Impressive that The Dark Knight managed to make that much money in one weekend. Meet Dave looks like it's the next Pluto Nash for Eddie Murphy, and that's not good...
We have a new all-time opening weekend champ as Warner Brothers' The Dark Knight edged out Sony/Marvel's Spider-Man 3's $151.3 million with a $155.3 million opening weekend! It joins a few other movies this year as being among the best reviewed movies of the year so far. Currently it stands with a rating at RottenTomatoes with 94% rating. Out of the 198 reviews so far counted, 186 are positive! Among it's all-time opening weekend record, it set the all-time IMAX opening weekend record with $6.2 million, the all-time opening day on Friday with $67.8 million, and the all-time midnight showing opening with $18.4 million.
Debuting in second place was Mama Mia with $27.6 million.
In third place was Hancock with $14 million and a $191.5 million total.
Coming in fourth was Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D with $11.9 million and a $43 million total.
And rounding out the top 5 and probably the most shocking second weekend drop we've seen all year was Hellboy 2: The Golden Army which dropped 70.9% with a $10 million take and a $56.4 million total after opening at number one last weekend.
Also opening this weekend was Space Chimps which opened in seventh place with $7.3 million.
Kung Fu Panda during the week crossed $200 million! And despite it's poor, poor opening, Fox/theater owners didn't pull in any theaters for Meet Dave and it still held it's 3,011 locations, but only managed $1.6 million.
Out of the top 12 is Kitt Kittredge: An American Girl (13th), Sex and the City (14th), which leaves with a $149.8 million total. Not bad for a $60 million budget. Also gone is The Incredible Hulk (15th) which leaves $131.7 million. The Incredible Hulk will just edge out the 2003 Hulk's $132.1 million.
Opening next weekend are two new movies. First up is the revival of the X-Files franchise with The X-Files: I Want to Believe (rated PG-13). Directed and co-written by series creator Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, it stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Xzibit, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly, Callum Keith Rennie, and Adam Godley.
And finally we have Step Brothers (rated R) starring Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Richard Jenkins, Mary Steenburgen, Adam Scott, and Katherine Hahn.

In other positive review news, it currently sits atop the IMDb Top 250. The lower number of reviews helps of course, but that is still very impressive.

Aww, it looks like WALL-E isn't going to pass $200 million.
Just remember, that if a film leaves the top 12, it's run still isn't done. There's still the second and third run theaters that should add to the box office gross, so the Hulk and Wall*E still shouldn't be counted out.
Next weekend, I'm going to finally see Hellboy II, provided I have the funds to do so.
I have a feeling Step-Brothers is going to tank. For some reason, Will Ferrel and R rated comedy just don't mesh well. (Outside of Old School, that is. That was R rated, wasn't it?)
X-Files might come in #2, but I just don't see it edging out TDK.

Spoiler:
Amazing. The Dark Knight is most likely going to be the highest comic book grossing film at this rate.

Good job for The Dark Knight. Can't wait to see it.
Whoa. What the hell happen to Hellboy 2?
This is just so cool. I am so glad it did so well in the box office. It was just such a good film![]()
One Piece fan. Bleach fan.
Wow, TDK did very, very impresssive. Mamma Mia! was a little lower than I expected. Hellboy 2 falling behind Hancock wasn't too of a suprise, but behind Journey 3-D was. Wall-E and Space Chimps made sense.
Next Weekend, The Dark Knight should sport about 70-60 Million, followed closely by Step Brothers and X-Files 2 with 35-25 Million each. Mamma Mia and Hancock should round out the Top 5.
I don't know if Step Brothers will suffer for its rating (Old School was rated R), but I just don't see it doing very well. Will Ferrell and his crew are quickly finding out that you can't just slap his name on something and expect people to show up. The commercials to me are saying...
"You remember Talladega Nights and Anchorman, right? You liked those didn't ya? Well this movie has some of the same people in it and making it! You gotta see this one too! Please?"
...That message combined with a joke about a fart smelling bad and ill-fated bunk beds made out of double beds does not inspire me to expect a big box office performance.

Heh, I remember when I said that The Dark Knight would be the summer movie to beat, people were like "NUH UH, INDY WILL BE #1 DURRRRR."
I love being right.
Want to see Mama Mia as I love those kind of movies.
