    "Superhero Movie" Talkback (Spoilers)

The greatest superhero movie of all time... not counting all the others

Plot Summary: Clumsy Rick Riker (Drake Bell) is bitten by a mutated dragonfly on a class trip, and soon gains superhuman powers, turning him into the equally clumsy superhero named Dragonly. Comments?

I know a lot of people are... cautious about spoof movies in wake of recent atomic bombs like Meet the Spartans, and Epic Movie, but Superhero Movie is actually funny.

Yes, the film takes it's potshots at other movies (X-Men, Batman Begins), but it's not just copying and pasting scenes outright like those films, the movie actually adds it's own delightful twists and turns to this Spider-Man spoof.

It's not Naked Gun or Airplane level funny, but it's a whole lot better than anything we've gotten over the last few years.

And please, DO NOT bash this movie if you have not seen it or say 'If this film is #1 at the box office, I'll lose all faith' etc. This talkback's for those who have actually seen the film.

I saw it yesterday and it was quite good. Not quite airplane or naked gun level of funny but probably first scary movie level of funny. I will say the most funny jokes are NOT shown in the trailers. It was obviously by the good writers of scary movie you know where they focused on making a good movie first. Some of the jokes you'll see coming a mile away but the twist on them makes it amusing. Its at least worth seeing in a matinee.

Yeah, I went in thinking that the scenes in the trailer would be the only funny parts of the movie... then we get the H209 bit at the lab.

I love how they took the Spider-Man scenes from the first movie and actually gave them enough twists to make them seem original.

    Another first for this movie?

    Spoiler:
The scene of Dragonfly hiding on the ceiling and not being able to hold it in is the FIRST toilet humor joke that's ever brought a tear to my eye from laughing so hard.

Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans were gosh awful trite. But this is watchable... it's not as good as Date Movie but it has it's moments.

It really seemed more like a cheesily bad super hero movie than that much of a parody but they did borrow some scenes from Spider-Man movies for certain.

I didn't laugh very much but I will say... just when you think they couldn't throw in another potty joke, they manage to sneak one in.

You thought Date Movie was good?

I thought it was hillarious. But in order to appreciate that movie you probably have to have enjoyed both Meet the Fockers and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. But I also like Alison Hannigan and she was very amusing in that movie. The male lead... eh... nothing special. And the random Kill Bill scene was unexpectedly awesome.

I must admit, the "This just in: Tom Cruise is dead." from the commercials gets me every time.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but it's good to hear that it's better than the last few spoof vehicles.

Amazingly enough, the joke actually fit in quite nicely with the movie.

    Spoiler:
It happens during the 'Dragonfly starts saving the city' montage, with the cliche spinning newspapers, etc.

I'm curious to see this, but mainly because I'm interested to see how many superhero movies they actually tried to parody or reference. Could anyone just like the films/shows they gave a nod too?

Obviously, Spider-Man and X-Men. But other than those...?

Fantastic 4 and Batman Begins were the only other two films the movie went after, although there might have been deleted scenes (beyond the ones in the end credits) that spoofed other hero films.

This wasn't 'Meet The Spartans' where EVERY scene and joke was ripped from another film, SHM just stuck to Spider-Man with the other hero films occasionally being nodded at.

I kind of liked the fact that the movie wasn't all over the place. It stayed focused (for the most part) on the Spider-Man spoof.

I was a bit disappointed they didn't spoof more superhero movies.

I agree with people. This was better than Date/Epic Movie.(Haven't seen Spartans so I can't say anything about that.)

I'm glad BB is spoofed, looking forward to seeing that. The Spiderman stuff looks funny! Would have been interesting to see them spoof Buffy though or Hellboy.
