AVATAR vs. Delgo... But There Was Another...

    Like This Thread!
    Here's the lawsuit.

BUT... what I'm wondering about is some other film I can't remember. I thought Delgo was it, but there's some other film that's CGI where Earth military goes to a fantastical planet and like.... they need to stop war.

Everything I saw about it reminded me of what I've been hearing about Avatar.

Can anyone remember what that movie was?

I think you're thinking of Battle for Terra. And no, I see little to know similarity between Delgo and Avatar.

Cameron did his first draft of Avatar in 1994. The judge is gonna laugh at this lawsuit.

There's a few websites out there that have about 8 still images of both films side by side, and they do indeed look like replicas of one another.

I smell a stinker in Avatar, the film cost $280 to produce..It'll probably gross $160 domestically. The trailers have been met with far too much negativity for it to be a rip roaring success. And if your film costs $20 million short of 300 million to produce, the marketing budget is going to put it at $500 million. We might be looking at one of the biggest bombs in history.

My hopes are also not high for this movie. I do hear tho that what we saw in video should NOT reflect what the actual film experience is going to be like tho.

While my expectations are remarkably low, I can't deny curiosity will have me there opening weekend.

Too bad the 15-minute IMAX preview had a different response.

What you don't understand though is that even if the movie itself is better than the trailer, people are going to judge it based alone on the trailer and go "No thanks", that's what the general mood seemed to be when the trailer played before Inglourious Basterds in a packed theater. Some people were even snickering at the trailer, pretty bad indeed.

While it probably will open huge, I can't see it grossing more than $280 million, there's just no way, that trailer just doesn't get people pumped for this film. Also the marketing budget is going to put the total cost of the film at $500-600 million.

To be fair, I think that was more of a teaser, with a full theatrical trailer that will give a better idea of the film's story still to come. But at this point, I'm not entirely sold on it yet. I certainly don't see myself rushing out to see it right now.

Movies that Avatar resembles. I think Cameron should be sweating, as these possible lawsuits could be annoying. Hey, maybe these movies copied Avatar, the script was online! . But for those that Avatar will bomb, read this article. You have to remember the movie is NOT at all like the trailer. Contrary to popular belief, I believe Avatar will be a massive success. I looked at the trailer in HD, and I think this trailer is underrated. Sure some of the CGI was odd (the avatars are not too impressive) some scenes actually look photorealistic. I can't wait for Avatar. And don't forget how sure Cameron is that this movie will be huge. Guys, let me remind you, this is JAMES CAMERON. Aliens, Titanic, The Terminator, T2, etc. These are classics. Don't worry.

James Cameron is like any other director, just because he's had a good track record so far doesn't mean he's incapable of directing a bad movie. Scorcese and Spielberg have had their fair shares of slip ups, Cameron is no different and to be fair Cameron hasn't made that many movies in his career which might account to why he hasn't made a crappy one yet. (Some will say Titanic was his low point directing, though it's mostly genre fans upset Titanic wasn't like Terminator or Aliens who bash it)
I'm not trying to write Avatar off so quickly, but the general public doesn't seem to be as amazed by it as the internet community is. And the internet doesn't always translate to box office success (Snakes on a Plane)

Okay, but I highly doubt this will be a flop. Wait until the full trailer comes.

LOL, they're clearly just trying to get attention. The movie had the worst opening in BO history, and they're just trying to use bad press to get people to look into their crappy CGI.

Yeah, James cameron clearly wanted to copy a bigger-than-pluto-nash flop for his 10+ years in the making blockbuster. Yeah, that's it. What idiots.

Personally, the CGI in Revenge of the Sith looks better than what I've seen out of Avatar so far.

Avatar at least needs to beat ROTS in order to have any kind of merit to its claims, and I have yet to see that yet.

This might be Cameron's Pluto Nash, it just seems way too far out for the general public to go gaga for.
