"Desperate Housewives" Season Five Talkback (Spoilers)
At the end of last season's final episode, life on Wisteria Lane jumped ahead five years. We saw Gaby with two chubby daughters, Bree running a homemaking empire with Andrew at her side and Orson in the house, Lynette reacting to one of her teenage twins being arrested, Katherine getting a message from a newly-engaged Dylan and Susan coming home to another man! What are the Housewives up to now? How did we get here? We'll find out in the season to come starting tonight at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

The season premiere hasn't happened yet, and I already miss the Scavo kids. Porter, Preston, and Parker had this serious innocence about them, despite their antics that the new kids (at least the new twins) won't be able to bring. I saw a pic of the new Scavo family and... damn. The twins really shot up over five years, yet Parker (the youngest one) seems to still be the same size.
I heard that the actress playing Julie was let go, which makes no sense because Andrew's still being played by the same guy.
We're supposed to be getting flashbacks to tell us how we got to the five year mark, so this should definately be interesting.

The title was accurate "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow" perfectly sums up this episode. 5 years later and this show is back to true form:
Susan: Not much of a mystery here... yet. The how and why of her and Mike no longer being together was solved pretty quickly. Did anyone else think that Mike was a ghost or something when Susan saw him at the end of the episode? I sure did before the big reveal. Big LOL at Bob & Lee's quick scene watching the painter walking through the yard.
Lynette: Glad to see McClusky's still around. Wow, the twins are true troublemakers now. Glad to see Tom's finally starting to grow a pair and starting to discipline them, although I was actually expecting the boys, not Tom, to damage the car.
Gabby: Carlos looks the most aged of any of the characters on Wisteria Lane. I feel sorry for Gabby and the girls. Sadly there are parents out there who are just like that, only they don't see the danger until it's far too late.
Bree: The twist with baby Benjamin I DID NOT see coming. I thought for sure him and Maynard would be partners in crime as time went on. So basically her business is the substitute for what happened there apparently. I get that Danielle wanted the baby back, but that was horribly cold.
Edie: "I've got a husband." "Really? Whose?"
So Edie's hubby is out of the looney bin and is out to get someone on Wisteria Lane. I kind of want to say that he's the husband of the woman who died in that car crash, and now he wants Mike to pay, but that'd be way too obvious. But then again, the core housewives didn't recognize him or his name, so that might let those four off the hook. That leaves Catherine, the husbands, and stretching things, Andrew, who hasn't had a good s/l since season 2.
Welcome back to Wisteria Lane. Let's hope this season is as good as season 4.

Season 4 was not that good. Let's hope this one's better.
(longer review to follow...eventually)
-
I thought S4, despite losing 5 episodes due to the strike, was a step up from S3, whose only major flaw was the lack of Bree for a good chunk of that season.

"You're Gonna Love Tomorrow"
The situation I found the most shocking at the end of last season was Susan with another man, so that was what I most wanted to find out. Mike leaving her because he couldn't take her obsessing was not what I expected. That was a great play towards the end of the episode where they implied he could be a ghost.
Gaby is certainly the most changed both in look and I would say current life as well. Not sure how I feel about this whole story yet since it's still getting going. That was a lot of cake though!! Did you notice that her name is Juanita? Same as Carlos' madre.
I don't know that I'm actually surprised, but I'm surprised Bree pretty much turned on Katherine to build her homemaking empire. They seemed like they were really getting along when they started out together.
Lynette meddles a bit too much sometimes, but I can always count on the Scavos to have realistic problems and confront them as a family. I love that about them. I never knew which twin was which before, so I hope it will become clear now that they are 16. The article someone else mentioned make me think that Porter is the one with the hat, but I don't know if that's right. Tom yelling at the boys after they came back late was a very powerful moment.

