Eh, why not? It's the only good product NBC is putting out right now, so might as well go with what works...

I still think they should've done "Law and Order: SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDWEST"...

Come on Law and Order: Las Vegas!

Oh, wait... NBC already had a Las Vegas show.

NBC's Thursday night comedies (and Chuck) are the good things about NBC. Law and Order is a dinosaur. Last I heard they were actually thinking of cancelling the original L&O. But they must not have any more ideas.

The irony being that of the actors in that title graphic, one is deceased, two have left the show, and Sam Waterston is really showing his age.

Well, it's starting to become clear that the only reasons they're keeping the original is for records and to keep Dick Wolf happy. Since it passes Gunsmoke next season, that may well be the last season of the original, though some think it may continue on USA afterward like Criminal Intent did.

Apparently, 'Law & Order' is to NBC what 'CSI' is to CBS. A successful crime series that can easily have as many spinoffs as it can get because god forbid these two networks come up with something new, and original.

I know, I mean could they really not find a more recent cast shot then that one.

As to the new series, this 6th spinoff for the Law & Order franchise, after the last two(Trial by Jury and Conviction) both failed to capture audiences. I'm kinda interested to see what other than being in a totally different city will be different about this series.
Who knows what is really real..... that's the true question in life.

Remember, everyone. Los Angeles and New York are the only cities that matter. Yes, we can throw in Miami and Las Vegas every once in a while, but all the rest of that land in between is just filled with farms and churches.

IIRC one of the main reasons NBC bought Universal was so they didn't have to keep spending money to renew Law & Order.

I still find it depressing that if CBS has decided to pick up the show in '88 we would have stopped talking about it 10 years ago probably.

Since "CSI" and "Law and Order" won't tackle anything other than the east or west coast, I kinda hope someone will do a remake of "In the Heat of the Night". I think the network's reasoning is that you can do stories about many different cultures if you have the plot set near the coast, but "Heat of the Night" did just fine, as I recall (even if a large percentage of the episodes focused on race relations).

Hell, at this point I'd settle for a "Law and Order" or "CSI" style show set in New Orleans (it's the coast, but hey, it's the gulf coast)...

I should've clarified: "Law and Order" is the only good drama; I wasn't really speaking about comedies...not that I really think NBC has any good comedies. Oh, and I consider "Chuck" a comedy as well. Every time I try to watch that show, they're yucking it up. Every time I see a commercial for that show, they're playing up a comedy angle.

And "Heroes" is dead to me, so yeah..."Law and Order" (in all it's incarnations) is the only good thing about NBC.

Sounds neat. While I don't religiously watch the franchise, catching the odd episode here and there is fun. I agree a Mid-West L&O would be awesome, though. Or...dare I suggest a PNW L&O?

You know, when it was still in development, the third CSI was actually looking at New Orleans. It basically came down to a tie between there and New York, but they ultimately went with NY.

And in regards to L.A. and NY always being a setting, I agree, a change of scenery would be nice. I've read that the Criminal Minds spin-off this Fall will be set in San Francisco.

Well, there was K-Ville from a couple of years ago which was more cop show than detective show, but sadly it didn't make it past the first season.

I'm still shocked they haven't set one in Chicago. If there's a city ripe for a cop show it's here.

I'd be interested in a crime drama where they solved crimes other than murder and rape

Only two good things on NBC is the NBC News with Brian Williams and Sunday Night Football. As the Winter Games gave the network a boost a bit.
But Law & Order the original is trying to beat the record of Gunsmoke as both are tied at twenty seasons. After the 21st season, the original will be cancelled as they want to beat that record it seems really badly.

Law and Order always puts out a quality show and I watched it for many years, but personally I got bored with it way back in the 90’s.
On the other hand , or network, the CSI shows left me flat from day one.
Yet somehow they manage to add consonants and the occasional vowel to their title and clone a new one off.

I may be a bit off topic here, so I'll just use this spoiler thing for those not interested.
    Spoiler:

I’m always on the look-out for a good cop show.
A while back NBC had a fairly good cop show with a stupid name like “Life” that stared that one guy from Band of Brothers.” Sort of got a second season I think.
Other then that ABC has been coming up with the better new shows in this genera.
“Life on Mars” was probably my favorite cop show since “NYPD Blue” and probably would have been even better if they could have pushed down the Sci-Fi aspect a little more.
And “Castle” is a pretty good show. I can see how it runs the danger of being too cute for some people, but I find it likeable.
And they have some sort of backwater mystery series coming up that could be o.k.

When I see how NBC goes for yet another knock-off, it looks like network is truly scared to try anything new, unless it's very cheep.
Cheep is at least the second biggest reason Leno went to primetime, and why it was replaced by the likes of the Marriage Ref. Cheep is the reason a reality weight loss show has secured TWO HOURS OF NETWORK PRIME TIME every week and is practically NBC’s flagship show.
So why don’t they make a show in a unique local? Maybe it costs too much in their book.

Sorry to go off on a bit of a rant.

To end on a light note, if this was “Law and Order: Detroit Rock City starring KISS” it could be the most awesome show ever.

I guess they're not interested in surpassing 'The Simpsons' since it's already got 21 seasons under it's belt.

That wouldn't work, because every episode would end halfway through the "Order" portion with the judge or another high official taking a bribe and letting the criminal off the hook.

The record is for longest-running scripted drama series, so The Simpsons isn't a factor.
