    Injustice against Emporer's New Groove!!

    Like This Thread!
The Emporer's New Groove was the funniest Disney animated film EVER! (Yes, Aladdin, I'm talking to you!) So what does Disney do... poor advertising leading to a movie that tanked!

And now I just found out that they're not even calling it an "official" Disney animated feature??? WHERE IS THE JUSTICE?? They let that Black Cauldron crap keep it's status! (One of my favorite books as a child, ruined!) And you'll likely never see Song of the South again, but it's still a Disney feature???

    My heart feels empty...

Emperor's New Groove was a very different Disney movie. I think it was just a couple years ahead of its time though. Shrek was a very similar film in style and Disney has been leaning a lot more towards comedy(or a LOT of comic relief) over drama stories. I think they want to maintain the "classic disney" title for the old or more dramatic ones and give the newer comedy ones another section. I'm still not sure whether I agree or disagree with that. Although I'm sure I could be debated on it, it seems that the newer disney stuff places more emphasis on comedy over story, which isn't always a bad thing, but its very different from the old disney philosophy, so it does make you wonder whether or not they should be considered under the same category.

Jerry Beck posted something at the TTTP saying that, if the upcoming Wartime Cartoons DVDs from Disney sell well, then Song of the South might have a chance. Cross your fingers...

    That really is a shame.
My great respect for a lot of original-format Disneys did nothing to dimminish my acute enjoyment of 'Emperor's New Groove.' So of course I was dismayed by it's lackluster box-office preformance. The movie and it's creators deserved better. They still do.

I do hope that's a joke. I can't think of a more effective way to reinforce SOTS's sullied reputation.

I took my kid cousin to see this , and we both laughed our asses off! , i mean , it has David spade and Jon Goodman , and it has not only slapstick jokes , but a lot of adult , sracastic remarks , i mean , this has to be the Disney movie that was made for both adults and kids on mind!

    ENG WAS a good movie.

But like all good things, it will never be recognized in its own time.

It's a pity, since Disney has proven itself excellent at comedy with this movie. But....Disney is Disney. It always makes dumb mistakes. =P Here's hoping it'll reverse that status in the future.

what do you mean its no longer considered an "official" disney movie?? i dont understand..

but imo, i like teng alot, but i do feel it is at times OVER rated. yes, if was very funny, but it was far from the best disney movie. i dont know, first off the title makes NO sense, and w/ all the tv stars doing the voices, i felt like i was watching a sitcom at times. but i did like it alot more than i thought i would.

as far as "song of the south", i remember seeing that at the movies WAY back when i was really really young. like very early 80s. im pretty sure it was song of the south, it had the zipidee do da song, james earl jone, and a scene at the end in a bull pen or something (yes, i actually remember it, and i was at most 3 or 4.

but i dont really remember the racist stuff. hmmm, id love to see it again. anyone know for sure if what i described above is song of the south and if it was re-released in the early 80s?? or im i thinking of a different movie? thanks. peace.

I remember hearing this, and then in my little ad book that came with Snow White, they had "Disney's xxth animated film" under all of the classics, but nothing under Emperor's New Groove. But now I can't find it.

However, I can't find any source on the internet saying that, but no official Disney source denying it either. The current order, if ENG is official, is...

    37. Tarzan
    38. Fantasia 2000
    39. Emperor's New Groove
    40. Atlantis
    41. Lilo and Stitch

Does anybody have a official Disney source or catalog that can confirm or deny this order?

We'll start a new thread for Song of the South, so that they don't shut this one down.

Shouldn't "Return to Neverland" fit in that group somewhere? Sure, it was a sequel, but it was a theatrical release under the Disney label which should allow it to qualify.

Return To never Land did fairly well from what I heard, so it probably should.

ENG is probably my most favorite Disney movie. i'm curious also as to where you heard it wasnt official.

As far as Song Of The South goes I'd love to see it as well, but if it EVER DOES get realesed, I bet you nine to one it gets butchered.

**thinks Brer Rabbit and The Tar Baby**

Too bad too - Brer Rabbit was once my favorite character. Well, him and dumb as a post Brer Bear

Return to Neverland, Dinosaur, A Goofy Movie, The Tigger Movie, and Ducktales the Movie are all NOT considered to be in the "official" Disney line-up. Return to Neverland is probably the most surprising of all of those.

Fantasia 2000 and the Rescuers Down Under are the only two sequels ever made that fit under that category.

All of the Toy Stories/Bug's Life/Monsters were all made by Pixar, produced by Disney. Dinosaur is the only CGI movie that Disney has attempted on its own.

Sheesh. Suddenly my list of "official" Disney movies from the past several years that I've really enjoyed is looking much smaller then before. Too bad, as I really felt The Emperor's New Groove was one of the better cell animated films released by Disney into theatres in a long time.
