IGN FilmForce reports...
This goes along with Lucas' traditional 3 year gap between major Star Wars projects. Though I do personally think that the CG Clone Wars series will debut earlier than that.If a producer announced a new television series in 2005, you'd expect to see progress on it by 2006, or '07 at the latest, right? Unfortunately, not so with the two Star Wars television series that fans have been promised.
According to Can Mag, at least one of the two shows, the much-anticipated live action series, won't go into production until at least 2008. It seems that George Lucas intends to do much of the writing and directing work himself, but his calendar is full for the next few years with the planned 3-D versions of the Star Wars movies as well as the long-awaited new Indiana Jones movie. After that, he'll start working on the new live-action Star Wars television.
At this point, it looks like it will be another three or four years before we find out what Lucas's vision of the post-prequel era is. This delay may or may not apply to the computer-animated series that deals with the Clone Wars. Perhaps if that comes out in the next two years, it will keep the fans happy.
Keep your browser set to IGN FilmForce for the latest on the Star Wars TV series and other news from a galaxy far, far away.
Still, kind of sucks though. But if Lucas is going to be THIS involved, then I'd rather have Indiana Jones 4 first before this new TV series.

It would be amusing to use Ford at his current age as Indy again. They would have to say he's in the 50's and fighting Communist Russia.Originally Posted by The Clown Prince
I don't know about the communist Russia thing, but Harrison Ford's real age WILL play into his Indy character in the new movie. That was something that the "big 3" decided on very early when they knew they wanted to make a 4th film.Originally Posted by Nin-Nin69

I had no idea they were having a live-action Star Wars TV show. What's the story going to be? Are they going to be based off the post episode 6 books?
Personally, with all the bad publicity George Lucas gets, deserved or no, I don't think it's a good idea for him to be deep in the product. I think Lucas has lost a lot of credibility as a director and screenwriter. Personally, I enjoyed Episode II as well as III, but the flaws everyone points out do exist. Lucas' emotional investment in the series might not make him the best objective critic of the final product. Star Wars has become bigger than the creator himself, so he really shouldn't be trying to restrict it to his own personal vision anymore.
I liked this project a whole lot better when Lucas was said to have minimal involvement. I can handle him picking the characters and the time period/setting, but he should really bring on a top notch team of writers and directors to do most of the heavy lifting. Originally the whole point of the TV show was to let others play in Lucas's playground; hopefullly that element hasn't been lost completely.
I agree, I think it's time Lucas let go of the reins a little bit.Originally Posted by AF$

2008, huh? Hopefully the Star Trek franchise will have pulled itself back together by then. A Trek/Wars television power block...think of the possibilities...

Maybe Trek and Wars can finally merge to together into one uber franchise known as The Star Trek Wars. (Or The Star Wars Trek, depending on who's footing the bill.)Originally Posted by Temple Fugate
But where is our common ground? Well, those mirror-Universe Enterprise eps talked alot about "The Empire, The Emperor, and The Rebellion." All they have to do is say that in the mirror Universe Earth became apocalyptically industrialized and got renamed "Coruscant," and that's about all the leg work you need.
What? hey, if goofy fan-fics can link The Terminator Franchise to The Matrix franchise, (under the guise that the future wars portrayed in Terminator are actually the same as the second renaissance wars as portrayed in Matrix,) Then I can pull off the Wars/Trek merging.
star trek wars would have to be on scifi where they should be...this is a myth. and the chances of paramount and lucasfilms co-existing in the same universe(channel) is a phenomenon in itself.

The Star Wars Trek was the vast migration of Star Wars fans, the Star Trek Wars was when the episodes of the original series were banned, along with that blooper tape of when the door didn't close all the way.Originally Posted by Style 92

I might watch this if there's nothing else on, but it doesn't look very appealing.

Whether Lucas is directly involved or not, Star Wars is his property, so he'd have the final word on any decisions regarding the show (he's executive producer, after all). So I think either way we're screwed.Originally Posted by VortexInfinite

If I created a fictional universe as elaborate as the one portrayed in Star Wars, I believe I would have a deep affection for the characters and an unending desire to keep some kind of control over what happens within the timeline that I created. In fact, if it was me, I wouldn't want anyone aside from myself to create anything within the said universe. As the creator, I can't imagine anything worse than seeing some product based in my universe and thinking, "That's not right at all! I don't want people thinking that's what happened or that's what so-and-so would have said/done." I suppose it's one thing if people create new characters and insert them into the universe, but we all know that some fans have continued the lives of characters like Han Solo and Luke Skywalker in many of the Star Wars novels. I wouldn't like that at all if I was George Lucas....but thankfully I'm not. :anime:Originally Posted by Enrique

In my very humble opinion, I wish they would have let the Star Wars universe come to a close with the release of Episode III. I guess the beast has grown too strong to keep in a cage at this point though.![]()
With Kevin Smith working on the show, I think we can count on it not being too hurt by Crazy 'Ol Lucas.
Demon's Souls: It's never felt so good to be beaten so badly. Expect me to invade your world soon...MUHAHAHAHAHA!
This still isn't remotely close to confirmed. Smith has been playing coy about it, but unless he has great rapport with Lucas I'm not sure it's going to happen. I love Smith and everything he does, but with as busy as he is a lot of his previous commitments (Degrassi, Clerks 2, Ranger Danger, Fletch) are going to have to fall together pretty quickly or be dropped if time is to be made for the helming of a television series.Originally Posted by Spoontang

Seems like it will be the life of Luke Skywalker
"Winter is coming." "Bango Skank was here." "The enemy gate is down" "Death is lighter than a feather, duty heavier than a mountain."
If it's going to be about Luke, I'm cautious. The EU has this habit of meddling in areas that should generally be quiet (see Obi-Wan going around saving other Order 66 survivours when he's supposed to be hiding out). This could even at worst become the Star Wars equivellant of Smallville...
It better be abut Jedi master Luke and not teenage luke chillin' on tatooine, gradually discovering his Jedi power while wallowing in teen angst.Originally Posted by HellCat
