    How big is Hannah Montana?

    Like This Thread!
    Maybe Hannah's the new Britney.
    Miley Cyrus
Heck, even Britney Spears didn't sell tickets for her Grand Rapids concerts nearly as fast as Hannah Montana, aka 14-year-old Miley Cyrus of Disney Channel fame. Remaining tickets (after a fan club pre-sale) for the Dec. 6 Hannah Montana show at Van Andel Arena sold out in eight minutes Saturday, leaving some kids, tweens and their parents stunned as they tried to mouse-click their way through Ticketmaster's online hoops.
Granted, those who showed up at the arena box office that morning got tickets after the arena decided to hold out some to make sure everybody in line got a shot at seats. I'm not sure that's completely fair, but I also understand the need to reward those who go to the trouble of physically standing in line for seats.
For those who missed out? The arena issued an apologetic press release this week explaining that the tour is the "hottest concert event of the year," resulting in "record-breaking sellouts" across the country:
"Half of the total seats were reserved for the exclusive MileyWorld.com Fan Club presale under the sole direction of the tour producers. The other half were available for the public on-sale. The phenomenal popularity of this tour is much higher than any recent event at Van Andel Arena. In fact, due to overwhelming demand, not all Michigan MileyWorld.com Fan Club members were able to secure pre-sale tickets and were not given any special access to the general on-sale. "To put things into perspective, Jason Gluck, the president of MileyWorld.com, recently was quoted in an online article stating "it's a concert with 15 million fans, but with only 700,000 seats available at 54 venues. Quite simply, it is a case of the incredible demand far exceeding the available supply of tickets."
The press release went on to say that the arena did what it could -- restricting sales to a maximum of four tickets per customer and online sales to those with Michigan ZIP codes -- to reduce purchase of tickets by online brokers who inflate prices for tickets they resell:
"We understand your frustration with the matter, but please be aware that all entities involved have the best interests of Hannah Montana fans in mind."
Of course, not all fans see it that way. After a story about the Montana ticket rush appeared in Friday's Press, I received e-mails from frustrated fans as far away as Toronto and Baltimore who failed to score tickets for the tour, then were shocked by the way scalpers immediately marked up prices. A mother in Greencastle, Penn., said she failed to get tickets for her daughter, then noticed online ticket brokers selling seats for more than $1,000 each two hours later:
"I am just so disappointed in the amount of money these people are trying to resell the tickets for. ... Of course, I'm just frustrated that I didn't get tickets, but I don't think I'd be singing a much different tune to be honest with you even if I had. It's disheartening that for a children's show it really limits the kinds of people you'll have at the show because someone somewhere is rich enough to buy their kids those tickets. It's just not me."
Then there was a Canadian fan who called the situation "outrageous":
"Tickets for Miley's tour stop in Toronto, Ontario, went on sale at 10 a.m. for the general public and they were sold out in three minutes. It's not actually fair to the public to wait till the tickets start to sell and have them snatched by scalpers who are going to jack the prices 10 times more then the regular tickets cost. ... The only possible way to get tickets is to buy them from over-priced chumps or win them in some sort of contest."
Personally, I can't fathom the overwhelming demand to see this show, but I'm also keenly aware of young fans' intense enthusiasm for the pop hotshot, whether it's 'N Sync or, ulp, Aaron Carter. Will more Hannah Montana tickets get released for sale prior to the Dec. 6 show? It's likely. Promoters often release additional seats once stage set-ups and sight lines are known, though there are no guarantees. Still, there won't be enough extra tickets to keep everybody happy, so expect plenty of parents to remain perplexed.

So whats to say about this? She seems to be quickly becoming more famous than anyone in recent years. And whats wrong with that? There have been pop stars, but not like it was in the 80s and mid 90s where that one iconic name, Brittney, Madonna, Tiffany etc stood out from the crowd.

I hope she just doesn't end up like Brittney.

She's only big because she has the show. Once it's cancelled, she'll be in the same boat that Hilary Duff is currently in, which I think is funny because Hilary was probably supposed to be "Hannah/Miley" in terms of popularity no more than 5 years ago. Now that Lizzie McGuire is a distant memory in today's short attention span, Duff doesn't seem as relevant in pop music or culture.

Hilary Duff is still doing well. She had a new album out this year that did well for her, and her tour (which I saw in August) has been doing good as well. Of course, critics (most of them) refuse to take her seriously just because she comes from Disney Channel, but some do and her fans (obviously) as well. Her newest album was really good (certified Gold), much more mature but just as enjoyable as her previous ones, and showed she has staying power. She's already getting set to start work on a new album for next year. Plus, she's still doing movies.

As for Miley Cyrus, I was surprised to read that about her concert tickets the other day. I knew she was popular, but not that popular. I personally don't care for her one way or another (though I find her voice rather grating and man-ish). I think her dad has the talent in the family, and yes, I say that will all seriousness.

I think you could put a large rock on the Disney Channel, give it a wig and makeup and plastic eyeballs, turn it into a girl, and give it its own sitcom....and kids would go ape over it. They'll just worship whoever's on there.

    ...........Hmm.

I thought she was harmless enough until I caught a few minutes of her seizure inducing show on TV. If there's an appeal there it's certainly lost on me.

