How far into the future does this show take place exactly? If it was stated in the episode itself I did not catch it. Really the only date stated in the show was "Vintage auto parts from 2072" So the show must be quite a bit further then fifty years in the future for 2072 to be Vintage.

Really what is the state of the future of this Earth? Is most of America like Detroit Deluxe or closer to old Detroit/motorcity. Is America even still around (probably) but if it's not say the major cities are still around and all controlled by people like Kane. Now I;m sure these questions will be answered but it feels like we should know more from the start.

I can't help but feel that they could have done a much better job setting up the setting for the show. Maybe if this was a two parter instead of a single episode the set up would have been better.

I really hope this show is not all style over substance because as great as style as and as much style as this show has it can only drive the show for so long. Pun completly intended.

    From TheFutonCritic.com:

    Motorcity (9:00) - Disney XD
    0.481 million viewers, #26; 0.132 million adults 18-49 (0.1 rating), #26

I don't really look at Disney XD's ratings... Can someone tell me if Motorcity did good or bad for Disney XD's standards?

Here are the ratings for the shows that were on before Motorcity:

Kickin' It (8:00) - Disney XD
    0.598 million viewers, #24; 0.104 million adults 18-49 (0.1 rating), #28

Lab Rats (8:30, Repeat) - Disney XD
    0.668 million viewers, #21; 0.136 million adults 18-49 (0.1 rating), #25

Why is it I can find TV ratings for Motorcity but not for the Marvel Block?

Animation is really very beautiful in this one, but the pace is way too hyper and fast -- its obviously
aimed at the male teen crowd. I think I'll settle for some thing a little more sedate...

It's probably because Marvel Universe is in the morning while Motorcity is in prime time. Most websites only report prime time ratings.

However, he then proceeded to become a giant hologram and brag to everybody about how he is going to destroy Motorcity. I'm pretty sure Motorcity is legal and has every right to exist, considering he built a city over top of it and didn't just destroy everything in the first place. Then again, I doubt the show will ever explain how the U.S. Government allowed one of their city's to apparently secede from the nation and become a dictatorship, so it is what it is.

I know this is a series where cars can drive up walls, so it doesn't need to make sense, but I just think a villain needs to be properly handled. It seems that he hasn't taken over the world, and is only in charge of one city, so he should be a lot more subtle than he is.
That was pretty much my only complaint about the first episode. At the very least, I would've expected Kane to seem like a benevolent futurist when talking to the public, more like a Steve Jobs sort of figure - revered as an innovator rather than a dictator. Instead he just always comes off as a villain, regardless of whom he's addressing.

That aside, Motorcity is very, very impressive. I will be following this one with much enthusiasm.

First of all, I have to say that I'm really digging the character designs. I love this art style.

As to the show, like others, my biggest complaint was with the villain. I also hope the team faces more opponents than just robots every week. But, overall, I found the episode pretty enjoyable. I'll definitely be back next week.

BTW, who did the voice of Julie? Was that Madeleine "Fiona" Martin? I need to ask because I was totally wrong on the Steve Blum thing.

From the Disney XD Media page:

Reid Scott ("My Boys") as Mike; Nate Torrence ("She's Out of My League") as Chuck; Kate Micucci ("When in Rome") as Julie; Kel Mitchell ("Kenan and Kel") as Dutch; Jess Harnell ("Drawn Together") as Texas; and Mark Hamill ("Star Wars") as Abraham Kane.
Could have sworn that it was Grey Delisle doing Julie, but it seems like half the female voices on the air are Grey Delisle to me. Then again, maybe it's because she actually is like half the female voices on the air today .

Really? I probably get Reid Scott gets confused by Steve Blum but Grey DeLisle didn't came to mind when hearing Julie but can't blame you, she's the female version of Frank Welker when it comes to voice alot of characters :P.

And here I thought Texas was Patrick Warburton. I'm just getting confused with the voices.

It is a very Warburton-esque so that's understandable.

Woah. This was actually pretty good. The plot was all around okay, nothing that engaging IMO. But I particularly liked Abraham Kane, Mark Hamil I think does a great job, and is probably the reason I like Abraham in the first place.

The characters were all fun, especially Texas. All the action scenes were well executed.

Really get a Sym-Bionic Titans vibe from this, enjoyed it a lot.

This show is a step in the right direction for Disney XD, Which needs more action shows other than Spiderman/Avengers.

There is a featurette of Chris Prynocki and Disney's Eric Coleman talking about the show, and they mentioned Robin Hood as a touchstone for this series. In relation to your questions, I think they may be interesting but they ultimately don't really need answers. The setting for the show is Motorcity and Deluxe, just as the setting for Robin Hood is Sherwood Forest and Nottingham. It's not relevant what happened to King Richard during the Crusades, how Sir Guy of Gisborne and the Sheriff of Nottingham seized power, or what else the other realms of England are doing because the story is about Robin Hood. It might be interesting to know what's happening to the other cities or what's happening to America, but that's really not where the story is focused, just as Robin Hood doesn't go outside Nottingham.

I also appreciate the fact that the show doesn't waste a lot of time in open exposition, and delivers whatever you need to know on the fly. I'd rather they keep pushing forward rather than spending a lot of time looking back or around.

Titmouse released a neat 11 minute video showing how scenes go from their rough to final forms. It includes a lot of new footage to boot (new stuff starts around the 4:45 mark). Texas' scene is hilarious. It's just ridiculous how good this show looks in HD (watch the HD version of the clip if you can. It really suits the format nicely).
