Easter Weekend Box Office: Can you 'Guess Who' won this weekend?

    Like This Thread!
Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. We had two new movies open this weekend. Nothing to jump for joy over but definately time wasting movies. The one to pull it off this weekend with a number one debut was Guess Who which brought in $21 million.

Debuting in second place was Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (and quite possibly one of the worst titles I've ever heard) with $14.5 million and a $17.6 million total.

Dropping to third place after one week at number one was The Ring 2 which made $13.8 million and a $58 million total.

Robots came in fourth place with $13 million and a $87.3 million total.

And rounding out the top 5 is The Pacifier with $8.5 million and a $86.2 million total.

Opening next weekend are two new movies. First up this Wednesday is Beauty Shop with Queen Latifah, and starring along the way are Kevin Bacon, Alicia Silverstone, Mena Suvari, Andie MacDowell, Alfre Woodard, Bryce Wilson, and Wilmer Valderrama. Basically it's Barbershop for women. And that's basically what the creators said it was going to be. I expect a tight race next weekend with the other film that is opening...

...which is Sin City which opens two days later on Friday! Geeks, comic and movie lovers can't wait for this movie. It's very different than what has been in the theaters for a while, and hopefully that turns out to be a good thing. Will general audiences not familar with any of the comic or it's characters go see it? We'll see. Consisting of a HUGE cast consisting of Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Jaime King, Clive Owen, Brittany Murphy, Rosario Dawson, Devon Aoki, Alexis Bledel, Benicio Del Toro, Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Marley Shelton, Carla Gugino, Nick Stahl, Michael Clarke Duncan, Michael Madsen, Michael Douglas, Christopher Walken, Rick Gomez, Jason Douglas, Makenzie Vega, and Katherine Willis.

    Here are your numbers...

    1) Guess Who- $21,000,000 ($21,000,000) NEW!
    2) Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous- $14,510,000 ($17,610,000) NEW!
    3) The Ring Two- $13,800,000 ($58,085,000)
    4) Robots- $13,000,000 ($87,356,000)
    5) The Pacifier- $8,541,000 ($86,287,000)
    6) Hitch- $4,300,000 ($166,459,000)
    7) Hostage- $4,111,000 ($26,175,000)
    8) Ice Princess- $3,702,000 ($13,312,000)

    10) Million Dollar Baby- $2,610,000 ($94,160,000)
    11) The Upside of Anger- $1,250,000 ($4,015,000)

I've never heard of Guess Who, but it's good to see The Ring 2 and Robots in the top 5. Hitch is doing good, too. I really should see that movie. I can't believe Constantine's so low, though.

Guess Who was pretty much a remake of Guess who's coming to dinner except that instead of a Black guy visiting a White family it was a White Guy visiting a Black family and it was turned into a Comedy.

Sin City and HGTTG look like the only ones that stand out for April.

I would've also put Sahara, but i'm not sure.

Did I read that correctly: Christopher Walken and Michael Douglas are in Sin City? I don't know; I kind of wanted to be surprised. On the other hand, two more reasons why I must see it.
I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.

Sin City is going to murder the competition next weekend.

Not surprising to see Guess Who? on top of the box office, Kutcher and Bernie Mac look like they had plenty of chemisty together in the comedy. It's also good to see Be Cool and Constantine still chugging along, $50 & $70 million respectively. I'm sure those will do well with the dvd sales also.

I don't think Beauty Shop will do as well as Barbershop. Not a fan of Queen Latifah, and what Wilmer Valderrama is doing in it.. no clue. I think the weekend will easily go the way of Sin City. It seems to be doing a good job of attracting those who've never read the books with it's unique look and feel. Easy $30-40 million hopefully.

Sandra shouldn't be such a stranger! I'd like to see her in more films, preferably original non-sequel ones.

So what, is Kutcher going to do nothing now but comedies where he has to meet and deal with a girlfriend's disapproving parents? I don't want "Guess Who" up there another week....

It's not a lock that Sin City will be a hit. It doesn't seem "mainstream" enough to me.

Even though I plan to go see Sin City, I absolutely agree with that assessment. I wonder how audiences will respond to the extreme violence in the film. I think the race between Sin City and Beauty Shop is going to be a lot closer than people think.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. The Barbershop movies both opened strong, and so did Diary of a Mad Black Woman. When it comes to mad black women, I think Queen Latifah is a seasoned pro.

$40 million sounds awfully ambitious for Sin City. Little star power, unusual format - I'm expecting a similar performance to Sky Captain unless there's incredible word of mouth.

I'm looking forward to Sin City, but I do not think it will be a movie that will appeal to everyone.

After that, the next movie I want to see is Kingdom of Heaven, and then the highly anticipated Star Wars, which judging from the trailers, is going to be one of the best movies of the year, if not THE best.

"Little star power" ??? Did you not see the names in the cast? Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Jaime King, Clive Owen, Brittany Murphy, Rosario Dawson, Devon Aoki, Alexis Bledel, Benicio Del Toro, Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Marley Shelton, Carla Gugino, Nick Stahl, Michael Clarke Duncan, Michael Madsen, Michael Douglas, Christopher Walken, Rick Gomez, Jason Douglas, Makenzie Vega, and Katherine Willis. That is not a little star power

"Unusual format" ? While this is true that 'Sin City' has an unusual format, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, there are many people that love when something new and unique looking comes along. I have heard from many people that never read Sin City or heard of it but cannot wait for the movie because it looks great to them.

"Unless there's a incredible word of mouth." I think there will be a lot of word of mouth, there already is a lot of people talking about all the great reviews and tons of fans eagerly awaiting the opening day for 'Sin City'

I don't know how well it will do because it is something unique, violent and rated R. It may or may not take the top spot but it definately will be in the top 3 and I believe it will make a good amount of money and maybe even more when it hits DVD.

If you can't tell, I can't wait for Friday to see 'Frank Miller's Sin City'

There is no justice without sin! April 1st Sin City

Firstly, most of those are probably small cameos and aren't even shown in the commercials. Secondly, which of those actors has headlined a blockbuster in the last few years? I suppose you could suggest Elijah Wood in the LOTR films, but he wasn't the major draw.

I like the look, but the public is very skittish. They certainly weren't crazy about Sky Captain.

It's possible there will be great WOM. However, while there may be some eager fans there aren't "tons" of them. This is nowhere near as well known as Spiderman or X-Men.

I don't know how well it will do because it is something unique, violent and rated R. It may or may not take the top spot but it definately will be in the top 3 and I believe it will make a good amount of money and maybe even more when it hits DVD.
I'll agree with that. I hope it does well.
