Michael Cera is in final negotiations to star in Scott Pilgrim's Little Life for Universal, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Edgar Wright is directing the adventure romance, which is being produced by Marc Platt and Eric Gitter. Wright and Nina Park also are producing.

"Life" tells the story of a young slacker (Cera) who meets the woman of his dreams but finds that he can only win her heart by battling and defeating her seven evil ex-boyfriends.

The project is based on the Oni Press graphic novel "Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life," written by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Michael Bacall and Wright wrote the screenplay.

The studio is eyeing a fall start.

Hmm... Cera could work. He could look the part with the right clothes and hair, but it's hard for me to see him as anything other than a socially awkward teenager. Then again, if Scott is anything, it's socially awkward. I'm just excited to see this project moving forward.

Yeah, but Pilgrim isn't a teenager. Cera is a great choice, but he's younger than me... that kind of makes me skeptical. In fact, as foolproof as this movie is looking, I can't help but be skeptical about the entire idea of doing this movie.

I wish Universal would farm out the animation rights for the series to a Canadian studio. A direct animated adaptation of the show would be too good for words, and the government would pretty much fork over cash for it. Now that's an adaptation I'd be wetting my pants over. Also, who wants to bet that the movie won't be set in Canada?

I was looking at the thread title going, 'Scott Pilgrim. Why do I know that name?'.

Then I click on the thread and it comes flooding back. I'd heard about this film some time ago (never read the comic), and I'm quite anxious to see it.

Cool cover. Now which one is Scott?

Is Edgar Wright still directing? If so, then ultimate win.

Yes, that's what the article says.

Michael Cera might work as Scott, umm...I'm sorta skeptical but hey. I'll see the movie out of my love for Scott Pilgrim. :anime:
I'd really like to see the series as an animated show instead of a live action movie, though.

A review of the script is now online, but there's a major spoiler to be aware of
    Spoiler:
The movie will be a combination of all 6 volumes in one movie. Not one volume per movie.
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

I think it'd actually be good as live-action (hopefully Cera will seem older on-camera, as he's only my age and acts like it), because even though I am a member of "Toon Zone", I have a pretty healthy skepticism on the format being able to do dialogue-heavy adult-centered fare like this. No doubt there are score of exceptions to this, but live-action does seem like a good avenue for this one.

Also, I love O'Malley's art, but seeing it move would probably shock me to the core...

Hmm.. I love the Scott Pilgrim series, Shaun of the Dead and Michael Cera, and I'm glad they cast an actual Canadian for the part (although I guess it wouldn't really make much of a difference anyway). Still, I'm not sure how well this is going to turn out. Hopefully it'll be great, but I just can't see it being as good as the comics. I'm hoping they go with unknowns for most of the cast.

Scott's the one in the bottom right corner, with the bass. He's not usually sporting such an angry face though.

EDIT: I read that script review, and it's given me more hope. I agree that "SP vs. the World" would be a good title.

Bryan Lee O'Malley confirms the report:

And apparently it's "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life"; some guy made a mistake in the press release.

Mod Note: Posts merged together, and also please do more than just posting random images. This is borderline spam, so please try to add more than just pics to a post (e.g., links, context, info on the movie, etc.).

They may not look exactly like the characters (I mean, really, how could they), but it looks like Edgar Wright, the crew, and the cast have the feeling, and I have faith that they will be true to the source and make a pretty awesome movie.
