You gotta teach us how to colour with pencils so well - just how many different shades do you have? Or do you do a LOT of colour mixing to achieve those particular colours?

It's rather a mix of both, actually. I do have many shades, and I blend everything a lot. Poison Iv's skin, for example was a result of blending, light peach, jade green, clay rose, metallic silver, cool grey 90%, and white. For the background, I blacked out everything in India ink, and coloured over that. The brand of pencils I use are really quite lovely, they're Berol Prismacolors. They have a very thick and heavy lead, which covers beautifully, and blend like a dream. I seriously doubt that I could achieve the same effect with another brand. They are reasonably priced, and can be found at your local Aaron Brother's store. (Could I sound any more like an advertisement? Seriously though, these are great pencils, and well worth your money)
I met a lady in the meads,
Full beautifu, a fairy's child;
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
And her eyes were wild
