    Moon Goddess

    Here is perhaps, my favourite goddess, Selene. She is very well described in ancient mythology. She's said to have a round, and very white face, and wears a long white gown (or robes) and a half moon on her head. Selene rides across the sky, torch in hand, on a chariot pulled by two milk white horses, and is often accompanied by a cat and/or a rabbit.

    My depiction(s) of Selene (I've drawn her many times before) is admittadly, very Sailor Moon inspired, which, in all fairness, makes sense when you consider that Selene was one of the major inspirations for Sailor Moon. Selene and King Arthur, read the manga, you'll see what I mean.

    I took a few liberties with my Selene. In classical depictions, Selene's half moon headdress is quite large (rather remenescent of those worn by Isis or Hathor) and while a larger or more statuesque woman might be able to pull it off, on my petite Selene it appeared clunky. Instead, I opted for a small silver half moon, suspended by two strands of pearls. I Extended Selene's torch, making it something of a staff, simply because it looked more regal.

    Sadly, my scanner ate some of the more subtle colours in my pic. The mare in the original is much prettier, and her muscles are much more wll defined. Despite that, I hope you enjoy my pic.

    I met a lady in the meads,
    Full beautifu, a fairy's child;
    Her hair was long, her foot was light,
    And her eyes were wild

    You know... I think you have a certain stlye that would appeal to a niche market, alex. I can see your work deffinately in books or other items within the "new age" genre (thats basically what they classify this kind of work and writings) or even fantasy. You have a style that is all youre own... it has the feel of the Romanticism and Art Nouveau, but it has a lot of your influence... youre own process and style to it.

    I like the pic... very well rendered.

    I agree with Outie saying your art would really appeal to the mythology / spirituality market, it has a certain depth and sincerity in it that's sadly lacking in many of the illustrations that appear in publications / articles concerning them.

    I very much like the Selene on Horseback, there's a beautiful ethereal feel to Selene herself and her mare is nicely proportioned. The only thing I'm not too sure about is the placement of the horse's front legs. they seem to come too low in relation to her neck/shoulders although I realise she could be jumping forward. That aside its simply lovely