That was great! Dave obviously has some dangerous things going on up there. I'll be interested to learn what they are.

was a step up from S3, whose only major flaw was the lack of Bree for a good chunk of that season.
I suppose that's true in a way. It would be easy to say that Bree's absense hurt the show at the end of S3, but in truth, it was the writing. Edie didn't have to become such a total monster but the writers chose to have her manipulate Carlos and fake her own death, only to then put the moves on Orson. I mean she could fall into a volcano and I wouldn't care. They just did nothing interesting with her at the end of Season Three, which is just too bad.
If they'd written her better, OR introduced Katherine a little earlier perhaps, I don't think you'd be thinking of season four so highly. That tornado? The cancer? So awful.
-
I agree, the cancer storyline just came from out of nowhere, then just... sat there after the initial telling everyone about it. They could have done so much more with it, but didn't.
But I liked the tornado storyline, and it made for a great cliffhanger during the winter break. Tom and Lynette are the heart of Wisteria Lane with the strongest relationship, so to have something so horrible happen to Tom & the kids...
Edie? Yeah, everytime you start to feel a *little* sorry for her, she goes full on back into beeyotch mode. It happens pretty much every season now, and I doubt this season will be any better for her.
As for introducing Catherine earlier, I think the failed experiment of Alfre Woodard during Season 2 was like a test version of Catherine. Had Alfre's character gotten a better storyline that actually involved all the housewives as opposed to just Bree, it might have been her sitting at the card table with the ladies for the last three seasons.

I actually really liked Alfre's storyline. I only started watching near the end of season two, and from what I saw, yes, her character stayed pretty isolated from the others until Danielle began dating her son, but there was room for growth there.
Anyways, the way they wrapped it up, there wasn't much chance of a return, but Alfre's such a great actress keeping her around would have been wise.
All this to say, Catherine returning to Wisteria in Bree's absence could have worked. OR they could have introduced the gay couple sooner. OR they could have done more with the whole idea of Edie fearing her mother's predictions coming true. But I guess every show-running has bad moments too. Season Three's ending was one of them, and most of season four was just a string of them. None of the characters were likeable.
-
It's petty, but I can't take it. It's is Katherine with a 'K' everyone, not a 'C'. Katherine Mayfair.

Katherine Mayfair.
Lol, sorry. But I totally agree, bringing Katherine in during Bree's absence would have been brilliant, especially when Bree came back and found someone just like her living on the block.
There have been a lot of missed opportunities with this show, but that's what the Good Lord made fanfiction for.
But I think we should agree to disagree. I still loved S4 over 2 and 3, although every season's had episodes ranging from poor to excellent.

But wasn't BANG quite possibly the best episode of the series? I think it was. WOW.
If we get something that good this year, I'll be happy. Personally, the arc I was most invested in as far as the show (as I've seen it) is concerned, is the Orson/Mommy/Bree arc, followed by the Bree/Andrew/Bree's a failed mother arc.
Pengy, are you a die-hard Housewifer? You must be if you care about Katherine being written with a K. It's okay if you are. I'm just asking. I mean, it seems like you would be. Hm? Hm? *pokes annoyingly* I'll bet you can identify all of Lynette's kids, can't you...you're just pretending you can't. *smirks*

Well I do watch the show every week and I'm overall serious about my TV. I don't own the DH DVDs or anything though. And Preston and Porter are the twins, Parker is the other boy (something else I've had to point out before, every once and a while, someone says Parker is one of the twins) and Penny is the girl.
I've never been able to tell which twin is which though. I'm hoping that will be easier in the coming week.
-
Well, the twins are supposed to be getting diverse personalities this season. If the spoilers I've read are true, then
And yes, BANG was one of the best episodes of the whole series. To this day I'm still po'd that Felicity Huffman didn't get an Emmy for that particular episode.

"We're So Happy You're So Happy" October 5, 2008
It appears Edie's new husband Dave Williams has come to Wisteria Lane to take revenge on one of the residents, who is he looking for?

Lynette discovers her son, Porter, has a softer side, which she finds endearing and the time has come for the men in Susan's life to meet.
-
"Could this be more awkward?"
"... Your robe's open."
Well, at least we know that Mike and Susan are still on reasonably good terms, although that toe thing... too much info, Susan. WAY too much info.
It was like a Looney Tunes cartoon with Gaby at the party, everytime opening the door and finding the situation was getting worse, lol. I'm kind of curious on one thing, though. Last thing, Gabby and Carlos came into a rather... LARGE sum of money courtesy of their drug dealer tenant. Did they blow through that money in just five years?
I hope this doesn't spell the end for Mrs. McClusky if she gets too close to what Dave's planning. But it'll be nice to see her and Katherine getting some interaction. I hope Dave doesn't pull a Paul Young on her.
Speaking of which, I'd really love to see what him, Zack, and ESPECIALLY Ms. Tillman are up to five years into the future.
Poor Porter, finding out the girl he had a crush on was his mother.
And I'm glad they're trying to give the twins individual personalities now. Is it just me, or does the new Parker NOT resemble the last kid? At least the new twins look like the former pair.
So, Orson did do time for running Mike over. And it looks like Bree's personal life and business life are colliding, and not in a good way. I felt bad for Orson, right up until those last few seconds. It seems like they're both emotionally disconnected. And I REALLY want to know how Andrew went from pizza boy to Bree's golden boy. He just seems a little too... perfect.

