Thor, Iron Man II, and The First Avenger: Captain America are all basically preludes to the Avengers movie, which comes out after all of those. (The title of the latter gives that fact away. )

But yeah, as a fan of the God of Thunder, I hope the Thor movie lives up to expectations. I have no idea who will play Thor though.

I never really read the Thor comics, but I'm curious to see what they do with the film.

And I really wish they would drop "The First Avenger" from Cap's title. (And somebody, quick, please shoot down that frikkin' Will Smith/Cap rumor. )

Haha!! I would just be surprised, after the excellent casting of Tony Stark, that they would even consider going as far away from Steve Rogers as possible. Fortunately, I read earlier that many sources have already debunked the rumor, including Marvel themselves. So that's nice to know. I'm really looking forward to Cap's movie, especially since they're leaving it in a WWII setting.

I think I did hear Pitt as Thor awhile back, which just doesn't seem right.

I recall his name was also attached to Cap several years back. I could actually picture him as Cap. Moreso than DiCaprio.

Thor is one of those characters, that casting will be so very crucial. Much like when Arnie was Conan, he looked like Conan, you believed he was Conan. That's what they need with Thor, and knowing how to act as well. I don't see anyone who has both. Brad does not have the youth or the body or the presence for Thor, he proved that in Troy. And although he physically looks like a Thor, Triple H I dont think has the acting chops, name value or time to do it. It'd be cool if they went with the Walt Simonson run of Thor for basis. Either way its a movie I look forward to hearing more about.

I've really enjoyed the recent Thor comics that JMS has been writing. It has a nice balance of the fantastic and the ordinary.

In terms of casting I'd currently toss out Karl Urban as a suggestion. Maybe it's typecasting but I think it would work.

Someone said elsewhere, after successfully casting Iron Man with an actor who was very appropriate for the part (and Downey was excellent, even if I didn't like the movie itself), I'd find it hard to believe they would then deliberately cast a totally inappropriate actor for one of their other big characters when it comes to the Cap movie.

If Stan Lee wants Will Smith in a Marvel movie, fine. But cast him as an appropriate character. Will Smith is not Captain America material, and I will instantly write off one of my most-awaited movies if he's cast.

Here's the latest on Kenneth Branagh directing Thor. From IGN...

October 15, 2008 - Actor-filmmaker Kenneth Branagh was last reported as being in negotiations to direct Marvel's big screen version of Thor, and now it appears that the Oscar nominee has cleared his schedule in order to accommodate the God of Thunder.

According to both What's on Stage and The Coventry Telegraph, Branagh has pulled out of directing Hamlet at Wyndham's Theatre next year in order to film Thor. Branagh's Sleuth star Jude Law will play Hamlet on stage. Branagh previously starred in and directed a 1996 film version of Hamlet.

Hamlet is scheduled to run from late May through late August 2009, which suggests that Thor will film sometime next summer in order to make its July 16, 2010 release date.

Thor will shoot at Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach, CA.

With a director pretty much in place, I'm really wondering now who Marvel and even Branagh might have in mind for the role of Thor.

I've been watching Sons of Anarchy on FX and I have to say that with a little more muscle and a little bit longer hair, Charlie Hunnam could easily play him. For Sons of Anarchy he has long blonde hair. Also for the show he sports a nice blonde beard. 616 Thor has been clean shaven and bearded. Ultimate Thor has sported two types of beards. I don't know. I don't see it. He looks far too young and he's not going to be able to put on enough muscle to look convincing.
