"WWE Extreme Rules" 2009 Prediction Thread

    Like This Thread!
This Sunday, the WWE goes Extreme. Make your picks for Extreme Rules now. Remember that under any rules your picks must be made by Sunday at 8 p.m. ET and they cannot be edited after that time.

Extreme Rules has eight scheduled matches, so everyone's total will be out of eight. If you refuse to pick on principle, Kippy has no clue who you want, or you just plain miss it, you will get it wrong.

WWE Championship - Steel Cage Match
    Champion Randy Orton vs. Batista

World Heavyweight Championship - Ladder Match
    Champion Edge vs. Jeff Hardy

ECW Championship - Triple Threat Hardcore Rules Match
Champion Christian vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger

    Submission Match
    John Cena vs. Big Show

Intercontinental Championship - No Holds Barred
Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho

United States Championship - Fatal Four Way Match
Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Montel Vontavious Porter vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy

    Samoan Strap Match
    CM Punk vs. Umaga

    Hog Pen Match
    Santina Marella vs. Vickie Guerrero

Please remember this thread encompasses anything to do with predictions. Should you feel the need to tally up your score, "challenge" people, or tell the story of the "match for the championship" that is going to fit in here, not the talkback thread for the event which will of course be posted Sunday.

    Raw division matches:

WWE title: Orton over Batista. I'd rather not see Legacy get involved, but it's inevitable. Orton will hold the title until, say, Summerslam, when Hunter returns to reclaim the gold.

US title: Kingston over Regal, Porter, & M. Hardy. Can't see Kofi as a transitional champion.

Submission match: Big Show over John Cena. Can't see it as a pure tapout. More like a knockout.

Hogpen match: Santina Marella over Vicki Guerrero. Vicki can't do crap, so it's fitting she rolls in it. It's time they realize that she is bombing in front of a live audience and cut the cord on her GM run.

ECW title: Jack Swagger over Tommy Dreamer & Christian. Personally, as I said in the ECW thread, I'd rather see Dreamer win and retire as champ to set up a tournament, but that isn't in the cards. Dreamer takes a month or two off, then replaces Tiffany as GM.

World title: Edge over J. Hardy. Not a good night for the Hardys. Jeff is supposedly taking a break either at the end of this month or after Summerslam (like he's gone for good? I don't think so), so it's not time for him to be champ again just yet.

Samoan Strap match: CM Punk over Umaga. Can't see Punk losing 2 PPV matches to Umi in a row.

IC title: Rey Mysterio over Chris Jericho. This will probably be the best match on the show. Jericho doesn't need the IC title, and should be pointed toward Edge and the World title.

    1. RANDY ORTON retains, and defeats the caged animal.

    2. EDGE retains. and will make sure Jeff Hardy won't be climbing the LADDER!

    3. Hmmm a tough one. I'll go with CHRISTIAN retaining.

    4. Naturally JOHN CENA will win.

    5. I'll go with JERICHO becoming the new Intercontinental champion.

    6. KOFI retains.

    7. Another tough one. I'll go with CM PUNK.

    8. This looks to be a stinker of a match, definately no pun intended. I'll go with SANTINA though.
Grampa: I say we call Matlock. He'll find the culprit. It's probably that evil Gavin MacLeod or George "Goober" Lindsay.

    Bart: Grampa, Matlock's not real.

Grampa: Neither are my teeth, but I can still eat corn on the cob, if someone cuts it off and smushes it into a fine paste. Now that's good eatin'!

WWE Championship - Steel Cage Match
    Champion Randy Orton vs. Batista

As I've said before, this Orton-Batista (also featuring Ric Flair) feud seems to be the middle act of the eventual Triple H return, so I couldn't see Randy Orton losing this match. Who knows what the finish will be, but I hope it's interesting. The Raw main event matches seem to almost need interesting run-ins/angles to help the matches as of late. (I know Edge/Cena and Edge/Jeff had run-ins too but with those, it didn't seem like the matches hinged on the quality of the finish, whereas the last two Rain main events, that has seemed like the case.)

World Heavyweight Championship - Ladder Match
    Champion Edge vs. Jeff Hardy

Edge should retain. Extreme Rules should be another PPV in the attempt to make the world title reigns seem significant. I wouldn't be surprised to see Matt Hardy make another appearance here as well, though hopefully it would be about as inconsequental as Matt's run-in was at Judgment Day.

ECW Championship - Triple Threat Hardcore Rules Match
Champion Christian vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger

I'd say Christian retains, though I could see it going to any of the three. Hopefully Dreamer adds something interesting to Christian vs Swagger, as we've already seen Christian vs Swagger a lot of times.

    Submission Match
    John Cena vs. Big Show

John Cena overcomes the odds and wins again. The stipulation really sells me on it. Cena actually submitting would be pretty soulcrushing, and I'm picking the two heel world champions to retain at the PPV, so go with a babyface victory here.

Intercontinental Championship - No Holds Barred
Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho

I'm the most in the dark about this match's outcome. I'm hoping, for the sake of having a longer feud, Chris Jericho wins the Intercontinental Championship but fails to take off Rey's mask completely, which could lead to a title vs mask rematch. I don't think having a long IC title reign is as important in the grand scheme of things as the other belts, and I'd rather see this belt make the feud longer. Here's hoping these guys steal the show like they did at Judgment Day.

