I'd say, even sadder than that is when JCP was bought by turner. From then on, it was a string of some very incompetent people, with the exception of Watts, in charge

Well as great a title as "The Worst saddest thing in Wrestling thread" was, I think I came up with something better (grammatically).

except that bill was behind guys like JYD and Ron Simmons. He only cared about green. He was hated by a lot of people but that doesn't prove anything. It was those higher ups that caused it's downfall with overinflated contracts and employing non-wrestling people. You have no idea other than second hand accounts about the type of person Watts is.
I know that it would have died, but it's still worse than vince buying WCW.

Yes, but away from the business, he's said A LOT of racist things and one of them is what got him fired from WCW. It ticked off Hank Aaron. Mark Madden brought it up and asked Watts to explain himself and he wouldn't. To this day, Madden takes all credit for getting Watts out of there.
To get this back on topic though...
easily, the Benoit tragedy. That changed pro wrestling in my eyes forever, and haven't voluntarily watched a single Raw or Smackdown, or TNA Impact since.

Madden's a moron and his opinion amounts to nothing because he is a nothing in the wrestling business. Good for him for having a successful radio program but the guy isnt funny or entertaining. Watts has defended himself. He defends himself on the Rise and Fall of WCW. He was misquoted. Apparently some guy had a racist policy for his store or restaurant or something and Bill said that he doesn't agree with the person's ideas but he has a right to run his store the way that he wants. Again, you have only second hand accounts. According to him, he didn't get fired. He resigned. He was fed up with the crap he was constantly dealing with and all the backstabbing.
Benoit was a sad incident, but i hardly see how this implicates wrestling beyond the fact that he was a wrestler. Owen's accident, sure. The Benoit murders are a wrestling moment.

The worst moment to me was WCW putting the World Title on David Arquette.
The reason I say this is because I feel that while several things led to WCW's demise, this booking decision was the final nail in it's coffin and many that watched WCW on occasion (or even regularly for that matter) stopped watching it entirely.
I actually thought that prior to that moment, and at the time of the Russo/Bischoff alliance that WCW was improving and felt that Nitro had a chance of eventually beating (or at least being on par with) RAW, provided they continued booking properly.
I actually liked when they put the belt on Booker T and pushed him to main event status which I felt was long overdue. But by the time they did that, it was too late to save WCW. Nothing short of Jesus Christ coming to WCW could have saved it given the overall state it was in.
It's also sad because even though WCW sucked in it's dying days, the wrestling scene overall hasn't been as good ever since. With no true competition, WWE no longer feels the need to put on a great show every week. Hopefully TNA can light a fire under their butts again. Personally, I'm liking TNA more right now and have for the last 3-4 years.
I kind of surprised that nobody has yet mentioned the various tragedies surrounding the Von Erich family.
I'm not familiar with them, but I was going to say that a lot of the stuff mentioned seems pretty trivial compared to really upsetting moments, like the night Owen Hart fell to his death before a live audience, or the shocking Benoit murder/suicide.Originally Posted by TMC1982

The tragedies surrounding the Von Erichs, Owen Hart, and Chris Benoit are all upsetting. But for me the worst (kayfabe) moment can be summed up in two words: Katie Vick. That was so utterly wrong that I got disgusted all over again when DX referenced it a few weeks back. That was the only time in my whole life that I was ever ashamed to be a fan.

when we say worst moment in pro wrestling, do we mean on an actual show or just anything that happens to someone associated with wrestling.
The AOL/Time Warner Merger may actually be worse for WCW than the selling to just Turner.

Most upsetting? For me it would probably be something that was scripted to happen but ticked me off anyway like a wrestling losing a match or his title, but the more controversial was probably the Montreal Screwjob. Either way, lot's of controversial and upsetting things have happened in wrestling history, it's what makes it uniqe in many ways.
