    "ECW" 11-21-06 Talkback (Spoilers)

    Extreme enemies
    November 21, 2006

Recently, Paul Heyman extended an invite to Matt and Jeff Hardy to appear on ECW on Sci Fi. The brothers haven't competed together in nearly five years. Will the former members of Team Xtreme accept his offer?

Also, it has been learned that Rob Van Dam and Hardcore Holly will face off in an Extreme Rules Match this week. After weeks of turmoil, what will happen when there are no rules to stand in the Extremists' way?

Heyman kicked off the last ECW on Sci Fi announcing that the sixth and final man to join the other competitors in December to Dismember’s Extreme Elimination Chamber would be determined.

Lashley made sure his signature ended up on the contract as he tossed Hardcore Holly like a rag doll, marched to the ring, then speared Big Show on the way. Will the ECW World Champion be able to regain some pride in time for his team's big match against John Cena's team at Survivor Series?

In addition to Lashley's big night on the last ECW on Sci Fi, Mike Knox had another chance at getting out his jealous aggression toward CM Punk. Knox, however, fell short again. Kelly smiled through the whole match and rooted her boyfriend's opponent on. Will Knox continue going after Punk after witnessing Kelly's reaction, or has he learned his lesson?

After his match CM Punk reasserted that his strategy to obtain the ECW World Title involves only himself. Along with the other Extremists set to compete in the Extreme Elimination Chamber, Punk stormed the ring during Lashley and Holly's match in the night's main event. All of the men exchanged blows, showing no allegiance. Will the upcoming competition spark new rivalries?

Finally, Daivari and The Great Khali continued their domination as they rolled through ECW Original Tommy Dreamer. Another new Extremist, Elijah Burke, faced his first challenge as he substituted for Tazz at the announceers' table. What is next for these new additions to the ECW roster?

Find out the answers to all of these questions and more next week at 10/9 CT on ECW on Sci Fi.

So basically I don't like where the Punk/Kelly Kelly angle is going, It makes Punk look like Carlito, and that's a bad thing. at Mike Knox being despondedt. Crowd was also dead during the entire Punk segment, I should add.

at Show taunting the fans after they annoyed him with the What's. I wonder if this means a possible angle with Steve Austin when he returns next year.

You know, call me a conspiracy theorist, but I wonder if Vince etc. are still upset at RVD/Sabu for their weed arrests this year. Think of all the factors:

Sabu: Pretty much squashed by Umaga.

RVD; they don't show his entrance AT ALL. Very shocking considering he's perhaps the biggest ECW face.

The odds of both winning the ECW title are slim to none.

Interesting sign that a TNA chant was heard during the boring/awful main event. There's your irony of the night by the LI faithful. Show calls them out for being 5 years behind, then the main event has a TNA chant.

So ECW was a mixed bag. Saved by Show's hilarious promo on the Whats.

Grampa: I say we call Matlock. He'll find the culprit. It's probably that evil Gavin MacLeod or George "Goober" Lindsay.

    Bart: Grampa, Matlock's not real.

Grampa: Neither are my teeth, but I can still eat corn on the cob, if someone cuts it off and smushes it into a fine paste. Now that's good eatin'!

Oh, "TNA"! It sounded like "CNN".

It was good to see the Hardy Boys back in action together, but they wasted their big return on what basically turned out to be a jobber match. They should've gone up against, like, Sabu and someone.

Meanwhile, CM Punk continues to win all the time (although I didn't see the past 2 weeks, so correct me if I'm wrong). They really should've had Mike Knox distract him or something. I mean, I'm always getting up set about interference, but I wouldn't have minded a distraction thing just this once to get Punk to lose for once. He's way too dominant. Everyone loves an underdog, right?

That's why I thought Holly would win for sure, if not clean, then via some run in. Glad it didn't end up that way though.

Big Show telling the crowd they were five years behind was great. I've NEVER liked the What chants, and they still aggravate me to this day whenever they start it up. I've noticed though that if someone just talks over them, the crowd will stop. However, if the wrestler verbally or physically acknowledges them, it'll continue for a good while. Show and Austin doesn't seem likely to me though.

It was great to see the Hardy Boyz together again. I had forgotten how well they work together. Too bad it'll be a short run. I say put them together against a reformed WGTT, throw in Cryme Tyme, the Highlanders, Cade/Murdoch, and a fractured Spirit Squad and you have a tag division all ready to go. Seeing Edge and Orton with the belts last night made me take notice at how good the tag belts actually look. It was a stark contrast to Cena's ugly spinning monstrosity.

Bobby Lashley did make very short work of Matt Striker. The most painful thing about this match was when Joey mentioned he wouldn’t be able to finish his “sports entertainment story-telling” because the match was going so quickly. My, how the righteous have fallen.

A great return for the Hardy Boyz! (Or Team Xtreme What was with that?) I figured the F.B.I. would be the team to receive the ‘honor’ of losing to Matt and Jeff, but Trinity makes all the pain go away. They almost had to give us the Twist of Fate-Swanton combo and they sure did.

Punk has beat Thorn before and we didn’t really get anything new here. I’m afraid getting Kelly Kelly is going to neuter CM Punk. He doesn’t really have a ‘tough guy’ persona that it will hurt him that way, but almost all guys who get chicks do it to either help get them over and take the character in a new direction. Punk requires neither of those things.

Show’s promo was okay, but hurt by the “five years behind” fans. Seriously people, get over it. I was afraid Lashley would talk when he got out there, but he let his fighting do the talking and that was a great move, the final moments had a strong intensity.

