    The Lion King (1995):

    Beauty and the Beast

The Beast, is one of th e few Disney characters ever developed that grew and matured in terms of character and values...Pinnochio was the other...It would be good to hear from other toon experts on this board, about the character development aspects of Disney toons....Beauty and the Beast wins hands down in my book. Snow White, Bambi, Fox and the Hound, Jungle Book, all slighted by you? You could have put in an 'other' selection, or used Disney's ten designated 'elite' movies.

    I am boycotting this poll!

    How could I forget,,,,,,,Stitch

In an earlier post, I stated that my criteria for a great Disney character were growth in maturity and values..That during the film, the charcter changes and sees things differently....Yesterday, I saw, Lilo & Stitch. Stitch, although somewhat odd, really fills the bill. And you grow to like him as the film moves along. He or she, will become one of the most loved characters..and one that shows real growth.

I vote for Beauty and the Beast, for reasons that oldtoonguy has stated about the development of growth and maturity in a character. Other factors I would include is animation, design, music, and story. Everything just worked together so well in a nice little package.

When Beauty and the Beast first came out I didn't give it much respect because I knew it would upstage The Little Mermaid, which is my personal favorite. January 1 of this year I saw Beauty and the Beast on IMAX and I saw how great a movie it was that it even got an Oscar nod. I love the musical style and that it was a fairytale story, very classic Disney. It also had elements that were becoming a new style with Disney starting with the Little Mermaid, such as the animation, the humor, and other things I just can't quite placed.

Even with the inclusion of critically acclaimed Disney classics, Beauty and the Beast would still get my vote, no question about it.

Not sure exactly why, but 'The Fox & The Hound' was always my favourite Disney movie. It was one of the first movies I ever saw in a cinema so perhaps that's why it strikes a chord with me

Fox was such a hot little fox....anyhoo, there really should be an "other" choice, can't beleive Snow White or Bambi aren't up there. My vote is for Beauty and the Beast though. My all time fav disney movie. It had wonderful animation, great songs, humour, danger and darkness/brightness. And bookworms rock!

I would vote for Aladdin, but due to the technical difficulties I have been having recently, I choose not to vote.

Oh, brother. Why did you have to put it in poll form? If you didn't make a poll for this thread, you would've given people more freedom, but nooooooooo...

I look at the poll and I see animated movies so here we are on the General Animation board!

BBF started the thread and that means he can pick the poll choices, perhaps he wants you to pick your favorite from these. There is no reason to get upset, just pick "other" and talk about your fav.

I voted for Aladdin btw. Great movie.

    Fantasia. Where is it?
If you get put in solitary, it ****ing sucks. I was put in there just because they had me in double-lock maximum security, and it's the most tedious ****ing thing. I can't think of anything more boring. There's a Japanimation cartoon I've been trying to watch on Cartoon Network called Witch Hunter Robin, and that's almost as boring.

I've always said that The Lion King was my favorite Disney movie, but more recently I've had a lot of trouble picking between it and Beauty and the Beast. They're both such good movies with great stories, characters, and music. Plus, I got the chance in April to see Disney's Beauty and the Beast: The Broadway Musical, which really allowed me to rediscover the music and wonderful story. Anyway I voted for the Lion King, just because I usually say that one is my favorite, and I didn't feel like trying to make up my mind.

You really should put in some more films. I love Emperor's New Groove and Atlantis(And think that I'll like Lilo and Treasure Planet), along with Aladdin and Beauty & The Beast.(And while Little Mermaid started this style, I don't really like it for some reason.) My favorite, though, is The Lion King. It has such a good plot and varied characters, great music, and arguably one of the darkest climaxes in any Disney movie. I just love it.

I voted for 'Beauty and the Beast', for it's well-realized characters, that breathtaking ballroom sequence, and the most romantic Romance of any movie I know of.
But mind you, it isn't my favorite by a *great* margin; there's several other Disneys on my Top Twenty Movies list.

'Aladdin' is hilariously funny- IMO it's Robin Williams' best showcase to date.
'Fantasia' is possibly the best combination of animation and music ever assembled; 'Fantasia 2000' isn't far behind.
'Snow White' is Classic, in the best sense of the word.
'Bambi' is both visually stunning and cuttingly poignant; 'Lion King' is similar that way.
'Mulan' makes the cut due to my sense of identification with the heroine (I never could pass for a demure lady), plus the lovely uses of Asian artforms.

And there's *plenty* of others that also stand the test of repeat viewing. I'm well aware that Disney does tend to make repeated use of certain elements- songs, cute sidekicks, scary villains who go down in big confrontations, Happily Ever After endings. But who else ever got such wonderful results from formula?

I'm sorry, but I don't care for the first Disney films, san Pinocchio. I know, I feel bad saying it, but they are too cutesy and sweet (Bambi in particular is notorious for it; it only gets good in its last 20 minutes.). They did at least create a bold new path for animation.

Beauty and the Beast! What a great movie! The songs are so memorable. I've watched that movie many times, and even though I know what's going to happen, whenever it's on, I still have to sit down and watch it, making sure not to miss my favorite scenes. A true classic.

Personally, I like Mulan the best.

I like most Asian things though.