"We're So Happy You're So Happy"
Lynette is such a terrible meddler even if her heart is in the right place. I like when Tom is able to be the voice of reason and that was certainly the case here. Lynette probably isn’t the first parent to create a social network profile, but she obviously took it too far. I too am very excited to see Preston and Porter develop individual personalities and tonight really kicked that off. It tugged at the heart strings a little bit when Lynette said that she was sorry and would miss their conversations and then Porter whispered “Me too” after she was gone.
I liked seeing Mike and Jackson getting along (much to Susan’s chagrin). After we watched the flashback of Mike & Susan fighting, I’m happy to see they more or less get along which is of course good for M.J. as well. I however don’t see Jackson hanging out with Karl.
It was rather funny watching Gaby open and close the door to see things getting worse for Carlos out at the table. Carlos has always been the more sensible of the two and I really liked his speech about how none of the rich people are happy and this is the happiest he has been.
This is who we thought Orson was when he first arrived on Wisteria Lane. I remember after a while I commented almost weekly about how he had gotten so nice and caring that it was hard to believe he had hit Mike with his car and now after being in prison and feeling like his wife is leaving him behind, it seems the more negative traits of Orson Hodge are coming back out.
Karen McClusky had better be careful around Dave. She figured out just as easily as the viewer at home that Dave had cat-napped Toby in order to get her to apologize. He really want to make sure that his wife doesn’t want to move. I’m anxious to find out what this person did to him or what he perceives them as having done to him.
“But if you’re not sure the man next door is as nice as he would have you believe… Do everything you can to get to know him better.”

I remember Ellie came back for the money and then they fought over it, but the recaps I can find easily don’t address who ended up with the cash. If the Solises still had it, I guess that is one of the questions we are awaiting in a flashback.

I would be surprised if they killed her. Kathryn Joosten wins the guest star Emmy every year now, but of course she was great on The West Wing and she was cut from that for dramatic purposes. This is a very minor spoiler (mostly just casting news), but I’ll tag it anyway…

I dunno, the picture of Parker in Entertainment Weekly has at least a different hairstyle than we saw in the episode last night, but it is the same actor Joshua Moore, mentioned (and pictured) in the article. I don’t think we got a good enough look at him for me to comment on how the older version compares with the original one. As an interesting side note, all three of the new Scavo boys had to die their hair to match their younger counterparts. The twins actually have brown hair and Parker is really a blond.

I thought the Solises still had it, considering that Ellie had been shot been and killed in Katherine's kitchen by Wayne when she was trying to escape. If I remembered right, Gabby was holding the bag of money when Ellie ran off, unless the police took it as evidence.
Huh. Didn't know that particular guest star was coming, but I'm a big fan of hers, so that'll be fun.

I'm totally avoiding spoilers. And proud of myself for it!
This is who we thought Orson was when he first arrived on Wisteria Lane. Can I get a Hallejuja? HALLEJUJA! It's like Marc Cherry actually heard my prayers and answered! I was so worried they'd just dumb Orson down after last season, but no...he's as hard-edged as ever!
Only he'd better not end up being:
-An Alcoholic (anyone notice the wine)
-Hardened by Prison
I still remember that one episode in Season Three when Mr Van De Camp took over the narration and said that Orson had the look of a guy who "knew where the bodies were buried". That stuck with me - if a spectral force knows Orson isn't a good guy, then I expect to see more bad things from him beyond hitting Mike with his car. I really hope Cherry builds on Orson's existing issues (Daddy death guilt, Mommy fear/loathing/responsibility and spoiled little Boy entitled to everything syndrome) and doesn't just whip up new ones (as he tends to with Tom and Lynette).
Other than that, not much to say other than I love Karen McC. She'd better stick around for the rest of the series. Don't kill her!
Disliked the cliched story with Lynette and her son. Gross and obvious.
Speaking of which, I'd really love to see what him, Zack, and ESPECIALLY Ms. Tillman are up to five years into the future.
...and Gloria

I didn't say it, but when I said I didn't know if they still had it, I was wondering if the police had the money.
