"TNA iMPACT!" April 19, 2010 Talkback (Spoilers)

    Like This Thread!
Lockdown saw Team Hogan defeated Team Flair and A.J. Styles successfully defended his World Title against The Pope. We also have new champions, with Madison Rayne getting the pin to become the Knockout Champion and Kazarian beating Shannon Moore and Homicide to win the X Division Title when Douglas Williams was stripped of the title when he couldn't make it due to the travel difficulties in Europe.

Based on how it was presented last week, I was given the impression that ReAction was going to be weekly, but it is not on right now.

PREVIEW FOR MONDAY'S HUGE IMPACT ON SPIKE TV - NOW STARTING ONE HOUR EARLIER AT 8/7C

Reminder: Every Monday, Hulk Hogan brings uncensored Hulkamania to Sirius XM Radio at 7ET / 4PT with “Hulk Hogan Uncensored” on Howard 101

This Monday night at 8/7c, experience the aftermath from the "Lockdown" Pay-Per-View event on SpikeTV!

    - Which former TNA World Champion will be next to face AJ Styles for the World Title? Could it be RVD, Jeff Jarrett, Jeff Hardy or another former Champion?

    - The Beautiful People will defend the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship against Daffney and a partner of her choice

    - What will be the fallout from the Lethal Lockdown match from Sunday as Team Hogan defeated Team Flair?

    - Plus, all of your favorite TNA Superstars will be in attendance, including Hulk Hogan, AJ Styles, Ric Flair, The Pope, Abyss, Mr. Anderson, Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash, Desmond Wolfe and many more!

All this and much more - it all goes down tonight at 8/7c on SpikeTV - don't miss it!

This thread is to discuss tonight's iMPACT! only. Spoilers for RAW are not appropriate here as all may not be able to watch the show this evening. Put another way: No RAW Spoilers!

If you take away that the first 20 minutes were just talk, I'm not minding tonight's Impact! We have

TNA Knockouts Tag Team Title: The Beautiful People vs. ODB and Daffney
#1 Contender's Match: RVD vs. Jeff Hardy
Lockdown Rematch: Team Hogan (Abyss, Jeff Jarrett, Rob Terry, and a person TBA) vs. Team Flair (Beer Money, Sting, and Desmond Wolfe)
TNA World Title Match: AJ Styles vs. Winner of #1 contender's match

The shows leading up to the PPV weren't that great, but tonight's is truly turning into an awesome show. If they'd only take away some of the talk time and turn it into more matches it'd be like the TNA that had everyone truly screaming TNA!

Why now? Why did RVD get the title now?

Why couldn't AJ feud with RVD? This seemed sudden.

They need to book Joe like that every week for at least four or five months. Just come out, beat people down, and do his thing. No convoluted storylines and all this other mess. Just "Joe hates you, so you will die." It's what made him famous to begin with, and if they stick to it, they could recover a ton of lost ground with the crap they handed him the last year or so.

Yea, old school Joe is great. Just let him be like that for awhile and he'll be champ before too long.

Joe escaped the evil ninja fortress and is now back to just hurting people?

    Well, that's a plus.

The only match I caught last night was the beginning of the main event, which I assumed AJ Styles was going to win. When I turned the channel back later, I saw Rob Van Dam celebrating in the ring and was beyond shocked. Guess I'll have to check out the replay on Thursday.

TNA was presented with a golden opportunity to turn things around, ratings-wise, with a depleted WWE roster for Raw. Hot-shotting a title change should've done the trick, but we'll wait for the ratings to tell the tale later.

6 weeks after arriving in TNA, Rob Van Dam is a champion. That will make some people very upset, I'm sure, but I think I've already spelled out the rationale behind the title change.

I wasn't on board with AJ Styles as a Ric Flair clone, and with good reason. While he tried to talk like Flair, he looked and dressed, especially with sunglasses, like Tully Blanchard. Flair has taken the Vince McMahon tack and gone completely bonkers. Instead of fighting Abyss next week, Flair should seek out Vince Russo and give him a beatdown for putting his & Hogan's HOF rings up in a match.

I watched the end of that 8-man match on the PIP feature on my set. I guess they've decided to forget what happened to Samoa Joe. Wonder if he choked out Russo.........

I am SO not digging the Skank Sisters hogging the Knockout belts. They almost never win a match without having to use some sort of shortcut. In my eyes, they're not champs, but chumps. Do the right thing, TNA, and strip these bimbos of those belts NOW!

