Actor Heath Ledger Is Found Dead
(news via NY Times)
By Sewell Chan
The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment building at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was 28.
At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body.
Mr. Ledger, a native of Perth, Australia, won acclaim for his role as a co-star in “Brokeback Mountain”, a 2005 film. The film, based on a short story by Annie Proulx about two cowboys who fall in love, won critical acclaim.
Reviewing the film in The New York Times, the critic Stephen Holden wrote, “Mr. Ledger magically and mysteriously disappears beneath the skin of his lean, sinewy character. It is a great screen performance, as good as the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn.”
Calls by The New York Times to Mara Buxbaum, a publicist for Mr. Ledger, and Steve Alexander, the actor’s agent, were not immediately returned this afternoon.

So what happens to the "Dark Knight" movie now!?![]()
What a waste. He was only 28, too.

Shooting of that is complete they were adding the finishing touches from what I know, so it shouldn't have much effect on the movie itself--maybe a delay in the release or something to that effect.
Very sad news to hear, he was a talented actor and a shame to lose him so young.
I'm speechless....
Man, this is horrible. What a talented guy.
Looks like drugs, according to NYPD. Again.
"If we listened to our intellect, we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd never go into business, because we'd be cynical. Well, that's nonsense. You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down. "

A true shame.![]()
R.I.P.
I just read this on MSN, and rushed over here right away to make sure it was true. I kept hoping it was a joke on their part, or if they were somehow trying to be clever with their headlines.
Oh man...![]()
I am in absolute shock right now. I truly believe the next bat-film was his breakout role. Another young Hollywood talent taken by drugs.
And yes, TDK is finished filming. I don't know how it'll affect the third film though, as I'm pretty sure Joker was supposed to return.
"We could have changed the world...NOW...look at us...I've become a political liability...and you...you're a JOKE...I want you...to REMEMBER, Clark...in all the years to come...in your most private moments...I want you to remember MY HAND...AT YOUR THROAT...I want...you to remember...the one man who BEAT you...." - Batman to Superman in DKR
*sigh*
Another young talented actor lost to substance abuse this year. First Brad Renfro, now Heath Ledger. Depressing.
I hope his scenes in "The Dark Knight" were already completed. It could have catapulted him into the annals of pop culture history as one of the most unique interpretations of The Joker ever captured on film.
Very depressing news indeed.
What does the X stand for? It's definitely not Extreme. Extreme starts with E.
God, how unbelievable and sudden. Just completely sad.
Not it will most likely do any good, but I encourage any interested parties to sign this petition.
