Batman was SO good...but as far as comic books translating into movies is concerned, Sin City beat down every single comic-based movie ever made. This is art, baby.

Batman Begins hands down.![]()

I voted Batman Begins. I own it along with Sin City and Constantine and Batman Begins has a lot of rewatch value for me. Since I have bought it I have watched it at least 6 times. Unfortunately I haven’t been in the mood to watch either Sin City or Constantine yet and I think that they are both good movies.

The only one of those I saw was Sin City, which was excellent. So I'll go with that.
Definitely "Batman Begins." It's not a "Batman movie" as much as it is a "film with Batman in it." I've seen about four times by now, and it's gotten better each time. "Sin City..." I can see why people love it, but it really wasn't my bag. Simply put, I go to the movies to see a movie, not to see an accurate frame-by-frame recreation of the graphic novels. As for "Fantastic Four..." ick. The Country Crock commercials with the guy from The Bob Newhart Show and The Rugrats in them have more depth and feeling than that movie. That being said, it wasn't all bad - Michael Chiklis was the perfect Ben Grimm and it did mark the Western debut for J-rock band Orange Range. All in all though, it makes one wonder how horribly bad Roger Corman's movie was if this is supposed to be the better of the two.
Batman. Sin City was great (and revelutionary) and all...but honestly, there's something about comic-book dialoge that doesn't translate well from ink to film. Batman Begins told us a nice long Batman story that wasn't lifted directly from a single source, and was more (as Andy Mancini just said and I couldn't agree more) 'a film with Batman in it'. We were kept guessing and thinking as the plot thickened.
Constantine was great too, though I didn't think it beat out Batman (though, I was very impressed by it's R-rating despite a relatively unknown character to the mainstream audience).
Fantastic Four....bleh.

Bingo. I think Batman Begins transcended the comic genre. It wasn't a comic book movie about Batman, but rather a drama about a man who becomes Batman. I'm going to go even further to say it's the best movie of 2005. This year has been such a downer, with stinkers like Revenge of the Sith, Batman easily placed itself atop my list.Originally Posted by Andy Mancini

It was definitely better than the Corman flick. However, it wasn't nearly as much fun to watch because you can easily MiST the older movie. The new one is just moderately entertaining and doesn't have a "so bad it's good" quality. Though I prefer Corman's Doom over this metalloid version...because Corman used the ACTUAL VERSION who is COOL and EVIL and AWESOME.Originally Posted by Andy Mancini
The thing about rating Begins is, there are two ways to do it. From a filmic perspective, Begins had few "comicy" elements and played out like a true movie experience. In this aspect, Batman wins. HOWEVER, Sin City was an artsy film that didn't make any attempt to distance itself from its comic book origin. It used silhouettes, selective color and unique character designs to boldly depict a surreal environment. In this aspect, Sin City wins. So take from that what you want. To me, the "best comic book film" is one that takes the best of both mediums and uses it towards a unique and exciting effect...and isn't that the kind of innovation the movie industry needs right now?
Speaking of which...where is the Sky Captain sequel? :anime:
Hey, I'm totally with you on that!Originally Posted by Temple Fugate

I just realized I left off Elektra which came out this year. My apologies to any fans of the film I didn’t meant to leave it out of consideration.

batman begins. a week or two ago i was thinking, "hmm. i dont know, batman is still better." but i recently watched it over the weekend and batman begins is the best.
i thought sin city was garbage. i really wanted to get some of the graphic novels before the seeing the movie to see what all the fuss was about, but i never got around to it. thank god i didnt spend any money associated with sin city (i didnt even pay for the rental). sin city had its "moments". kevin was awesome. and i liked the last part with bruce willis, but thats it. there was nothing in this movie that makes me want to go out and purchase the graphic novels. fantastic four was better than this.
my ranking for the year:
1. BATMAN BEGINS
2. CONSTANTINE
3. FANTASTIC FOUR
4. SIN CITY
DISCLAIMER: I am not bitter that I didn't get my Superman Returns sequel. My thoughts and opinions on Man Of Steel are (hopefully) completely objectional and unbiased. That said, Superman Returns is better.
I enjoyed all the films in the original list, but Batman Begins wins hands down. Sin City was utterly fantastic, which came as a great surprise to me as I wasn't expecting much from it, just like Constantine, actually.
Fantastic Four was fun, but not brilliant. Mainly due to it's pace and an utterly, terrible, terrible villain.
I've added Elektra to the list, just so it can be ignored.![]()
Sin City. Though Batman was nice, it was nothing we haven't seen before. This is character most of us know, and some of the details would only be appreciated by an afficionado of the comics, cartoon, and previous movies. It didn't take me to another place. It took me to New York/Gotham in the same incarnations I'm used to. It had a lot of good work, but I don't think it was as innovative or as visually dramatic as Sin City. Sin City also took a comic directly from the pages to the screen, and I didn't really notice the dialogue problems with the exception of one or two phrases. Overall I think Sin City beat out Batman in originality, visual dramatics, and the amount of individual character development in the time they had.

Wow, that was tough. Out of those, I only saw CONSTANTINE and BATMAN BEGINS. I didn't really like either, but I voted for CONSTANTINE. At least it had a pace that didn't bore me and a couple of good scenes that I did like.
My vote goes to Fantastic Four. Of all the comic book movies I've seen so far, it's the truest the original material. The acting is great, the special effects are superb and the balance between drama and comedy is quite well executed. Just a very enjoyable movie overall.
Thanks I had forgotten about that movie (which im sure is a surprise).Originally Posted by Stu

I watched Constantine assuming it was going to stink (if only because Keanu Reeves is in it), but it was actually a great movie. It's still a very distant third to both Batman Begins and Sin City however. I haven't voted in the poll yet because I've seen them both about a half dozen times each and can't decide which I liked better.
