    Does Anyone Miss Disney Musicals?

    Like This Thread!
I hear a lot of people commenting on how they're glad Disney is departing from their traditional musical style. While I agree that many of their films are okay without being musicals, I still kinda miss them. It's not simply that a few are non-musicals, it just seems that Disney is leaving them behind all together. My personal feeling is that Disney is losing its creative touch and no longer knows how to create a decent musical. Does anyone else out there miss Disney musicals as much as I do?

Actually I've enjoyed the breather from the traditional musical - there has been more than one animated movie I wanted to slap someone for breaking into song every five minutes (Aristocats for one). However Treasure Island will have a couple of songs that the main characters will sing. Overall I didn't mind Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin or Lion Kings songs but I enjoyed the songs over top of the action in Tarzan more.

I don't miss the Disney Musicials one bit. In fact, i welcome the change.

If I want to see a musical, I'll watch one with real actors.

It's now kinda painful for me to watch a Disney musical. It's annoying and kind of babyish.

Treasure Planet....has SONGS?! Good God, please say that's not true.

I do miss the tradional Disney musicals. I think that is what made Disney movies classics. Most of Disney's best animated movies like Beauty and the Beast were musical. They also seem to be more succesful than the more action-adventure movies like Atlanis .

I hate every Disney movie between 1960-1997.

Hercules was the only movie with music I could tolerate.

Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis, and Lilo & Stitch are steps in the right direction.

Yeah I can't wait for Lilo and Stitch(I can't believe I'm saying that about a Disney movie )
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

I loved Disney musicals. I still love Disney musicals. It's probably because Disney movies were a huge part of my childhood, and when I was little the songs were always my favorite part of the movie. There's just something about the emotion that you can put into a song or into music that is incredible. I still find myself listening to Disney music all the time. The songs which have been in Disney have ranged from truly beautiful masterpieces to songs that are really fun to sing and to listen to.

I had a conversation with my voice teacher a while back. She was telling me that I needed to put more emotion into my singing. She said that when a song is put into a musical, the reason that that song is there is because the emotion of that moment can't be expressed in any other way. I really love being able to see that emotion or the mood of the moment expressed through song. And Disney has had some wonderful people who have written music for their movies that, I feel, have captured the feeling of the movies perfectly. The songs give the movies character and depth that I haven't been able to find in the recent movies without songs.

I have nothing against movies without characters breaking into song. Truthfully, I really can't imagine the movie Atlantis with songs. But, I don't want to see Disney drop the concept of animated musicals completely. There is something about the music that has made their movies more enjoyable and memorable.

The only thing that I miss about the era of musicals is the fact that its end has ushered in a new era of cheap gags. Now all of disney's movies rely on annoying sidekicks and cheap gags rather than good music or a good story. But some people prefer the gags to the music, I guess to each his own.

If they want to put out a musical now and then, that's their perogative, but I doubt I will be seeking them out to watch. I have liked the switch they have taken more recently, and I want to see more.

I will not miss those musicals. I always found them annoying and they seem to detract from the flow from the plot. I'm not saying that they were bad though. The Disney musicals were some of the best ever created, but I still find them annoying.
