No, there's no commentary.I'm the lone guy hoping for a Special Edition, because Costner's original cut was almost an hour longer, and I'd love a commentary. THE POSTMAN is one of my favorite movies.
If I remember correctly, I think the final scene is something like 30 years later, so I always just assumed that was enough time for the society to get itself back together. The book may explain more, but I haven't read it yet. In fact, I think the entire last third of the book takes place after things have been restored.
i always figured this movie was a great plot, great footage, poor execution in terms of what got left on the cutting room floor
i bet theres a lot more story sitting in some vault somewhere...
I hope we get to see it. I thought this movie was "ok" but something tells me that, as is usually the case, a Director's cut would be much better.

Michael, Your correct it is 30 years later. I did not know their was another hour of footage. I am also curious as to what was left out. But, like Waterworld. I doubt we will get the extended cut. And as with Waterworld the scene at the end explaining what the island was big.
I didn't know it was based on a book. If a third of the book was about what happened after. I should look for it.

Lord Dalek,
If you read the book. Can you explain what happens between when the Postman defeat the Holnists to the end with the statue ceremony?
Thanks!
Yeah, if you watch the trailer, you can see some stuff that doesn't appear in the film, including the entire monologue that closes out the final moments of the trailer.
The book is made up into three parts, and the movie actually covers onto the middle part. I think the second is supposed to show what lead up to society being the way it is in the movie, while the third part deals with societ getting back together and some diabolical super-computer called "Colossus" or something like that.
Check eBay for the Director's Cut of WATERWORLD. That's where I got mine. It's on VHS, but still, better than nothing.
Masochist. It's only sadistic if I force my family and friends to watch it with me.Originally Posted by Lord Dalek
Though strangely, all of them like it as well. Maybe we're all just messed up people here in Bakersfield.

Or maybe they just like good movies.![]()
The Postman is awesome and I am the proud owner of a copy (VHS though). I'll have to check out the book some day. And, I don't really have much more to add.