United States Championship - Fatal Four Way Match
Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Montel Vontavious Porter vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy

This is also a puzzler, but I'm willing to think this was added so late because they had room (like Morrison vs Benjamin was at Judgment Day), so I'd doubt we'd see another title change so quickly. Should be a stellar, exciting match if it gets time. I'd think Kofi Kingston would get another huge win here, perhaps pinning Regal this time.

    Samoan Strap Match
    CM Punk vs. Umaga

Like I said in the Smackdown thread, Punk winning on Friday (and adding another big TV win to his 2009 resume) makes me think Extreme Rules has another Punk loss in the cards. I'm not in favor of it, but Umaga taking Punk around to all four corners would not surprise me.

    Hog Pen Match
    Santina Marella vs. Vickie Guerrero

Santina Marella in what is hopefully very short. Also Vickie will have the crowd hot no doubt as the fans love to boo her, and her going in the slop should get a big reaction.
"Leaping Lanny and Randy Savage are brothers, and Randy Savage, your name is Randy Poffo. THAT'S RIGHT, RANDY POFFO. You're ashamed of going around calling yourself Poffo so you probably got the name Savage because you're ashamed of putting yourself on the same level as your brother because he is much better than you are. YOUR BROTHER IS A HUMAN BEING. YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A SCUMBAG. THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE; YOU'RE A DOG. YOUR NAME IS POFFO." - Ronnie Garvin to Randy Savage, ICW Wrestling, 1980.

WWE Championship - Steel Cage Match

    Champion Randy Orton vs. Batista

    Randy Orton retains

World Heavyweight Championship - Ladder Match

    Champion Edge vs. Jeff Hardy

Matt Hardy costs his brother the match again and gives Edge the win.

ECW Championship - Triple Threat Hardcore Rules Match

Champion Christian vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger

I see one of two scenarios happening. Either Dreamer uses his element to win or Christan retains and Dreamer shakes his hand setting up an emotional farewell to Dreamer Tuesday night on ECW. I think I'll go with the second.

    Submission Match

    John Cena vs. Big Show

Cena in the Ugh, why do we have this again match of the night.

Intercontinental Championship - No Holds Barred

Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho

If it weren't for Jericho trying to take Rey's mask as well, then I'd probably pick him to win. As it is, I see Rey keeping his mask and the IC Title.

United States Championship - Fatal Four Way Match

Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Montel Vontavious Porter vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy

WWE Mobile reported it first, but I don't see Kofi losing the title he just won on Monday night, so I'm going with Kofi for the win.

    Samoan Strap Match

    CM Punk vs. Umaga

Umaga has had most of the momentum, so Mr. MitB will find a way to win.

    Hog Pen Match

    Santina Marella vs. Vickie Guerrero

Honestly I think Santino will get exposed as Santina in this match and cause Vickie to not only win the match but keep the title, especially with Chavo providing outside interference.

    Analyzing Edge vs Jeff Hardy

Last PPV I talked about how Edge needed to keep Jeff grounded and avoid being caught in any launching air attacks, and now not only does Edge have to do this but he has to go out of his way to keep Hardy away from the ladder where his opponent can both win the match and nail a suicide air manouver. Man o' man this is going to be a tough one for the World's Champion, but I think he may just have what it takes to pull it off but only if he can implement these traits. Jeff seems focused, ever since his oss at JD to Edge he has had a look in his eyes that makes me think "determination", hell, he even picked up a win over Edge on Smackdown a week or so back, so he is capable of pinning the champion. Edge is a competitor through and through, as well as an oppertunist and if Edge see's a small opening to do some damage and win the match then he will take advantage of it. Edge needs to keep his offense flowing and try to implement some moves into his match tommorrow using the ladder that we may not see coming, remember that the element of suprise can be a big factor and I don't think Jeff is expecting Edge to do much in the way of high risk. I feel that Edge is competing at a high level as of late and I just don't see Hardy beating him for the gold, but then again I have been wrong before but this is how I forsee it and I am definatly looking foward to this huge title bout!

Analyzing Chris Jericho vs Rey Mysterio......

This match is a complete wildcard in my book, I think Mysterio has some huge momentum going for him but I also think that Chris Jericho is on a mission and will use his poise and clear head to make decisions in the match that will work in his favor. Jericho has won titles in the past and was once a great champion within the WWF as well as a former ECW TV Champion, he knows what it takes to win and he will put foward an offense that will ensure that. Mysterio on the other hand is quick, electric and prismatic and his flashy ways can either help him or hurt him depending on how smart he is wrestling, I just feel as if he will be outmatched by Chris this time around, possibly Jericho has been studying video of Mysterio in preperation for tommorrow nights bout? Who knows. I still wouldn't be suprised if Rey successfully defended his title either, he has a killer instinct in him that benefits him when he is opposed by a bigger or more experienced opponent, so he could be just fine in his own right. Rey has also done his best to help to boost the prestige of the Intercontinental Championship since winning it at Wrestlemania, so I would hate for him to loose it already, but it all comes down to what happens in the ring and I think Jericho will take the IC Championship belt tommorrow night.