It's like TNA decided they don't have to try to hook people at 8 because RAW isn't on yet. Twenty-plus minutes of talking from four people (where most of it seemed to come from Hogan) is not an exciting start. I know RAW often starts with a talking segment, but that long for TNA? No.

So Ric Flair has cameramen passing him information now? Couldn't JB, Christy or Bubba the Love Sponge have told him? You have more backstage interviewers than basically anyone ever, pick one and use them. Heck, use SoCalVal if you need to. JB trying to eavesdrop on Flair and A.J. later wasn't much better.

Still not entertained by Matt Morgan going around talking like the Batman Forever version of Two-Face. Shannon Moore obviously saw what happened to Amazing Red last week.

I'm excited to hear that the Championship Rankings are finally coming. I thought it sounded like a cool idea and I'm interested to see what it looks like.

RVD vs. Jeff was a solid match and a strong way to lead into iMPACT!'s second hour. I have to question giving it away with such little hype, but I guess that's why it was announced in the first segment. RVD and Jeff watching highlights was a momentum killer for me. It was boring.

I found the Lockdown rematch a bit surprising, especially since Team Hogan was half different. I swore it sounded like "The Great" Rob Terry last time, but apparently it's "The Freak" Rob Terry. Not much better. He's good at closelining and throwing people around though.

Apparently the ninjas stole Joe's boxing shorts with the "flair" on the sides so he had to go back to his old outfit. His return makes that abduction and bizarre commercial break mini video even more random, but this means it's over.

If I'm the actual man, Ric Flair, I either demand I beat Abyss or a prop ring be made. If that thing means anything to me, I don't want it being used as a prop.

I would have expected RVD-Styles to be the start of a feud and not just a straight Van Dam victory. We'll see what happens from here. There was no build on this and I guess that can be okay, but the ring-crowding celebration was an insult to all other ring crowded celebrations that actually deserved it.

Why does it not surprise me that after I give up on TNA (again), they put on a great show? Now I'm going to have to catch the replay on Thursday.

I won't often come to the defense of TNA, but having the Hardy/ RVD match run into the second hour of the program was a good idea, if solely for no other reason than the RAW talking segment to begin the show took-----20 minutes, the same as TNA's. Let me say though that TNA's effort to get ratings next week by unveiling the ranking system is going to bomb on them. Typically the WWE Draft Lottery is one of the top 5 wrestling shows of the year. It is next week. It starts at the same time as TNA. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if TNA gets a .5 or lower next week, despite putting on an awesome show this week.

RVD winning the championship was a shock, but they have now changed every championship in the last 2 weeks, except for the Global Champion. I'm counting the Tag Championship as having changed since they are going with this angle of Morgan picking a new partner and then beating the crap out of them, thereby changing who the second tag champ is each time. I suppose one way to try and draw ratings is by making new champions. I actually don't mind RVD having won the title with little to no build-up. I thought they were going to go with a Hardy/ RVD Tag Team Champions phase, so I was shocked when they announced RVD vs. Hardy with the winner getting a TNA Championship shot that same night. I do believe RVD is now 11-0 in matches on TNA. He may get the crap beat out of him before or after, but he has answered the call in every match. I do think a Styles/ RVD feud will actually be better with Styles trying to regain his championship than RVD being the challenger.

I'm glad to see Samoa Joe back in action and back to his old self. My theory behind the entire kidnap sequence is exactly what someone said a few weeks ago- the nation of violence kidnapped him and reprogrammed him into his old self- the self before Taz ever interfered and before he joined the MEM. Hopefully the angle is over with and Joe will be the champ again within a year. The old Joe that came back last night is what drew people to TNA, along with the old Styles (before this entire Ric Flair gimmick) and Daniels. Having those three reunite would do wonders for TNA, though I suppose they won't recognize it until it's too late.

Yes, TNA strip these bimbos and strip them well to our long awaited desires

Anyways awesome iMPACT. I missed the first 20 minutes because I thought TNA was still starting at 9/8 central, but it looks like I didn't miss anything except some talking

Knockout tag was ok I guess didn't expect much.

RVD vs Jeff Hardy was awesome and a good choice leading to the second hour. Its a shame they wasted this match on television, it could have been used on a ppv.

Team Hogan vs Team Flair was decent. Still I wish Desmond Wolfe can win a match, and for Sting to say why he turned heel, its long over due for him to explain why. Atleast the old cool Joe is back. As long as they have him as a tweener I would be very happy.

RVD vs AJ Styles was good. I was suprised RVD won. I was kinda hoping for a build and stuff but you know, I don't really mind this title change.
