ESB, then TPM, then a tie between ANH and ROTJ
we was just talkin trilogy but i would say all of the trilogy are better than episode 1
For me its:
1) ESB
2) TMP
3) ANH
4) ROTJ

I'm reaching up and reaching out, I'm reaching for the random, or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

One of the things I liked about ESB was that the heroes lost. And while the end of TPM suggests on a superficial level that the heroes won, it's just not the case. The whole conflict was designed for Sidious to gain more power. And that's why he's got that big***** grin at the end. He's got it made and the Jedi are completely ****ed but don't know it yet. That more than makes up for the lack of Fett in the movie.![]()
EMPIRE!!!
A New Hope was really the one I have watched the most, and will continue to love til the day I die, but Emprie just had more going on in it, and was the classic act two in the drama, where the heroes were faced with the impossible...and lost. Not that is why I love the movie, but it is just one aspect of why I loved that movie.
Return of the Jedi would be third on my list, but I really do think that movie could have been better. When Lucas wrote out the entire Star Wars saga (all nine episodes) in the early 70's, his plan was always to have episode six to wind up with the final battle focused on Chewbacca's home world. Chewbacca's people are slaves of the Empire, and episode six would have been on Chewbacca's home world instead of Endor and the Wookies would have risen up to war against the Empire and to help the Rebels to win, instead of those friggin annoying Ewoks. But Lucas had kids along the line, and I guess he felt he had to put some toy product tie ins for the yung'uns, but that ruined the movie. Just as his idea to have a character that appealed to the younger audience members ruined my fourth choice for best Star Wars movie....
The Phanom Menace. Jar Jar Binks is possibly the worst and most annoying character in a movie ever. The best thing I can say about him is the girls like him, which I guess isn't all that bad, but I could have done with out him. The Phantom Menace would have been SO much better if Lucas had included the scenes that are in the novelization but not in the movie. I really hope he includes those in the DVD release, because I think it would improve the movie quite a bit.

Actually, the reason he didn't do it on Chewy's homeworld was budget reasons. They couldn't afford to make all those full size wookie costumes, so they went with miniature versions, and thus the Ewoks were born. The Ewoks are a big reason that ROTJ is listed as fourth in my list.

Its funny, but I actually loved Jar-Jar. And I think its because I knew about him before I went into the movie. I had been reading about the movie before I went to see it, and everything I read about Jar-Jar made my stomach churn. I really thought he was going to be the most annoying thing I had ever seen on the big screen. And I think I made him out to be so bad in my mind, that when I saw the real thing, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined, and in fact, I found his rather enjoyable. Women love him. Kids love him. Its only stuffy adult males that don't!J/k - I know there are plenty of women that don't care for him either, so its not just the guys though I do find a lot more men than women don't care for him.

Really? I didn't think the novelization scenes really added much of anything - I was rather disappointed with the novelizations "extras" that everyone was talking about - they didn't seem to add anything to it for me.

IMO, the scenes with young Anakin on Tatooine, before we were introduced to him in the movie, in the book really made his character deeper. Maybe those scenes would have slowed the movie down, but the scene where he took care of that Sandperson was really good. They didn't add to the action of the movie, but I think the character growth was better in the book for certain key characters like Anakin because of those scenes.
Also, maybe the poor reception to the Holiday Special- particularly the Wookie home scenes- made it seem practical to distance the production from everyone's memory? The special aired only once and all...Originally posted by Clayface

1. ROTJ

3. TPM
4. ANH
1. I really enjoyed ROTJ, the Ewoks played off well against the Emperor since you have something so innocent in one scene and then something so evil in the other. You really got to see everything on a grand scale and I enjoyed that.
2. This whole movie keeps your attention throughout, except perhaps ol' Yoda and his stupid training! Seeing them lose, and leaving on a cliff hangar, was a great movie.
3. It started it all but by todays standards it doesn't stand up as well, probably because its been copied and improved on so many times. Its an excellent story, just not one I can watch OVER & OVER.
4. I could not really stand Jar Jar Binks or Anakin, they tried much too hard to appeal to kids and marketing. Anakin REALLY ruined it with his whoops and yeehaws, not to mention he just accidentally blows up the ship. All the character design and basic ideas were right but the story was really lacking.

They should have just had him be intense on the situation, concentrating, not saying anything - especially yelling out like hes play'n a stupid video game. Anakin was 9 but he was supposed to be somewhat mature, he has been a slave for the past 9 years and as calhoun point out, the tusken scene is just another example of him being a deeper more mature character.
Has anyone here viewed the Phantom Edit? I don't think its been mentioned on the boards here before. Someone, supposedly a proffesional movie maker, under an anonymous name re-edited TPM and slimmed down the stupid/silly scenes that were thrown in and other things like Anakin's annoying whoops, about 20 minutes gone. People are passing it around on VHS, it was even rumored for a while that Kevin Smith did the re-edit.

What I'm curious about are the Bail Organa scenes shot for Episode 1. The first TPM thing I picked up (march/april '99) was a sticker book that included him in it. And it looked _nothing_ like Jimmy Smits who was cast in the role for Episode 2. Heard all the scenes with the character in TPM ended up on the cutting room floor.

Yeah, but he has denied it. I think that there are actually 2 re-edits floating around now. Last I heard a couple film students were actually sending Lucas their edit. I think I read it at scifi.com. The story also said that Lucas wasn't going to try to suppress it or anything, unless someone tries to make money off of it.Originally posted by Vigo Sprax

Anyone know if it's on the net anywhere? Preferably quicktime or realplayer.

I saw a web site devoted to it which had a message board, it seemed they were trying to get it up on an FTP but no one was willing. I'd love to get a copy, especially since I haven't bought a VHS since the SE came out.Originally posted by killercroc

It sounds like something you could find at comic conventions.
