"Real Time With Bill Maher" Season Seven Talkback

On at a new time, but still the same great show. I loved the bit on Friday's show about the foreclosed cave in Missouri...

His rant on the snuggie and calling P.J. O'Rourke and Gavin Newsome on their laissez-faire Catholicism last Friday wer ace.

Not a very good episode this week. Alan Cumming is a complete non-entity, who had virtually nothing interesting to say, and there just wasn't enough diversity of opinion or edge to the discussion for much of it to be particularly interesting. Newsome and O'Rourke were refreshingly honest about their catholic Stockholm Syndrome, and the Snuggie bit was quite amusing, if only for how Maher really committed to that particular gag, but other than that, I found the whole thing quite dull.

Strange episode this week. I thought the reason for the 2 person panel last week was that someone had pulled out at the last moment, but they stuck with it this week, and then cut their time short to bring out a 1-on-1 with... Sarah Silverman!?! Don't get me wrong, I like Silverman, but she would have been much better used as a 3rd panel member.
The discussion was ok, but the comedy is getting weaker and weaker each... err, week.

Thank god this was only a one week change. This format is terrible. No monologue, just a few rather weak new rules... The Ron Howard interview was awful. Totally apolitical, and it took up, what, 3/5 of a political talk show? Why...? If I wanted to hear generic Hollywood stories, I'd tune in to Access Hollywood or some entertainment show... There was no need to take up over half the program with this crap. The Gore Vidal interview was good, because, I dunno, because I like Gore Vidal a lot. It deserved way more time than the Ron Howard interview...

I didn't even make it to the Vidal interview. A few minutes worth of Howard was all I could muster, and this was on DVR, and I couldn't even be bothered to fast forward past it. The whole show just felt "off". This has been a really odd season. Too many weird changes to the format.
