I knew this was inevitable, but it's still sad. Although I was an '80s child, some of his movies were still part of my childhood: The Omega Man, Planet of the Apes, and Will Penny. And hopefully one day we'll finally have Secret of the Incas on DVD.

    RIP, Chuck.

Wow. I have to say that I honestly didn't see this coming, at least not now. Does anyone know if he died of complications of Alzheimer's, or something unrelated?

Tragic to be sure, but given his ill health of late, it was sadly not unexpected.
Not it will most likely do any good, but I encourage any interested parties to sign this petition.

Is it wrong for me to say I'm almost happy he died? My grandmother had Alzhiemers so I know how it only gets worse and worse. Her death was sad, but it would have been much sadder had she gotten to the point where she didn't even know who I was.

To me, no Easter/Passover/Christmas break was complete without a viewing of one of the movies he will be most fondly remembered for: Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments (1953).

Was I the only one who wishes we saw more of Charlton Heston's boss character in True Lies? Such a bit part but so memorable.

Anyway, it goes without saying that I liked him in Planet of the Apes, and you know you're a movie icon when you play Moses and that portrayal is the Moses that everyone remembers (and imitates- "LET MY PEOPLE GO!"). You'll be missed.

I'll think of Charlton every time I watch Planet of the Apes.

He was great as Moses in The Ten Commandments and Colonel George Taylor in Planet of The Apes. He may be gone, but his work will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace.

    Hollywood, PLEASE. Stop dying.

    Just STOP.

I can't take much more of this.

Alzheimer's is one of the most disturbing, most emotionally shattering ways to go.

Rest in peace, Mr. Heston. Your legacy is assured.

A legend, but he may have been one of the most misunderstood and complex actors in Hollywood history. People like to gripe about his politics, but during his prime he liked to straddle both left and right wing films--he did a lot of prescient and lefty-oriented science fiction films as well as a lot of traditional, conservatively based historical dramas. I think, perhaps, he may have been an "actor" in real life as well, so as to keep people off-balance about what kind of person he really was. I can't help but think he fooled so many critics and audiences and was much more clever than people thought he was.

Another more underrated role I loved him in was the 1961 film El Cid.

Heston's roles in such epics will always be remembered and never forgotten. They will certainly be more remembered than his political career.

    R.I.P Mr. Heston

Maybe now I should go and watch Ben-Hur.

Ah, The Ten Commandments, that was an incredible epic and it features a great range of acting on the part of Heston. From a proud prince to a humble shepard to a bold prophet. The man could project his voice. He'll always be one of the finest acting legends.

Thank you, Heston, for making the movies we love. Rest In Peace.
