What the heck was that?
I was really into the episode and enjoying up until the final few minutes. I loved the flashback scenes with Blade as it helped depict a part of Blade that we had never seen anywhere before, in tv or movies. The little references to the charger and sword were good and then there was whistler. The guy who played Whistler had a good accent and his entrance with the bag of weapons seemed to fit. I thought they were going to bring him in at the very last second of the episode but I'm glad I was wrong. Shen's increased presence during this ep was very welcomed. The guy is entertaining.
Now onto the bad.
First off, Blade is portrayed as merely an average fighter who should be blowing through vamps with ease. Course, he doesn't and is saved yet again by someone else two episodes in a row. Come on, I know Jones isn't Wesley Snipes but he's still Blade, let him tear it up! Didn't help that the first Blade was aired right before this episode, had fresh images of Blade whooping vampire behinds going into "Sacrifice". Then his father shows up, which I didn't mind, but Blade's feelings about his father seem so out of character and...pansy-like. Blade just doesn't need this whole "you're not my father anymore" angle. It doesn't give the character depth, it just makes him look like he's got One Tree Hill type issues which definitely doesn't help. I really wish they would toughen up Blade, he needs it. Just realized I'm starting to sound like I'm criticizing Superman from S1 of Justice League...
Krista what in the world?? "I love you mom" *bites her mom's wrist and then smothers her*I know they were building up to that point of Krista thinking about how she could "save" her mother but I didn't think she would actually turn her. Krista already knows what kind of a curse the thirst is and she doesn't realize what kind of risk she's running making her mother a vampire? Yeah she loves her mom and doesn't want to see her go but that was just way out of left field. Now the next episode has mommy running lose and Krista needing help from Blade. I hope I do not see Blade take longer than 3 seconds to stop Krista's mom when they find her.
Another thing that bothered me this ep is Krista easily bypassing Shen's security by merely climbing on the ceiling. I would think they would have security that would protect them against vampires too and not only humans. Looks like Shen could learn a thing or two from Brinks home security.
Oh and nice work getting followed Krista, I knew it was going to happen eventually as there's only so many times she can go to Blade's hideout before someone tails her. For a former soldier however, it didn't seem like she was too hard to keep track and shouldn't she be on the lookout for followers?
Next week's episode will hopefully be good, I'll still watch the series as it's got good production values and it's still Blade but this episode did not leave me with a good feeling and to think, if the last few minutes were changed I'd barely be criticizing this episode.
Nice flashbacks of his early years

I cannot believe that Krista turn her on mother into a vampire. Of all the stupidest stunt to pull. I mean this is worse than when she was talking to Marcus about killing him with the sniper gun in the first episode. Blade origin story was pretty good. I didnt expect the father to be alive.
Cant wait for the next episode.
Great episode, I'm really enjoying this series alot more than I thought I would.
And it was good to see Shen back in the fold, he lightens up the series in a good way. Krista and Marcus were great as usual.
And the whole Charlotte/Baby thing was very creepy, but still awesome.
Yeesh! Cool episode but I have a few problems. Wing Zero mentions some great points but what I'd also like to add is about TV violence. I don't mean to open up a can of worms, but I really think a lot of what I saw in this Blade episode really wasn't necessary. And I only buy into the "I expect gore because it's a story about vampires" to a certain extent, because if that idea has no other thoughts involved then networks will just keep pushing and pushing because they think it's what will give them ratings.
Little Eric diving into that IV bag of blood was grotesque, but I understand it was necessary to get freaked out by that in order to fully take in the thoughts and feelings the story is trying to convey.
I just don't want the envelope to be pushed for no reason, that's all. I have no proof either or is happening here, I just wanna mention it.
Blade's fighting in writing REALLY REALLY needs to be improved. At first what I didn't like was the slow pace. But when it comes to fighting coreography I'm very picky, so I sat back and enjoyed what I was given. But with this 'Blade needs to be saved' stuff it just pushes the point further into a poor quality zone.
His father and the flashbacks were brilliant ideas. How was it that I didn't even think as to whether or not Blade's father was still alive? His conversation with his father, though, made zero sense. I think they were just looking for some character/story friction. Whatever happened to Blade wishing he was human? He wishes to stay as he is because he's been exposed to the vampire war and his best qualified to fight it, but at the same time he's always longed for the life he never got a chance to have.
So, we really ARE all just cattle to him? I'm cattle? Even if he ran away as a kid, you'd think that his feelings would change after growing up, because as an adult he would understand the harshness of the situation. Frankly I liked his dad a lot.
Whistler confused me. When I saw him walking to their appartment, I was wishing it wasn't him, if you can believe that. The reason is because the way all the stories I've heard go, I thought that Whistler found him AFTER he ran away from whatever home he had. I got that impression because in the first movie he said he almost killed him when he first saw him.
I so...TOTALLY did NOT get Krista in this episode. My first impression with all of her dialogue was positive, though. She was saying lines that might imply that she was planning to turn her mother, but her delivery of the dialogue just sounded like the normal non-vamp words of a daughter. And then we got stiffed at the end when she actually turned her. Weird.
Now, another reason why she shouldn't have turned her mother is....does she KNOW how to do it? She bit her and then suffocated her. Vampire mythos in Blade is based on biology and stuff, so all you have to do is bite her. The killing her by any other means was confusing.
A cool creepy ride with some confusing parts. Next week looks interesting.

