"Sex and the City 2" Talkback (Spoilers)

    Like This Thread!

    Carrie On.

    Release date: May 27, 2010
Studio: Warner Brothers/New Line Cinema/HBO Films
    Director: Michael Patrick King
Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Chris Noth

Plot Summary: Two years have passed since Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) finally bagged John "Mr. Big" Preston (Chris Noth), the man she was always meant to be with. Just as her friend Charlotte (Kristin Davis) must deal with her young daughter's "terrible two's" (various child actresses), Carrie must deal with her relationship taking a turn for the worse - Big likes to watch old black-and-white movies on TV and eat take-out food, which prevents Carrie from feeling like the free-wheeling party girl she used to be. Meanwhile, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) copes with a new boss that can't handle an intelligent, powerful woman, and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) works a public relations angle that gets the fashionable foursome an all-expense-paid trip to Abu Dhabi.

    COMMENTS?

...Did I enjoy the movie? Yes. Do I think it's for non-fans? No. Do I feel it lives up to the TV series and the first movie? Maybe and no.

Watching the TV series, I kept asking myself, "Why the hell do I watch this show?" The first movie answered all that for me - the friendship at the heart. But this one just ruins it! It buries it all in more fanservice than a Megan Fox film, more shirtless men than Twilight, and more product placement than Yu-Gi-Oh! (none of that is an exaggeration btw)... at least for the first half. The second half seemed to turn it around when Charlotte and Miranda discussed finding themselves away from home, Samantha got arrested (I thought it was going to be for something more embarrasing), and the race against the clock... though the very end focused too much on Carrie IMO (just like the series finale of the TV show).

It wasn't a bad movie, but if you're not a fan of Sex and the City in any form, stay away.

According to the Television Without Pity review...

...the movie has more painful dialogue than an entire season of Smallville.

    Burn.

Well, I saw it earlier and overall I loved it. Everybody was in character, it felt like a natural progression from the first movie, it was pretty to look at, I actually liked it had a lot of shirtless men, and I'm glad that some of the characters who got shafted in the first movie had more to do in this one.

Mainly Charolette had her whole personal "nanny-drama" which was good because she was way too perfect in the first movie. Also, with this movie we have Samantha return to being Samantha which was how she was throughout the TV series and that was good because the first movie focused more on bringing closure to the whole Smith scenario.

I felt it was unnecessary to make a second movie and so quickly after the first one but in the end it worked out for the better and didn't suffer the same sequel-itis a lot of films tend to suffer through.
