Apparently Fox News has broken the story. I'm sure people at MSNBC are pissed. I'm not a big Fallon fan actually I dont find him very funny at all.

On that note, I would say Jimmy Fallon is fairly close to their level, so it's not a huge shock. He's nowhere near Conan's level, but that's why Conan's moving. He's really too big for that time slot.

I don't understand how a two-year-old story is considered "broken." Fallon replacing O'Brien has been general knowledge for a couple of years now.

That said . . . not really a fan of Fallon. The episode of Family Guy with Meg's makeover pretty much displays my feelings about Jimmy.

They should have gotten somebody else. Dimetri Martin would have been perfect and actually closer to the college demographics the show has been known for. Hell, they could have moved up Carson Daly to the slot. Not particularly funny, but since he shed his MTV sycophantic persona in favor of a more indy-minded attitude, and Last Call is actually getting better these days. I wouldn't even mind Jim Gaffigan getting the slot, considering he's already cemented in the Late Night with Conan O'Brien legacy with his frequent appearances and the Pale Force shorts.

Say, how about a female late-night show host? It'd be different, that's for sure. Sadly, I don't know who could fill that role.

But anybody would be better than Jimmy Fallon.

You've gotta wonder if there is really much life left in the tired old late night talk format once Leno and Letterman are gone? Does anyone really believe Conan can carry the Tonight Show, or will he simply become the Katie Couric of Late Night?

Considering that Conan's ratings are typically higher than Leno, then he will be able to carry on the Tonight Show with no problem. I believe you will see some of the comedians on cable become the late night host for Letterman.

I didn't think so many people shared my disdain for Fallon.

But yeah, I've never liked him and I doubt anything will change when he takes over. Letterman and Conan are the only ones I like as it is.

Jimmy Fallon replacing Conan on Late Night? Has to be one of the worst decisions NBC has ever made. There are clearly much better people who could have fit into Conan's shoes, and it's not someone so humorless like Fallon. I had thoughts that maybe Jon Stewart could have been potentially good as Conan's replacement. Unfortunately, Stewart would leave The Daily Show in the process, but I'd say being the host of a talkshow on broadcast television would have been a good step in his career.

Anything less than the Late Show or Tonight Show would be a step down for Stewart. In fact, there have long been rumors that CBS are trying to snag him as a replacement for whenever Letterman retires.