I don’t think anything RVD and Hardcore Holly can do now will top the match that saw Holly get that massive cut in his back. This one was alright and there was some good moments, but everything is going to pale in comparison now unless they get really extreme.

I'm really confused by what they're doing with Punk. Supposedly they want characters rather than wrestlers. So they get one of the great characters of our day.... and they push him as a wrestler instead, allowing as little character to show as possible. On the rare occassions he cuts a promo, he only gets to do his two-dimensional "I love competition" bit.

I'd almost prefer that they were burying him rather than giving him the most inept push possible.

    Decent matches, tonight.

I was surprised on how Punk won the match... Stupid ending, though... With Kelly and Knox showing up. The Punk/Knox rivalry needs to end ASAP. It's awful. Punk needs to start feuding with some new people.

Great to hear a "TNA" chant showing up at WWE events. I won't say it's the 90's all over again but ol' Vinnie Mac needs to start looking over his shoulder.

Anyway, I went to an ECW house show back in September and we were giving Show a hard time during the main event. And I must say, he ad-libbed a good comeback then too, answering our "You can't wrestle" with "I don't have too!"

Anyway, the Hardy Boyz reunion was the match of the night.... And Tazz reminding us that it had been a while since we had had an "Extreme Rules" match reminded me of everything that's wrong with Vince's "ECW".

Hardy Boys better not go to ECW. ECW doesnt have a tag title.
Smackdown has 3 tag teams. Kendrick/London (current tag champs) who have demolished all the other competition.
James/Stevens, who have lost way too much to London/Kendrick to be taken seriously for a tag title run.
Scotty/Funaki, no for reasons everyone knows.

Besides, London/Kendrick vs Hardy Boys would be a pretty sweet match.

Rumor has it that there's some heat on Sabu for being tardy to some house shows, and falling asleep backstage. Hence Umaga squashing him.

Rumor has it again that RVD will be forced to go to the Middle East tour this Christmas. And that RVD was not happy with said annoucement. He refused to go 2 years ago, the only direct refusal, which didn't make many/if any people happy.

So basically, RVD and Sabu are in the doghouse and if they continue this sort of behavior, they will be wished well on their future endevaors.

How about that Mike Knox? He sseems to be growing on people (myself included). I really liked his understated reaction to seeing Kelly and Punk together.

I think the Knox/Punk/Kelly thing will only be interesting if Knox dresses up as Bluto, Punk dresses up as Popeye, and Kelly dresses up as an oddly robust Olive Oyl.

Is it safe to assume that Matt Striker has worn out his welcome in ECW? The man was squashed by Bobby Lashley in nothing flat, and Joey wasted his "Incoming!" calls on Lashley destroying the classroom set while Striker stalled for time. I was waiting for Tazz, who has seen Lashley enough over on Smackdown, punctuate the commentary with a polite, "Thanks for coming!" to Striker.

"Leave it to Nassau to be 5 years behind!"---Big Show, commenting on the "What?" chants in his promo. Priceless. Even more effective was Lashley showing up again and running off the champ after a belt shot.

Hardyz-FBI was easily the best match on the show. Trinity was totally hot, and even accessorized with the hose. Ariel left her fishnets at home in contrast. I half expected Test & Knox, the latter of whom will see the Hardyz at Survivor Series, to be the opposition, but it didn't happen. Matt & Jeff haven't missed a beat, and it'd be a good idea to get Matt back over to Raw (or Jeff to Smackdown after he loses the IC title again) and get into the tag title hunt. I don't think there's that going to be that much heat left between Matt & Edge with Lita departing after Sunday, so maybe a Hardyz-Rated RKO feud would work. It's not the same as Hardyz-Edge & Christian, but hey.....!

Mike Knox sold his disappointment with Kelly pretty well, but if they're thinking of turning Kelly full heel, it'd have to be soon to make this work. CM Punk is used to being around ditzy babes (i.e. his real life gal Maria), so this isn't a prob.

Holly-RVD wasn't as great as their last match, but they tried. And, oh, yeah, they did show RVD's entrance. Couldn't you tell by the fact that some of his video played on the air? Surprised by the lack of interference in this match. 4 matches, 4 clean finishes. That's another pleasant surprise.

The Hardy Boyz reunion made my day. As much as I would love to see the two become a permanent tag team again, I really doubt it'll ever happen. WWE seems to be fixed on pushing both as singles stars (well, Jeff more than Matt), and in retrospect, it would be a huge step back for both their careers.

So, is there ANY other matches planned for December to Dismember? So far, the only known match is the Extreme Elimination Chamber and it's less than 2 weeks away. Hopefully, another ECW title is revived for the brand because they can't have everyone competing for one title.

There was a time when the Tag Team division wasn't a step back but a new opportunity...

    And Mickie. And Colt.

Seriously, Punk and Colt were one of the greatest pairings in the history of wrestling. Having this big goof constantly undermining his evil straight edge gimmick was pure gold. Clipped from their entrance at Final Battle 2003:

I was thinking about that and there certainly is not; there is only the one match. I hadn't really though about it being the week after Survivor Series until Tuesday night, this is just a bad move all around.

The only problem is most of their "stars" are in the Extreme Elimination Chamber, but they still have Mike Knox, Hardcore Holly, Kevin Thorn, the FBI, Matt Striker, Shannon Moore, Davari, The Great Khali, Tommy Dreamer, and maybe a few others that aren't participating yet.

I say they'll add a Davari vs. Tommy Dreamer match to the PPV, but what else they'll add is unknown with no other titles in ECW. It'd be nice to see the Hardcore Title brought out of retirement and have the others in a battle royale for the Hardcore title, but I doubt that'll happen. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Kelly vs. Ariel added thanks to what happened this last week.
