Gargoyles episode analysis from Greg Weisman
[indent]Greg Weisman, the person behind Gargoyles, has posted a ramble on the episode "Upgrade" over at Station 8. Besides the analysis of the episode itself there are some interesting thoughts on animation mistakes. Even more interesting is the Memo that follows it. It was written while the episode was being written and extremely details story editing concerns. Just click the link below and scroll down to the green area:

This is great. You just can't beat commentary from one of the creators.
Erin says, "I think Goliath's going to choose the red guy." Meaning Brooklyn. I am briefly horrified that my own kids don't reliably know the names of the lead characters. (Of course, before last week, we hadn't watched the series in a year. But still...)

Erm, perhaps you're new to Station 8. Greg is in the process of commenting on ALL the episodes he helped produced. Since he's on "Upgrade," this means he's finished a season and a half already. You can probably find the rest in the "Ask Greg" archives somewhere.
Don't get me started on the guy's contests. . .

[indent]I have been visiting Station 8 for a long time. I just happened to mention "Upgrade" since it was the latest ramble, just posted today. I had not seen anybody post about Greg Weisman's analysis over here before so I thought I would give a heads up.

Yah, thanks for the heads up. Greg's updates are like a bolt of lightning. You never know when or where it's ever gonna strike. Also, they can be used for time travel.

"Upgrade" has not been shown on Toon Disney for quite some time, along with "Outfoxed." Grrr...
Maybe it's a censor thing with Disney. They get pretty liberal with Saban's stuff (X-men, Spider, Power Rangers) but won't show the Gargoyles dismantling the Pack or a bunch of robots...
Ah, well.

Ah. My apologies then.

Really? I thought it was just 'Deadly Force'.... And it's my observation that certain action scenes have been trimmed for Toon Disney. And for what? It's on at 11 pm on weeknights.

I'm reading the comments on "Double Jeopardy" right now and wondering why he doesn't address the bizarre pseudoincest angle--I mean, Thailog is sort of Goliath's son, and he and Demona are lovers...well, maybe not pure 'cest, since he didn't come from her womb, but still...creep factor, definately. Actually, it's more like a woman seducing her stepson...and would've gotten wierder if Demona could still bear children (that was never addressed, but I suspect either age or her pact with Macbeth rendered her infertile).

Well, Toon Disney has shown Upgrade and Outfoxed before, just not in the last few run-throughs of the show. I don't know why. Season 1 and The Goliath Chronicles are mostly unedited, it's Season 2 that mostly got chopped up, sometimes a second, sometimes fifteen seconds...
When you've seen both the original and Toon Disney series several times (I have copies of the original version on tape), it gets to be very noticible.
til next time kiddies...

The Marvel comic book was weirder. A gargoyle female cloned from a mix of Goliath and Elisa's DNA showed up, and immediately made moves on Goliath. I always wanted to see said female gargoyle (Venus) meet up with Angela and Delilah. Maybe on Springer? Hell, Delilah and her moms might be enough.
