    NFL 08 "Week 9" Talkback

    Like This Thread!
The undefeated Titans will kick off the action today ("in your region") when they take on the Packers and their re-contracted QB, Aaron Rodgers. The Super Bowl Champion Giants are still tops in the NFC with just one loss and they will host division rival Dallas today. Tonight, AFC rivals New England and Indianapolis will face off. The Patriots have managed to stay on top of their division (tied with Buffalo) without Tom Brady, but the Colts have been struggling all year and are just 3-4.

Since 1940, a Washington Redskins win right before Election Day has meant a Presidential election victory for incumbent party and a loss has meant the challenging party went to the White House. The exception to this rule was in 2004 when they lost and so did Democrat John Kerry. Has the trend been changed forever or will hold true Monday night? That would make Bears fan Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) a Steelers fan and Cardinals fan Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in favor of the Redskins tomorrow. ESPN's Chris Berman will interview both men at half-time of that game.

Carolina, New Orleans, San Diego and San Francisco (in their second week with interim coach Mike Singletary) have the week off.

The Vikings are up 14-7 over the Texans right now. I'm glad to see the Vikings are not playing cautious. They opened the game with a (successful) long bomb to Berrian. They also went for it on fourth-and-one which led to their second touchdown. The Texans had a pick-six off Frerotte but it was more Berrian's fault as he bobbled the pass right into his chest that was intercepted out of the air.

I'm also sort of watching the Buffalo game, losing 13-7 to the Jets but I'm mainly watching the Vikings, of course.

    Go Vikings!

Edit: Nice drive by the Texans stopped; just picked off by Antoine Winfield!!! Winfield is awesome.

Edit2: Vikings got a sack, forcing a fumble; Frerotte to Berrian for a 49-yard touchdown! I'm liking this game!

So, so, so, so, so close. The Packers did just what I thought they would, make this a very close game. Neither team had a 7 point lead on each other. Note: I didn't watch the game on TV becuase I'm in the Bears market. But it looks like Both teams played at 100%. I heard Rodgers one INT was just the worst throw ever. And a sack lead to a fumble, for the only turnovers of the game. But the Titans couldn't finish the Packers off. With a little luck, a missed FG sent this game into overtime. But the Titans got the back and drove. Kind of sucks from my stand point becuase I really wanted to see the Packers upset the Titans (or a day of many upsets). Grant 86yds, that's pretty good against a good run defence team in the titans. And Driver with 136yds is great. Glad to see him getting some attention with Jennings having such a great year.

    Giant 21

    Cowboys 14

    Halftime

The Giants are dominating, but I am little concerned with sloppy job of taking care of the football. And the 7 point Dalles got, I am seriously stating wonder about Burres and weather he is trying to sabotage the team to spite the coach. Eli and Plex has a lot of miscommunication, and when that happens, 90% of the time is the receivers fault. Is Burres intionally running the wrong routes occational to sent the Giants a message?

The Giants absolutely dominated the Cowboys, I didn't think the Cowboys would win, but I didn't think it'd go down like that. Miami wins another one which is cool, but man Denver is really sliding.

    Titans* Lol.

How about dem Cowboys! Yeah... they aren't very good right now. They will be glad to get Romo back, but even then, unless he can play defense too, they need some help. G-Men absolutely dominated them, and Washington's Clinton Portis could do the same.

Actually, if you watched the first half of the game, you would see that Dallas' D was doing a good job. One of the TD's came from an interception, and they forced the Giants into 2 fumbles. When you have your D on the field for 45+ minutes though in a 60 minute game, they are going to get worn out. The return of Romo and Felix Jones at Washington will stabilize the offense in that Witten will once again be involved, and they'll have a 1-2 running punch again. That means the offense will be able to keep the ball longer, meaning the D won't get worn out.

The one down side for the Cowboys is that Clinton Portis has run for nearly 400 yards in his last two meetings against Dallas. If they can't stop him, then they won't win.

Nobody has made much mention of last night, but the Pats/ Colts game was an 18-15 thriller that came down to the end of the game.

It is funny how things change from week to week. Any realistic Cowboy fan should root for the Giants next week against the Eagles.

As a Giant fan, I will root for the Cowboys to beat the Redskins in two weeks.

Why would I root for the Giants to beat the Eagles when the Cowboys own the tiebreaker on the Eagles at this point? A second loss for the Giants means Dallas would only be 2 games out of the division lead instead of tied with the Eagles for last in the division. It wouldn't help out at all in the Wild card hunt when the NF South is playing so well at this point.

The division is over for the Cowboys, they are not going to win that. Their only hope is the wild card, and they own the tie breaker for the Eagles, only more reason to want the Eagles to lose.

Technically the division isn't over for any team in the NFC East. The Giants still have a second meeting with the Eagles and Cowboys. If they were to lose both of those, that'd be two division losses, currently the same amount as Dallas, and that'd be three losses total, only one less than Dallas. What you are being is called optimistic, but you can't say the division is over for anyone when they are 2 1/2 games back with 7 to play- 8 for most teams. You can never predict what will haooen. Dallas is struggling because of multiple injuries. They get back many of those players the week after the bye. Who's to say Eli won't go down? The Giants don't really have a reliable back-up and would struggle like Dallas has. Everyone has seen how inconsistent Washington and Philadelphia are. You can't rule anyone out in the NFC East until at least week 13.

A great night for Barok Obama and the New York Giants. Two games ahead of everybody in the division, the Giants are in great shape to win the divison, and have a good playoff seed.

Thanks for nothing, Redskins. Now the Ravens will have to continue playing catch up.

well, it's a bittersweet day at least. Obama's grandmother passed away...on the eve of the election.

It was a VERY GOOD Sunday for me.
    Vikes beat the Texans 28-21.
The Kick and Punt Coverage teams didn't suck for once.
    No Long Returns.
AP had a 139 yards rushing.

Cowboys got STOMP by the G-Men. YAY!!!
Best part about the 'Boys having a Bye week, is that I am stuck having to watch their game.
Of course when they are winning I turn the TV off and listen to Sirius for another Game that is playing.

Here is something Funny. Raiders only had 10 yards passing. HAHAHAHA!!!
I HATE the Raiders as much as HATE the Cowboys.

As I said a GREAT DAY for me. YAY!!!
