    A bunch of faces! (UPDATED)

    Like This Thread!
*The BBC would like to apologize for the poor quality of the following picture, but it's the best they could do no longer needs to apologize*

    (18'' x 24'')

(You can view a larger version here)

This craziness came about when our teacher in Art 110 told us to pick one picture out of around fifteen or so and do our best to reproduce it. Well, I tended to work much faster than the rest of the kids, so I ended up doing them all, then added a few other little things as well.

Some of the extras I added were the pipe, neck, hair and shoulders on the military guy (well, he wasn't necessarily a military guy, but that's what I thought of when I saw his face. He reminds me of Cotton Hill now that I think of it ). To his left is a Klingon. Above the Klingon is an original character named Gustav. The screaming face beside the girl is obviously original and so is the odd Darth vader bust below it. The mouth and tongue beside the girl were also added, as was Garfield, who is below and to the left of them. That big-lipped amphibious guy that Garfield is in front of was also added and so was that lumpy-headed guy further down, below the teeth.

    That was a big paragraph.

Obviously (I hope!), that's Albert Einstein in the upper right corner (who's forehead is a bit damaged). I don't know who the girl is. The guy on the left leaning on his fist is...I don't know. The guy in the upper left corner isn't clear to me, either, but he kinda looks Picasso-esque.

Y is for yay 'cos you posted some artwork!

Well... what an amazing and intriguing collection, there's so much to look at I hardly know where to start! Just to pick out a few then, Einstein has a real haunting quality - and an excellent likeness. The guy leaning on his fist is driving me nuts as he looks somehow familiar & I've convinced myself that that's Ronald Reagan directly down from the tongue and facing right. The inclusion of Vader, a Klingon and Garfield really makes for a strange mix but it works so well.

When do you start work on the new Mount Rushmore?

That is so far beyond cool, I'm not even sure where to begin.

There's just so much going on, end everything compliments each other so well. This sort of reminds me of the work of Hieronymus Bosch, who I absolutely love. I especially love Einstein's eyes, they just pull you in and refuse to let go.

    yeah, I'm still alive

woo, another blast from the batmanuel past! and another good one, of course, with that imagination of yours it'd be neat to see the real thing, or a larger version some day...

like you said, I think I have seen this before, but it's still good! I like the areas of contrast, dark eyes and so on. can't wait to see your next works (as I'm sure you can't wait to see my finished project *cries*) anyway, :thumbs up, buddy!:

Thanks for the comments, guys! That piece is probably in my top 3 of the most fun art projects I've ever done.

I took a couple of pictures of it with a good camera the other day (the one used in the picture you see was a disposable with no flash). It doesn't have a flash either, but it's very high quality and I took the drawing outside to take advantage of the nice daylight on the patio. Once I finish the roll, have it developed and scan the picture, I'll post a nicer version of it.

I also took a picture of my "ugly" painting, which very few people have ever seen. Once the roll is developed and such, I'll decide whether or not to embarass myself by showing it here.

But seriously..... Ok, I have nothing serious to say this time. I hope you show your painting eventually, though

Thanks, bud. I hope to. Actually, I should be soon with the July/August event.

I'll have to peruse my collection a little more thoroughly than I have before, I think. There isn't as much as I figured, as a lot was either thrown out or lost over the years. What I miss most are the Transformers drawings I used to do. I'd make up my own, including visual instructions on how they transformed. Probably couldn't understand it now, though.

Great stuff GoB! I envy your faces because I've really been working on faces recently, and my biggest problems are with hair and shadows... Do you think I should post some of my attempts?

Ha! Of course! We'd love to see them. And thanks for the nice comments.

P.S. If you're having trouble with shadows, you probably shouldn't go about them the way I did. All I ever used was an HB (a.k.a. "regular") pencil for that entire thing, and that can make things tougher than necessary. Of course, it was my own fault for not using other grades of pencils, but oh well. I'm just surprised I didn't load the paper with holes.

Hey Batmanuel, that stuff is great! Seriously, everything looks so life-like - I couldn't draw like that if I tried. Seriously, the shadings are great and it's almost like looking in a mirror for some of them. The way you organized them on the page for the collage was pretty good, too. Plenty of spacing and no one looks crowded.

First of all, thank you very much, Tim! But I must say, um...which of them do you look like?

    Einstein, obviously.

Actually, you justly caught me mixing up some metaphors - or in this case, similes. I was just saying they look so life-like that it was like looking into a mirror - or...ugh, you're right. What the bloody hell was I saying?

Well, you know what I mean, right?

...a dn there was me thinking Tim was the guy with the arrow through his head *yuk yuk*

Seriously though Einstein seems to be something of a runaway favourite here, G.O.B. maybe you should give him a piece of his own.

Yeah, Einstein is my favorite part of it, too, followed by the general guy and the one over on the left with the mohawk and warpaint. The only thing that bugs me a bit about Einstein is the shadow under his right eye, but that's exactly the way it appeared, so what am I supposed to do? Maybe I should do a piece featuring only him something. He's an interesting subject with lots of character.

    Update

I got a new camera the other day (HP Photosmart 735) and decided to take a new picture of the faces. I went with black and white to show (and try to remember!) what the paper was like before it yellowed so badly.

ooo, it looks just like new!

Showoff!! I mean, Good for you, putting your camera to good use already. And that looks very nice, too, especially the large version! The details in it are nice to look at.

What exactly IS that Klingon saying, anyway?

I had another [snide, or possibly not] remark lined up, but I forget what it migta been. So, just keep the historical art works coming, and I'll keep making fun of your spelling and grammar errors. I mean, replying.

Yup, that picture certainly looks better. Looks like we both updated our threads at the same time.

Oh, some nonsense about blood or honor or something like that. You know those Klingons...
