    "TNA iMPACT!" 8-23-07 Talkback (Spoilers)

    Like This Thread!
TITLE EDITED BY THE PENGUIN. Original: "What? No Impact talkback?"

I realize Impact sucks even more than ever, but what happened to the talkbacks? Have we all disowned TNA because of its incompetent, irresponsible booking habits?

Take last night for example. Two swerves on one show? Yep, that's Vince Russo in a nutshell. I've said from the go that TNA was just Jeff Jarrett reimagining the last days of WCW, and now it's become exactly that.

In the 90's, Eric Bischoff built WCW-TV around Huckster Hogan. In 2007, Jarrett, Russo, & Dutch Mantel are building Impact around the similarly out of touch with reality Kurt Angle. Read Santayana much, guys?

It's time to stop and change gears before Impact expands its black hole of logic to 2 hours. If you don't change the system, boys, you're history inside of a year.

This is the first week the talkback wasn't put up the day of the show. I just haven't gotten around to it due to playing the crap out of Bioshock on my 360 and working.

As far as TNA goes, yeah it's no secret that things need to change in that company, but don't place all the blame on Vince Russo because a lot of the good that has happened in the past several months within the company has been due to Russo. The real problem is Dutch Mantell, as he has more stroke, so to speak, than Russo has. Mantell is also behind a lot of the stupid gimmicks and storylines in TNA.

I think the two hour time-slot will really help TNA though because right now they seem to be way to focused on getting all the big names on TV every week in some way.

Here's a recent thread which sums up lots of people's thoughts on TNA:

    http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=195335

As for what I think about it this week, I'm sorry but I can't defend a company where Pacman Jones gets 25 grand an appearance. It really is insane that they rather cash in on controversial athletes than they would about their own product. I mean the X-Division is all but forgotten nowadays.

As for the booking, there was at least 3 teases on last night's program of heels saying something only to have the opposite happen. A Russo trademark of course. Just because Russo isn't in charge doesn't mean a lot of his wacky ideas get green-lit. And his idea of a swerve a minute.

The more I think about it, the more 2 hours may be a bad idea after all. I mean there will be wrestling. But I guess more of the big names/free-agent acquistions will be wrestling rather than the mostly homegrown talent. Not to mention more promos from the big names as well.

As shocking as this sounds, when THE COACH Scott D'amore was in charge of booking, that was a great time creatively for TNA. Now they're lucky if they provide us with just one satisfactory segment a show.
Grampa: I say we call Matlock. He'll find the culprit. It's probably that evil Gavin MacLeod or George "Goober" Lindsay.

    Bart: Grampa, Matlock's not real.

Grampa: Neither are my teeth, but I can still eat corn on the cob, if someone cuts it off and smushes it into a fine paste. Now that's good eatin'!

I haven't watched TNA in weeks and I'm not looking back. It can get cancer and die for all I care.
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

I don't really care if TNA goes under either. What I do care about is never seeing some of my favorite wrestlers again. 75% of the TNA roster is either a bad fit for or has burned bridges with WWE. And at this point I'm not enough of a fan to download, much less pay for, ROH DVDs. Having one nationally televised wrestling company, especially if it's the mostly nonsense Vince is feeding us, is a bad thing. The industry needs TNA, and more importantly needs TNA to get its act together. WWE has enough lemmings who'll keep paying for it regardless of how bad it gets. TNA does not.

On the plus side, the Chris Harris segment ruled. As did AJ and Joe.

I only half paid attention last night. Mostly because it didn't really interest me. The PPV is a mess and it's only three matches in. Why are Pacman and Killings #1 contenders for the tag titles? Pacmans' never wrestled. Killings hasn't in months. Didn't the Steiners just beat The Dudleys in a huge tag-match? Didn't the Steiners just have a match with one half of the tag champs (or the only tag champ right now, I guess)?

Wasn't Daniels #1 contender? Yeah, they explained why he's not now, but still. Like Daniels/Angle wouldn't have blown away anything on the card.

I guess this should be in the other TNA thread, but if anyone has WWE 24/7, watch the new Legends of Wrestling. It's about the Monday Night Wars.

Aside from them tearing at Bischoff for an hour and a half, he makes some good points. About why they fell apart (not pushing home-grown talent over existing names), and why they beat the WWE at the start.

Bishoff has a really good quote about how he started taking on the WWE. That "The WWE is too good at what it does, so you can't compete with it with that. You have to be good at everything the WWE isn't."

It's a really good watch, and has some very eerie similarities to WWE and TNA right now.

i did watch the recent roundtable discusssion-imo*one of the greatest things about wwe-24/7...this was one of the best ones. micheal hayes tried to take every dig possible at bishoff. i loved how eric went toe to toe with him though and held his own despite reallly being fed to the wolves in this one.

I haven't discussed wrestling in a while so I guess I will jump in here.

I actually haven't watched Impact in weeks and I haven't watched any WWE programming in over a month because I am just jaded on the product that both companies are putting out honestly I don't if I will ever watch a WWE show again.

As for TNA they used to be pretty good from 2003 to early 2006 but now they are making some really dumb decisions like bringing in Pacman Jones, Test, and Kurt Angle's wife and mistreating their homegrown talent. Also like Matt Bentley said in that interview I do believe Dutch Mantell is the problem behind a lot of things wrong with TNA but Jeff Jarrett and Dixie Carter are to blame too.

I like a lot of the wrestlers in TNA and want to support it but they have been making it so hard lately to do that. Letting Jerry Lynn go was just dumb I kow he asked for his release but that should tell TNA something right there that they need to change. Because if they don't they won't last another five years.

Also I agree that when Scott D' Amore was booking t it was good but when Dutch Mantell took over that's when things seem to have went down.

I don't understand why they can't let someone like Raven or Jim Cornette have a hand in booking the company because I'm sure they can do a much better job then Dutch Mantell.

Well I'm ranted enough in closing I'm giving TNA until about November to get their crap together so if I don't see any improvement by then I'm through with TNA that's all I say about it.

I usually post them by show time if they haven't been done and with the start of the new school year, I haven't had time. I will be watching iMPACT! tonight and next week things will calm down for me.

Let's make this the topic proper.
