It seems like nobody knows anything about what's going on with Retaliation and nobody's talking. RZA was at SDCC promoting "The Man With The Iron Fists" starring Russell Crow, Lucy Liu, and Pam Grier and didn't mention GI Joe at all. Nor did anybody on G4 ask . I thought for sure Blair Butler would've snuck in a Joe question.

Here's one of the many Retaliation posters.

Let's do a quick anatomy of it. Roadblock has a full body shot as the lead character. Cobra Commander is the next largest image, on top of everyone else as the villian but also in the background. It could be anybody in that mask, though, and if he weren't there this could be the poster for any generic action movie. Bruce Willis has the next largest image befitting his status as the biggest star in the movie. Lee Byung-Hun is placed above everyone else- though not as big as The Rock or Bruce Willis- he's a big deal in Korea- which is why he's unmasked as Storm Shadow. Under The Rock's arm pit is Snake Eyes- without him here there'd be no way to tell that this was a GI Joe movie. Finally, there's Lady Jaye- she's only there because this flick needs chicks.

    Who's not on this poster?

    Channing Tatum (big mistake)
    Flint
    Jinx

Honestly with the direction of this movie did you expect them to be? I went to Walmart and saw the movie toys. The backs of all the boxes say that GI Joe is led by "ultimate ninja commando Roadblock"!?!?!?! You can't be too surprised that this movie didn't test well. The GI Joe movie website now says Retaliation with Channing Tatum's name first ABOVE everyone else "WITH" Bruce Willis "AND" The Rock.

    http://www.gijoemovie.com/

The test audience was expecting this.

    Spoiler:

But instead got this, which apparently nobody wants.

    Spoiler:

Why will the reshoots take 9 months? Because now Retaliation has to get in line behind all of Chan Tate's other projects.

He's not stopping either: Tatum will see "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" (originally set for release this summer), "The Bitter Pill" (another Steven Soderbergh film, after "Magic Mike" and "Haywire") and "White House Down" (with Jamie Foxx playing the president) all potentially in theaters next year. He's also set to star in "Foxcatcher" for director Bennett Miller, a drama that would cast Tatum opposite Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo, and "Jupiter Ascending," for the Wachowski siblings.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1666571.html

Plus he's in talks to play famed '70s motorcycle stuntman Evel Kneivel in his bio pic.

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ic-sony-347142

And thats not even counting that I just saw his wife on E! News talking about another movie they're in together called "10 Years" with Rosario Dawson.

He's Michael Fassbender levels of BUSY! He's Emma Stone levels of POPULAR!

But thats not the real reason I came here. This IS!!! The greatest GI Joe custom figure EVER!!!

    Spoiler:

"The Law says that you can not touch............"

"..........but I think I see a lot of law breakers up in this house. And not a cop in sight!"

Ladies put your hands together and your singles in the air for Magic Duke!!!!

    Ginuwine's "Pony" starts playing.

    More pictures here.

Look, I get you're a Channing Tatum fan, but dial it back. There are probably many, many, many more problems than that. They would not push a movie back this far for him. And no one said the reshoots would take nine months. The reshoots may be done already and they need a lot of post. Maybe Paramount pushed it back so far so it could have no competition at all. It's just a really bad movie and they need to fix it. And to be honest, I don't see what all of these links on Tatum have to do with GI Joe Retaliation.

A new trailer was released to Yahoo. There's new stuff in there, but old chunks as well. I do miss the Seven Nation Army remix. Not a fan of the rap they're using.
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

Yeah, this song was a pretty poor choice for the trailer. It's probably not a bad song but there's something kind of happy about the beat and it feels out of place. Not as bad as the use of Jay-Z in the SuperBowl spot though. That felt really cheezy. The Seven Nation Army remix really helped make that first trailer and I wish they'd chosen another song that felt as hard-hitting for this trailer.

The trailer was okay. Nothing special, though, and the plot seems generic so far.

Retaliation will be released in IMAX 3D.

I guess they're hoping to make more money, but this could backfire, since no one seems to care about this film anymore.

With only a month to go, we got we trailers/tv spots/etc. out of the wazoo. Will be posting a few.

    A Storm Shadow Featurette

A clip with Colton and Roadblock

And finally, a new Cobra Recruit video:

These Cobra Recruit videos look pretty neat. I wonder how many they'll do in all.

There's more videos, but I decided to stick to the ones that have mostly new stuff.

From the TV spots and the new clips it looks like Storm Shadow joins GI JOE halfway-through or near the end.

A bunch of character based featurettes have been posted. Here they are:

    Duke

    Lady Jaye

    Flint

    Firefly

    Snake-Eyes

    Storm-Shadow

    Jinx

    Joe Colton

    Roadblock

And the character I'm looking forward to the most, Cobra Commander!

And we still don't know what Cobra Commander sounds like. Unless that mysterious voice at the beginning of Firefly's featurette is his.

Well, I guess Hasbro is finally marketing this. A bit late, though...

I don't know anyone who even cares about this film. I'll be surprised if it does above average at the box office.

We have a new Cobra Special Forces Spot. In which we learn two things: who was ever in charge of the maps apparently failed Geography (unless there's something they're not showing that explains things), and we now know what Cobra Commander sounds like.

That separating cycle on the trailer sort of looks like Carter's Trans-Armor cycle from Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue.
Not it will most likely do any good, but I encourage any interested parties to sign this petition.

Yeah, how is that even a review? AICN has a better review, as did coming soon. Either way, this movie is going to be down right awful. Sure, it will be better than Rise, but even the Transformers movies are better than Rise, so that isn't saying much.

I'm seeing it Tuesday, but seeing it for free so can't complain too much.

I still find it amusing that no one in the production at all mentions how the plot for this is identical to GI JOE: Renegades. Not only that, the Cobra PSA gimmicks were also directly lifted from Renegades as well. Just saying, give credit to where credit is due.

Lucky you. The fact that I paid for an advance show with those annoyingly tight IMAX 3D glasses put me in a grumpy mood at the start. All advance showings, particularly the midnight screenings, should be in 2D.
What did I think of it? The stuff with the Cobra goons and Snake-Eyes is pretty swell, everything else I give a hearty 'meh'. Silly, but it's a movie based on toys after all. At least it actually felt like a JOE movie this time. Also, the prison scene with Walter Goggins is cringe-worthy.

I like Walt Goggins but he was so out of place in that scene. Why cast Walt Goggins in such a pointless window-dressing role? You could've cast him I dunno as like Shipwreck or Beach Head or a character like that.

Flint has nothing to do in this movie either.

    Really positive review here.
Newsarama.com : G.I. JOE RETALIATION: Legitimately Awesome Action Flick

The reviewer says there are some huge plot holes and WTF moments but the action scenes are spectacular with a decent story this time around.

I think calling it "legitimately awesome" is a bit too excessive, but whatev's.

Like Die Hard would be a legitimately awesome action movie.
