P2P Doctor Who is now legal!

    From OG:

BBC Worldwide has struck a licensing deal with popular bit-torrent provider Azureus to distribute legal episodes of Doctor Who to United States users early next year. The programme will be one of a number of high profile BBC titles available via Azureus' new Zudeo client software. The deal marks a significant first step for the broadcaster in Peer-to-Peer distribution.

Which episodes will be carried, and what costs will be involved, has yet to be announced. The current series is airing in the US on the Sci-Fi Channel, BBC America and soon in select markets on PBS. The classic series is airing only in a few US markets.
    Way to go beeb!

The current series is coming to PBS? Who in commercial-free glory? Fantastic. Please, oh please let it come to WHRO or UNC-TV.
What does the X stand for? It's definitely not Extreme. Extreme starts with E.

But....Azureus is annoying, slow, and a resource hog....

Fantastic! Hope the same will go for Torchwood and hope PBS will air both the current and old series.

Sweet. It's cool to have them let it continue, rather than shutting them down.

This part of the article is too awesome. I know it won't be as new as the Sci-Fi eps, but still. There's no commercials!

Now, I just hope my PBS picks it up. The last PBS I had was fantastic because they had The Office, Monty Python, and Nova all in one night.

Word. I don't know why I used it for as long as I did; kept saying to myself, "Man, this whole bittorrent thing just isn't as cool as people make it out to be."

Then I switched to uTorrent, read the actual GOOD documentation (as opposed to the labyrinthine wiki crap that passes for Azureus' documentation) so that I could optimize all my settings, my download speeds tripled, and I got what all the hype was about. God I love uTorrent.

Good luck getting WHRO to run anything scifi. They seem concept on running old british comedies I'm tired of or junk I don't care for. UNC-TV stands a chance since they have run Red Dwarf at least.
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

You know, Azureus is only a resource hog when I'm using a slow connection (like 56K, ugh). When I was at college and had my broadband, Azureus ran nice and fine for me (and our broadband was leeched off of another college's). Then again, I don't really do much else on the computer besides type, surf the internet, and stuff like that anyway, so there's not much else to hog my resources.
