    Abstract Metaphysical Stuff - THOUGHTS?

    Like This Thread!
Here's a set of images I rendered a while back, while playing with a demo version of a rather fun 3D program. Nothing technically amazing... (Other than 190 environmental lights - yes, I'm insane - on top of two directional lights) ...but I'm looking for a critique of subject matter of some sorts. Excuse the punnish title...

So if you've ever had a secret desire to pretend you're a stuffy, overblown art critic, now's your chance! (No offense to stuffy, overblown art critics, of course)

Clearly, the black pawns are pondering the fate of the white pawn, who seems to have collapsed yet has not been removed off the board as per normal. Has the unseen hands that control their fate forgotten about this particular pawn? Or has this pawn simply decided to abandon the game of his own free will, causing the black pawns to look down upon him with envy, as they cannot muster the sort of self-actualization that could cause them to take their destinies into their own hands? Or is the white pawn just taking a nap?

The images remind me of an old Italian proverb:

"When the game is over, the king and the pawn go back into the same box."

They also remind me of a Jonathan Winters line in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World":

    "That guy's dead."

Okay, so I never aspired to be a stuffy, overblown art critic.

I don't know why, but it reminds me somewhat of a cross between M.C. Escher and a Pixar cartoon. Very good, Romey.

All I can say is this: That is really nice work. As a 2D artist with all the technical ability of a fish, I am continually in awe of anybody who can produce work of this calibre - very very nice...