In theory, I thought Krista's idea was good. She clearly had noble intentions and I mean wouldn't you want to find a way to cure your mother in that situation? However, I knew at the last minute that something would happen that would derail her plan. I thought her uncle would come in, but it was that female vampire.
Great backstory on Blade. It was sorely needed and it was interesting that he thought his father was dead. I also thought that Blade should have forgived his father, that he was trying to help him all those years back.
As for the fighting, yeah Blade should be wiping through these foes. It would be one thing if this didn't take place after Blade: Trinity, but it does.
Looks like the detective is getting to know vampires in the next episode.
Can't wait for the next episode. Looks like Chase is making sure this show earns it's TV-14-DLSV next week.![]()
I actually have caught a ep of Blade here and there. I was a big fan of the movies but the show just isnt as good in some areas. This ep was one I enjoyed though. We got a chance to see the background of Blade and how Whistler came into the picture and all that was nice. But I have to agree with most people that the fight scenes suck. In addtion to bad choreography, Blade just seem to not be able to beat on the vampires like he does in the movies. He should be kicking these guys butts.

Maybe if there is a second season, Blade will improve the fighting and show his toughness more. Like Superman.Originally Posted by Wing Zero

I hope this show isn't trying to fit into the movie's continuity...
Overall, weak fight sceneS. Bad Blade impression. Bad Whistler impression. Gore...a surprising amount of gore. Interesting Krista stuff.

It's funny I was watching Blade:Trinity on DVD and kinda thought, I wonder if Wesley's stuntdouble can act? I mean Clay(his name) closely resembles Snipes and is definitely closer to Blade than Kirk is. The guy already knows how to move like Blade, if he can act well and speak like Blade I'm all for having him star in the second season
About the TV violence that Nightwing mentioned, the only thing that seemed a little over the top was when young Blade was biting the neck of Mr. Taka's attacker and you could see the ligaments/skin stretching and ripping. I personally have no problem with it but I hope little kids didn't notice it like I did but that's why Blade is on so late.
The actor Michael Jai White would have been a great Blade for the TV series......its not like he's doing anything else.Originally Posted by Wing Zero

Hm never thought about Michael Jai White although now that you mention him, he's not bad of a choice at all. His martial arts skills is a definite plus as I guess as everyone else noticed, the movements during this episode's fight scenes looked slow and unprecise.
Hey look, he's got hair too![]()
Well I never said it wouldn't be noticable, as long as it's better![]()
I thought I remembered hearing something about him trying out for this part but yeah I agree Michael Jai White would have been a way better Blade.Originally Posted by Redi