/sees the mods eyeing me. Alright, more of a serious post-

Disney has the power to make anyone 'a star' for awhile. But just wait a year, if that, and all she'll be going is Lifetime movies. That's what always happens. =\

I Think So Brain, but shouldn't Hannah be popular enough thanks to her Double-Album and that Jonas Brothers episode?

    LOL....

since im TZ's resident Hannah fan, i should have a say on this:

I think she would not end up like Britney or Hillary, but she should follow her daddy's footsteps after her show's done, after all, her dad's a country singer!

im still trying to get tix for the Newark, NJ show to see her and the Jonases, however, its sold out ...

The tour's scheduled to come to Albany NY in January, but of course the greed merchants (scalpers/ticket brokers, same thing to me) will have their plants in place. The attorneys general in each state need to regulate ticket sales and keep them confined in-state, as Michigan tried to do. You also need to keep them away from the parasites who only want to profiteer from Ms. Cyrus. "Hannah" is just another typical Disneycom, but won't hit ABC until after college football season is over.

The overpricing of tickets aside from this, though, needs to stop NOW!

I know nothing about this girl/woman other than the fact that her name rhymes and Disney seems to enjoy broadcasting her show/movie/whatever she's in.

Conclusion: She's not big among the college crowd or else I'd know more about her.

Well if I could interject here....

Well let's take a look at this, and explain why Disney itself is going south, and in a hurry..

First up, Miley is 15, not 14 (She turned 15 this year, and is in fact As old as Euro-Disney, that being said, let's look at it this way, Here you have Miley Cyrus, who's father is a popular Country singer and is in fact noted for stuff that most folks remember.

Now the only issue i see is in fact Disney has taken poor Miss Cyrus, and turned her into a "Teen and Tween" pop star, and like The Falcon Points out:

Quote Originally Posted by The Falcon View Post

yes you are right Falcon, at least she's getting her 15 minutes of fame, but she's got about 6 minutes left. Frankly when Disney stars turn 18, or 21, Disney just cuts them loose, and doesn't care really what happens to them, and whether or not the make it or break it in the real world. Frankly Hilary Duff is a Poor Example to compare, She (Hilary) has been fairly successful as have Christy Carlson Romano and Shia Lebeouf (Remember Transformers?)

But then like some folks have pointed out, Miley's no Brittney Spears, She's not even Lindsay Lohann.. She's Miley Cyrus.

The real issue here isn't about Miley but rather about Disney. If you are under 9 or over 14, you're not part of the "In Crowd" with Disney. And that in itself is what is hurting Disney in general.

Believe me when Disney cuts Miley loose, she'll have to fall back on her singing career to make things go right, like someone pointed out, Let's home she doesn't end up like Brittney Spears..(or Lindsay Lohann for that matter).

But then Martianinvader makes a good and funny comment about this.

Quote Originally Posted by Martianinvader View Post

    ...........Hmm.

Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Yes I'm pondering Brain, and from what I see, Disney is really hurting itself.. Maybe they should go in and replace all the Disney executives with large Rocks, give all of the rocks wigs and makeup and plastic eyeballs, and give them MBA's and let them decide what is exciting for the kids to watch.. Frankly We now see this with shows like "Cavemen" which really don't appeal to adults, and that they've toned down the animation with shows like Phineas and Ferb. Like I said, if you look at it this way, if you aren't between the ages of 9-14, you can't ride on Disney Channel's Entertainment..(or as I say, 'You must be "This Old" to watch.')

But as for Miley? I think she'll do fine provided that she doesn't end up like the afforementioned singers/actresses..if she does? Well then I blame Disney for her upbringing..(Also what's going on with Raven Symone? Ever since Raven has been turned off, you don't hear much about her and her career now do you? What about the Sprouse Twins, Dylan and Cole, They're old news as well..

And the assembly line of Child star actors continue to roll on, and in the end, this is where we're headed.. until someone speaks their mind, and does one final thing..and that is turn off the TV or change the channel. After all that's what this is all about.. Keeping us entertained.. and Frankly for me? I'd rather watch the History channel than really see Miley get up on stage and make a fool out of herself, but then, winners can't be chosers now can they?

It's like you combined the Holocaust and the riots together, and cut it into like, 25 pieces, and that's how big Hannah is. And I acutally kind of like the show. Not love, but it's nice to catch if nothing better's on.

Miley Cyrus is hot now, but she's just the Flavor of the Month, and next month, there will be a new flavor.

After Hanna Montana ends, Miley will go the way of Hilary Duff, and then Disney will find a new preteen girl, give her a kidcom on their channel and make her a pop star.

I personally can't stand her. I don't know how anyone can like the Live-Action on Disney at the moment. The acting is just all so.. bad. I mean, some characters aren't even believable. It's just stupid. That of course is just my own personal opinion, so I won't judge if someone truly enjoyed this sort of programming. It gets ratings and to Disney, that's all that matters.

In terms of her ending up like a particular screwed up mother we all know, I don't think Miley/Hannah/Whatever will end up like that, but more of the Hillary Duff route. I remember actually watching her show. How sad is that? Since it was cancelled, I could care less what Duff does. I always liked her more than Lohan though so.. (I don't like either. :P)

Either way, best wishes to her on whatever she does. She's got an okay voice, but nothing jawdropping imo.

Some people here seem to think Hilary Duff has just disappeared since Lizzie Maguire wrapped up. But she seems more popular now than she did when the show was still on.
