (it really does feel like they’ve got their own thing happening here), I was glad to see Agent Collier (or Angela) was still in the picture as she had been a help to them and obviously has some level of resources. Obviously, I hope they find Samantha before she gets too many of these mysterious injections.
Always nice to see actor Josh Randall (Dr. Mike Burton of Ed), though most of the time when I see him anyway, he’s a jerk guest star on a serialized drama (Lost). The chase was exciting, but the end was a surprised.
“I don’t think he was here for Abby.”
“What are you talking about?”
“He was here for you.”
No one commented last week after my late comments and I’m the first one again, so it seems we are dangerously low on fans. I came upon a great Zap2it column yesterday and the questions ring very true with me:
'The Event' hiatus: Long nap or death sentence?
I am overall still enjoying the show and intend to watch it when it returns, but I am more inclined to think ‘death sentence’ with this long break coming. I haven’t been following the ratings very closely (just know that they have gone down), but this seems like something the show won’t recover from.
The fall finale is tonight. The show started so strong here that I didn’t want to merge all the talkbacks together to make a season one. How would people feel about a ‘Season 1.5’ thread in February? It’s something I’m considering, though I kind of hate to do two different things with one season of a show.

You know, I should get to these earlier so I don’t forget half of what I wanted to say.
These future aliens got away too easy with fooling the government agents when they framed that one guy.
I guess we’re supposed to be like dogs to them. They pretend to throw a ball and we go chasing after it.
But when they deal with each other, they ain’t so bright.
Isabel didn’t have a backup plan when trying to kill Sophie. And her plan had one really weak link.
What a weak choice Sophia gave her. Even if the one bullet wasn’t enough of a sure thing to kill Sophia, it would have stopped her long enough for Isabel to pull out another gun and finish the job and they would be in the same spot as if Tomas killed her. Assuming Isabel was smart enough to bring a gun to the clandestine meeting.
They’re kind of working under jungle rules in the primitive world of modern day America…..
So leaving a deadly enemy live didn’t look like a smart move either. Compared to Zod on Smallville, Zod was a psychopath, but there was little danger of him loosing control over his people.
I thought the vice presidents wife was going to kill him too.
I expected her to be part of the conspiracy. Her caving into a death threat, seemed a bit off. Yeah, people can get frightened, but considering how many death threats people in those positions get, I don’t know.
Almost forgot:
They have a Prime Directive!
Oh-No!
Someone call Star Fleet on them!

I don't think she did. Otherwise, things probably would have played out as you described.

This isn't some dude in a cabin in the middle of nowhere though. Remember, Mrs. Jarvis said they came to the house and knew where their kids were. Obviously these are Dempsey's people and we know they mean business.
I hope to watch the fall finale yet today or tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.
