Bones "Pilot" Series Premiere Talkback (Spoilers)

    Like This Thread!
With all the Angel fans around I thought some of you folks might be checking out David Boreanaz's latest effort. Bones premiered tonight at 8 p.m. ET...

WORLD-RENOWNED FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGIST DR. TEMPERANCE BRENNAN LENDS HER EXPERTISE TO HELP THE FBI SOLVE CRIMES ON THE SERIES PREMIERE OF “BONES” TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, ON FOX

From executive producers Barry Josephson and Hart Hanson comes BONES, an investigative drama inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and best-selling novelist Kathy Reichs. Dr. Temperance Brennan is a highly skilled forensic anthropologist in Washington , DC . FBI Agent Seeley Booth calls on her to assist with investigations when the standard methods of identifying a body are useless – when the remains are badly decomposed, burned or destroyed beyond recognition. In the season premiere, Booth asks Brennan to help provide clues and information when skeletal remains are found at the bottom of a lake. With her team of specialists at the Jeffersonian Institute, Brennan determines the identity of the remains to be the ex-aide of a Washington , DC , congressman. A series of clues add up to murder, and Brennan wants in on the case. Although skeptical of all scientists, or “squints” as he calls them, Booth knows if he wants Brennan’s expertise on the case, he’s going to have to give in to her demand to a partnership with him and let her out of the lab. But Brennan may have gotten more than she bargained for when she digs under the surface to uncover who was behind the murder in the “Pilot” episode of BONES Tuesday, Sept. 13 ( 8:00-9:00 PM ET /PT) on FOX. (BON-101) (TV-14 L, V)

Cast: Emily Deschanel as Dr. Temperance Brennan, David Boreanaz as FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, TJ Thyne as Dr. Jack Hodgins, Michaela Conlin as Angela Montenegro, Eric Millegan as Zack Addy, Jonathan Adams as Dr. Daniel Goodman.

Guest Cast: Chris Conner as Oliver Laurier; Dominic Fumusa as Peter St. James ; Larry Poindexter as Sen. Bethlehem; Sam Trammell as Ken Thompson; Tyrees Allen as Ted Eller; Bonita Friedericy as Sharon Eller; Katherine Ann McGregor as Mrs. Bethlehem; John Sterling Carter as FBI Director; Naja Hill as Cleo Eller; Charles Janasz as Reverend; Damian T. Raven as Uniformed Security; Dave Roberson as Homeland Security; Yun Choi as FBI Agent #1; Jeff Witzke as FBI Agent #2; Marilyn Sue Perry as Customs Agent; Billy Briggs as Airport Clerk.

Oh, my God this was awful. I loved Angel so I thought David Boreanaz might make this show interesting, but his relationship with Bones was so cliched it felt like that "Awe-some-O" episode of South Park. I mean, even though she basically gathered all the evidence in the case he was still looking down on scientists saying they can't solve crimes. Come on, give me a break.

And the pacing was just lethargic. I mean, it seems like only about 10 minutes of screen time was spent on the actual case. The rest of the time was spent on hearing about Bone's uninteresting relationship problems. Oh, and we got those dull as hell montages with Bones looking at bones. Someone should have told the producer of this show that looking at bones really isn't interesting...at all...

Fox needs to cancel this show, fast. Too bad it got decent ratings last night so I may have to put up with it for a while. No wait, there must be something else on...I guess I'll watch Biggest Loser next Tuesday or something.

I didn't think it was that bad. It wasn't spectacularly captivating. It wasn't even captivating full stop.

But it was pretty entertaining. It wasn't bad enough to drive me away, but it wasn't good enough to leave me wanting more. I'll be tuning in every week, but only because there's nothing else on.

I liked it. I was afraid Bones was going to turn out to be another House like character but it turns out her social ineptitude is due to a lack of interaction rather than malice. I like that. It was also nice to see David Boreanaz in a practically sunny role. And am I the only person who found when Boreanaz got REAL close to Bones' face that it was more creepy than sexy? I'll be checking out this show for at least a few more weeks but so far it has promise. ***1/2.

The show was okay, but I'd still rather be watching Boreanaz on "some other" show.

When does Adam Sandler show up?

Wait, so what's up with this show again? She solves crimes but she has to wait until the victims are reduced to nothing more than a skeleton? What good does that do? Or is there a particular bone left at the scene of each crime? Maybe the murderers just like skinning their victims? There's something I'm not getting here.

Oh, and "sunny role"? Ha ha, Fone Bone.

Darn, I came into this thread thinking there was a series out based on the Bone comic . I was a big fan of it back when it ran in Adventure magazine all those years ago.
Currently buying: Gun Sword, Black Cat, Shana, Negima, Tsukoyomi Moon Phase, Best Student Council, Case closed season 2+3

It was OK. I'll give it a chance next week too, since sometimes pilots are crap compared to the rest of a series. So it may get good. After all David Boreanaz is a pretty good actor. The woman playing Bones is pretty good looking (I think). And I like the actor playing Boreanaz's boss, from his years on JAG (I've forgotten his name). So for me it has promise. My opinion: ***

For those of you Angel fans, CSI-type fans and other who missed it, the pilot airs again tonight at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

Well I checked it out just to see what it like despite having no link to David Boreanaz. I thought it was alright and I'll have to see what I feel like come next Tuesday, I have a meeting that night so I would have to put forth the effort to tape it.

Yes there is. Even old murders still need to be solved. Agent Booth isn't going to go to "Bones" most of the time if someone was murdered yesterday. Dr. Temperance Brennan doesn't work for the FBI—she specializes in bones and when Booth has got bones he's going to come to her. Since the show is about her, this will no doubt happen most every episode. Next week appears to deal with some sort of terriorist bombing so it will be interesting to see how she contributes there.
