I saw this DVD in the store and I want to get it badly. The Storyteller was one of my favorite shows when I was younger. I have never seen Greek Myths but hopefully they'll release that on DVD someday too.
Jim Henson was a genius.
Does anyone remember this show? I think it aired on The Jim Henson Hour, and maybe on HBO. From what I understand, the show didn't do so well in the U.S. because no one knew what to make of it. It was fairy tales, like for children, but it was done more in the style of the Brothers Grimm. There wasn't any blood or gore or anything, it was just intense. I understand it did better over in England because of culture differences.(Maybe they think kids are tougher than we do, I'm not sure)
The whole series(nine episodes) is out on DVD. You should watch it,it's cool. There were also four episodes done about Greek Myths with a new storyteller who is trapped in the Labyrinth with his (talking muppet) dog.

I wasn't as enchanted with the Greek Myths stories as I was with the originals. Part of that was that they were lacking John Hurt as the Storyteller, with that gleeful and ever so slightly malicious glint in his eye and the tone of his voice.
I kind of wonder how much also came from the influence of Anthony Minghella, who wrote all the original stories and then went on to direct The English Patient and Cold Mountain.

I wish Greek Myths had been out on DVD two years ago. I was in High School and our Liturature class was studying Greek Myths. It was also a bit of a history class, so we could understand what was going on at the time this book/poem or whatever was written. Because what was going on at the time affects what the writer is saying.
Here's a review from DVD verdict about Storyteller: Greek Myths.

I really wish these DVDs had extras. You know, behind the scenes, how'd they do that. I'm facisinated by that kind of stuff.
