Wow, low box office this week. I don't imagine it getting any better next week, either. However, 2 weeks from now Toy Story 3 hits, and if that doesn't do big box office, nothing this summer will.
For the third week in a row, Shrek Forever After has remained the number one movie earning another $25.3 million and jumping it's total now to $183 million.
Opening in second place was the Judd Apatow produced comedy Get Him to the Greek with $17.4 million.
And opening as well and in third place was Killers with $16.1 million.
Dropping to fourth place was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with $13.9 million and a $59.4 million total.
And rounding out the top 5 is Sex and the City 2 which falls from second to fifth with $12.6 million and a $73.4 million total.
Also opening this weekend was Marmaduke which opened in sixth with $11.3 million.
And opening as well was Splice in eighth place with $7.4 million.
Opening in eleventh place in 124 theaters was Raajneeti with $917,000.
Out of the top 12 is Just Wright (13th), How to Train Your Dragon (14th), and Alice in Wonderland (17th).
Opening next weekend are two new movies. First up is the movie adaptation of the popular 80's TV series The A-Team (rated PG-13). It stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Sharlto Copley, Jessica Biel, Patrick Wilson, and Gerald McRane.
And the other new film of the weekend is a remake of another 80's property, The Karate Kid (rated PG). This one stars Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith, and Taraji P. Henson.

Spoiler:
I'm so glad The Karate Kid is finally coming out. Not that I wanna see it, but just about every movie I've seen in theaters recently showed that trailer and I'm sick of seeing it.
To any ladies who saw it and the original, is Sex and the City 2 pretty much a carbon copy of what happened in the original? And any word if Mr. T will be in the A-Team movie, same as how Leonard Nimoy played the elder Spock in last year's Star Trek?
Wow Killers got third place, who would have predicted that![]()

MacGruber's already showing at the local dollar cinema here. I've never seen a film go from the major cinemas all the way to the cheap seats so quickly.

Mr. T was offered a cameo but was said to have politely turned it down. He said he didn't want to be the focus of any kind (big or small) on this restart of the franchise and wanted the new film and new actors in it to be able to have a clean start.
I don't blame him and respect his decison. Because what do we all remember most about The A-Team? The theme song, and Mr. T.
The new movie looks like it'll be a lot of fun, but something I'm going to wait for Netflix.

...and it will, given how Toy Story 3, when it comes out, will take away from Shrek 4 a number of the 3D theaters that's allowing the film to stay number 1 at the box office.

So Silverstar, still think Get Him to the Greek is more "mainstream" than Sex and the City?

This has been one of the weakest performing summers in recent memory.

Kick-Ass says hi. It's been in my local $4 a movie theater since, I believe, two/three weeks ago. With only one time left, it'll be out of Maryland before the summer's out.
And yet A.O. Scott said, on At the Movies, that the 3D did nothing for Shrek Forever After so it might be best to see Toy Story 3 in regular 2D since Shrek was better that way when I saw it two weeks ago.
Even though I read on the previous Weekend Box Office thread that the film didn't become a bigger bomb than it should had been but the film, to most people and me, wasn't worth the time.

Swap 1 and 3 and I say it's just about right.
It really depends on what you're looking for. If you want things to jump out of the screen at you (like in How to Train Your Dragon), then Shrek 4 is mostly pointless to watch in 3-D. If you want added depth and to feel like you're immersed in the world of the movie, then it is worth the 3-D, just don't sit too far from the screen (like I accidentally did my first time).
I think The A-Team will do right at home at the top of the box office this coming weekend. I think more people want some excitement after having it being sucked out of theaters after they went to see Iron Man 2 and Robin Hood. As for watching movies in 3D, for me being unemployed, if I get any money between now and when I get a job, IF I even get a job this summer or any time this year, then I'll just see movies in 2D. I'll force myself to not spend the extra cash for a medium that will be non-existent in homes until everyone have the money to afford the 3D HDTVs and the home video format is adjusted to be used for ONLY those televisions.

I'm not putting too much stock in the new Karate Kid, which is why I say it'll come in at #3. Jackie Chan's not the box office draw he once was, Jaden Smith, not to knock the kid's acting abilities, because he does have them, has a long way to go before he's the box office draw that his father is, and finally, the new KK just doesn't seem to be very good from the trailers.
