I've seen this movie enough times now that, when I watch it, I skip straight to the scene when the Rebel fleet comes out of hyperspace to attack the Death Star. From that point on, the movie rocks.

This is by war my favorite movie of all time! You just can't find a scene better than the final battle of Luke vs. Vader. Both are physicaly fighting each other, yet both are trying to convert the other to their side, and both consider switching over to the other side, and all the while you have Palpy sitting there watching with a big smile on his face. The music for this scene is just awsome as well!
The final battle between Luke and Vader was awesome and very dramatic.
Yeah the final Vader/Skywalker scene has some great frenzy to it. Hamill really goes to town here when he does his final attack on Vader and the music is very stirring and gothic.
With Anakin's new depiction in the NT, I think rewatching this film after watching Ep III will give it a whole new level of drama.
Ewoks are annoying as hell and let the picture down, as does the focus on "muppets" (soon to be replaced with the just as annoying pointless CG creatures).
That said, the Jabba chapters are nicely paced and enjoyable. The Yoda scene is nicely done, with Kenobi's little dialogue. The end battle in space is good if slightly repeative of ep IV. I would liked to have seen the Falcon destroyed just to have given this battle it's own unique identity.
The only other scene that annoys me is the Luke/Leia Endor one. Both actors look very uncomfortable and the direction is extremely poor. Ford almost saves the scene... almost...

best star wars movie ever.
Return Of The Jedi has always been my favorite, ever since I first saw it...![]()
My favorite scene as a kid was the part with Jabba The Hutt.(I saw the special edition one, I also watched the original one too, though
)
I gave it 4 1/2 stars![]()
Lucas says in the commentary that the Death Star attack was supposed to come only in episode 6, but he added it to 4 because he felt it was lacking an epic ending.Originally Posted by SJJ
I too was disappointed that none of the heroes were killed in the film. It makes the conflict seem more real if there are casualties. I suppose they couldn't touch the big three, but maybe Lando or Chewie?
I watched this today, and it was more enjoyable than the last few times I watched it. Heck, the whole trilogy has been more enjoyable with the 5.1 audio and remastered video.
Anyway, this movie is not as good as ESB, but still a very enjoyable movie, and a billion times better than EPIV. Although Luke looks like he aged 20 years inbetween Ep IV and this...
The music was not as good as ESB either, but that is because the Imperial March didn't play enough.![]()
As for the ending scene, I think it was cool to have Naboo in it, that was great. And the scene with Hayden in it was not as bad, it just looks weird seeing him there with that dark look in his face like he is a pedifile or something when he is supposed to have been redeemed.
I always wished Leia would just die, especially in this movie. OH why did she have to jump off that speeder?
Anyway, I give ia 4/5, and now I can't wait until EpIII comes out.
Now I just need to watch the extras.
It's a subtle smile, not an evil look...I can sort of see why a lot of people think he looks evil, but when I watch it I just see him smiling back at Luke.Originally Posted by Deadly Messiah
Anyway, worst Star Wars movie ever - I hate Ewoks, I hate Mellow Leia, Han loses most of his coolness, Boba Fett gets an uber-lame death, Luke's lightsaber barely cuts anyone in the sail barge scene, and they just rehash the Death Star plotline.
It's still a good movie. Just not a good Star Wars movie.
CHANGES:
-Rancor matte lines fixed
-Naboo added to ending celebration
-2 seconds added to the Endor battle (not sure where though, but I know it's in there somewhere...)
-Sebastian Shaw's eyebrows are erased and his eyes are colored blue
-Hayden replaces Shaw as ghost

Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.

It's more than likely because after A New Hope Mark Hamill was in a pretty bad car accident that really screwed up his face. Surgery and make-up did it's best to cover it up as best as it could. But you can easily tell how different his face his between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.Originally Posted by Deadly Messiah
As for 'Jedi', I've always liked this movie. While most people can't stand the Ewoks, I've never had a problem with them. To me at least, they fit in just fine.
There were many great scenes in this movie. It had a strong opening, and ending. Though for the last Star Wars movie, I've always wished Lucas would have had a lot better ending type ending. Not just ending it during the celebrations, but ending Lord of the Rings style. But eh, what are gonna do?
Some one on here said this movie would flow a lot better dramatically after Revenge of the Sith comes out, and I really tend to want to agree. In fact, if Lucas does what we all hope he does, EPIII will tie up the prequel trilogy to the original trilogy quite nicely. I'm hoping he does a memory wipe of sorts to R2D2 and C3PO only because in the original trilogy, they seem to remember nothing of Tatooine, Anakin/Vader, Obi Wan Kenobi etc. To me that's kind of a continuity error there.
One final note, I read in Entertainment Weekly this week that Lucas said he almost put in a quick digital Boba Fett flying out of the Sarlac but utlimately decided not to. He said he had no idea the character would have become so popular with fans. Which is why he was bit character in 'Empire' and 'Jedi.' To me at least it seems Lucas' best characters are the ones he has no idea are the best and there for have the least screen time. Fett and Darth Maul to name a couple. Though with Fett, I think Lucas has tried to compensate by making Jango Fett some what of a bigger character in 'Clones.' We have no idea if Boba will make an appearance in 'Sith.'

The Ewoks are a better contrast than his original idea of Wookies vs Stormtroopers. Even though I usually despise "nature good technology bad" motifs, it works here for me.Originally Posted by The Clown Prince
Droids' memories get wiped a lot in the EU Star Wars novels. I'm sure that Obi-Wan *should've* wiped the two's memories. Whether Lucas cares to put that in, who knows.
The EW interview comments show up in the commentary track during that scene.

I have no idea what people have against Ewoks either. I mean if you can stand Chewie, you can surely stand the Ewoks, and Jar Jar in the PT.
And Mark Hamil being in an accident is news to me. When did this happen? How? I knew Ford was just before they started filming RotLA.
I picked that little tidbit of news/trivia up out of this weeks Entertaint Weekly. It didn't say how it happened, but just that he was in a bad car accident. But again, if you look at him in A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, you can tell there is a difference.Originally Posted by Deadly Messiah

Oh that. Yeah, that is where I first heard it, I think about an hour before I read your post. I thought maybe you knew something about it. Still, it had to have been something bad if it made him look a lot older.Originally Posted by The Clown Prince

Don't even try comparing Chewie and C3PO to the Ewoks and JarJar. Chewie rips people's arms off - the Ewoks are just some cute Happy Meal toys. C3PO is funny, articulate and endearing. JarJar is tedious, braindead, and horribly annoying.Originally Posted by Wounded_Dragon

And large tracts of Jar Jar's dialogue are ripped straight from C3PO's. Jar Jar is C3PO without someone restraining Lucas' good sense.Originally Posted by Desslar

We can except Threepio's faults because he's a robot...his hypocondriac nature is a result of his programing. The same lines said by a sentient being (who's also the source of stupid-looking slapstick) is less sympathetic. Especially when comparing a fake looking CGI to a character that's really on screen.
I hate the Ewoks. George admits they're just there for commercial tie-in. The whole Endor portion of the film seemed very out of place with the rest of the series.
Television Blows. So enjoy it.
