Anyone remember Laurie Andersons "Oh Superman"?

    Like This Thread!
Heres the lyrics if you cant:

O Superman. O judge. O Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad.
O Superman. O judge. O Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad.
Hi. I'm not home right now. But if you want to leave a
message, just start talking at the sound of the tone.
Hello? This is your Mother. Are you there? Are you coming home?
Hello? Is anybody home? Well, you don't know me,
    but I know you.
And I've got a message to give to you.
    Here come the planes.
So you better get ready. Ready to go.
You can come as you are, but pay as you go. Pay as you go.

And I said: OK. Who is this really? And the voice said:
This is the hand, the hand that takes. This is the
    hand, the hand that takes.
This is the hand, the hand that takes.
    Here come the planes.
They're American planes. Made in America.
    Smoking or non-smoking?
And the voice said: Neither snow nor rain nor gloom
of night shall stay these couriers from the swift
    completion of their appointed rounds.

'Cause when love is gone, there's always justice.
And when justive is gone, there's always force.
And when force is gone, there's always Mom. Hi Mom! So hold me, Mom, in your long arms. So hold me,
    Mom, in your long arms.
In your automatic arms. Your electronic arms.
    In your arms.
So hold me, Mom, in your long arms.
Your petrochemical arms. Your military arms.
    In your electronic arms.

Did Laurie Anderson, by any chance, release a recording that was 10 discs long?

If so, then the "Art" story on my site has been calling her "Joni Anderson" for over three years.

She recorded "The United States of America," which I think was 10 hours long (and included "O Superman" -- man that's a great last stanza). I almost bought the whole thing one day at Amoeba Music in Hollywood, but I was poor that month and had to be happy with my tattered copy of Big Science.

Laurie Anderson is a weirdo, but she's the kind of brilliant, extraordinarily literate weirdo that quotes Walter Benjamin in a satirical retelling of Hansel & Gretel. I love her.

She also ranks right up there with William Shatner as most fun celebrity impression (in fact I think she's more fun since Shatner is overdone).

Okay, just to confirm it....did she do a rant about being carried off to be a member of Jimmy Carter's harem? (It's all in there, people, honest to gosh...go to my front page and click on "Art.")

I saw her perform it once on Entertainment Tonight a long time ago. That was the last I heard of it.
"Luck. That's what it all boils down to, doesn't it? The smallest break one way or another. It can change a life or destroy it. And you can't fight it. No matter how strong you are."

"I believe the man that you're looking for is the same man who beat Samuel here 'til he cried like a little girl."

"Well, I've certainly got to hand it to you for the meticulous care with which you have executed your finely-formulated machinations in extricating us from this devastating dilemma."
