    Sopranos (spoilers)

    Like This Thread!
I've been meaning to post this for a while....
Earlier this season, I defended the show on the boards. But now I admit, I was wrong. I was REALLY disappointed with the finale. Could we possibly try to leave MORE loose ends? I realize they're probably (or, HOPEFULLY, anyway) waiting to resolve these things next season, but it seemed like EVERY major conflict was left open. Can't we at least have closure for SOME of these things? Here's some of things I have a problem with (And these are just from my memory. There are undoubtedly more):

    1) The kid Meadow was dating from NYU. Why hasn't Tony whacked this guy yet?
    2) Mefli's rapist goes free. Why hasn't Tony whacked this guy yet?
    3) Janice's search for Livia's money. Don't tell me she REALLY found Jesus!
    4) Ralph's murdering the stripper. Anyone else think this should be expanded upon?
    5) Carmela's idea to leave Tony. HELLO? I guess she got over it when he threw that wad of money at her? Pfft.
    6) Artie's atrraction to Adrianna. I was looking forward to a fight with Christopher involving kitchen utensils!
    7) The Russian guy pressumed to be dead in the woods. Come on, now. You KNOW he stole their car and left them to freeze!
    8) The car dealership lady. The storyline is so not over!

Jeez. There's even something that's been bothering me about LAST season. What ever happened with Christopher's screenplay???
    **shoots the show's writers**

    Re: Sopranos (spoilers)

Let's see if I can help out a bit on this:

    1) The kid Meadow was dating from NYU. Why hasn't Tony whacked this guy yet?

You mean the Africa-American kid from the first of the season? There's no need to. He dumped Meadow and that's it. Tony shouldn't kill him becuase he dumped Meadow. All the kid do was date his daughter.

    2) Mefli's rapist goes free. Why hasn't Tony whacked this guy yet?

Man, they better pic up on this one. That guy has to pay.

    3) Janice's search for Livia's money. Don't tell me she REALLY found Jesus!

I think that will be resolved next season. Her finding Jesus was just too convenient. Maybe she wanted to heat to cool of her before she continued her search.

    4) Ralph's murdering the stripper. Anyone else think this should be expanded upon?

Actually, Entertainment Weekly interviewed the creator of the show and this was just to shoe Ralph's brutality and how off-kilter he is. Ralph is gonna be back next season so this is gonna get interesting.

    5) Carmela's idea to leave Tony. HELLO? I guess she got over it when he threw that wad of money at her? Pfft.

I don't think she can. I don't think Carmella can give up the expensive lifestyle she enjoys. She'll be Tony's wife until the day they die. Carmela loves Tony and is looking for any excuse to stay.

    6) Artie's atrraction to Adrianna. I was looking forward to a fight with Christopher involving kitchen utensils!

I don't think we've seen the last of this...

    7) The Russian guy pressumed to be dead in the woods. Come on, now. You KNOW he stole their car and left them to freeze!

That guy is gonna be back next season, he has to be. We all know he took the car and left him for dead. There's gonna be major ramifications.

    8) The car dealership lady. The storyline is so not over!

    Man I hope not....

And as for Chris's screenplay, he stopped that dream when he got the shaft in Hollywood. Also, I reall ylike how Anthony Jr. has panic attacks...

This is the only thing I'm going to comment on having a strong interest in psychology and not being a regular viewer of The Sopranos. As for your other gripes, Bud, I'm truly sorry you didn't like the finale. But since I only catch the show sometimes, all I got from it was: Meadow's hot! lol, anyway, here I go....

He hasn't because he won't. And he's not going to learn about it either, unless the writers feel differently. And that's what I think was so strong about that episode.

The point of the episode was delivered beautifully. DG's right. That guy DOES have to pay. And we all wish it to be true. But for Mefli to do so would be unethical in her practices as a therapist and as a person, even though killing him would make ALL (and I mean all) of us feel better. That's not the true answer to preventing horrible things like that from happening, an she knows it, as a person and as a psychologist.

I agree if I'm reading this right. Having Soprano just kill the rapist would be to easy for her becuase she knows of his private life. Maybe she wants to deal with it on her own.

I don't think that Tony would kill him. He'd probably castrate him. Which wouldn't bother me one bit, heck I've got some really cool hedgeclippers. Yep, good, dull and rusty.

I think Tony would maybe torture him a bit first, likely catration, then plug the guy. The rape was pretty intense, and if Tony saw it you'd know the guy would be history.

I thought when I heard that Sopranos had been picked up for two seasons in a row, rather than season by season that it would be good for the show. Giving them a chance to work out a long story arc. Instead it almost seems like the writers got lazy and the story got diluted. In other words what should have been one season worth of stories has been stretched into two.

Ralphie should have been taken care of this season. This development thing should have been done. The Russian should have been dealt with. Janice just seems to be around as filler.

I don't think the story was helped at all by stretching this stuff out. There was plenty of build up and plenty of time to resolve them.

but, I've been thinking. And I think the main thing wrong with this season is the loss of Nancy Marchand. I just realized this after watching the finale. Without her providing the screwed up family factor, they delved more into Tony's home life. Which was boring most of the time. It sure wasn't boring when Tony's own mom caused a hit to be put out on him. Also, the show sorely misses the dynamic between Tony and his mom.

In short-I agree with you B&L, for some of the same reasons and some others.

Nancy's absence is a definate factor in the decline. She was a constant source of entertainment. I thought the way she was edited into the show in the beginning of the season was sloppy. It almost seemed funny.
And the screenplay thing wasn't resolved. They decided to use his ideas without his permission, remember? I guess next season the movie will be released, and Tony'll find out what's been going on. Hopefully, anyway.
As for the kid from the beginning of the season who dumped Meadow, I think (or again, HOPE) that they spent too much time on the storyline for it to just be dropped. It has to be going somewhere.
If that's all I'm getting from the Carmela plotline, then I feel pretty cheated. This COULD'VE been an interesting twist.

It would've been very interesting if Carmella was pregnant as they thoght she was. Back to the screenplay plot, I thought they concluded that when Alicia Witt declined to make the movie. I can't remember the scene exactly, but I know there was some sense of finalization there.

And I wish Nancy was still around - she was a great presence on the show.

What happened with the screenplay was, they stole some of Christopher's true-life stories, and put them in their own screenplay. No closure.[/I]

Hmm...would they bring that back? It's been two stories. Of course, that right there could be closure. The fact that his screenplay didn't get made but they stole some of his ideas.
