    Disney XD coming to Canada!!!!

    Like This Thread!
Astral Media has announced that it will add Disney XD to its slate of kid chanels on June 1, 2011.
A spin-off of the Disney Channel, Disney XD mostly airs action-oriented children’s animated television series, with some live-action programming and movies aimed at male viewers age 6 to 14.
Programming will include movies, short form content, popular Disney series as well as Canadian content. Shows will include the martial arts comedy Kickin’ It, the animated Kick Buttowski – Suburban Daredevil and the Canadian comedy Wingin’ It. Other kid favourites which currently air on Family Channel such as Phineas and Ferb and I’m In The Band will also air on the station.
In addition to the linear service, Disney XD programming will also be available through dedicated on demand channels and a website at DisneyXD.ca.
Unlike Disney Junior and Family stations which are commercial free, Disney XD will be advertiser-supported and will run commercials during breaks.
No word on when Canadians might expect a Canadian version Disney XD HD, a high definition version of XD which launched in the United States last October.

According to Wikipedia it will air:

You can expect to see Marvel shows ween their way off other networks with this addition to Canadian television.

I wonder if they'll show Naruto Shippuden since YTV still hasn't.

So... unlike Nickelodeon Canada, this'll pretty much be as lame as the same channel we get on this side of the border (minus Goof Troop and Aladdin... and Hercules, I guess).

Actually though, I'd still probably take this over the States' version. Some classics are better than no classics, and outside of the occasional Gargoyles rerun at 3:00 AM, the Disney Afternoon representation over here is sitting somewhere along the lines of "slim" and "none". At least you guys get three former DA stalwarts, even if they are kind of the lesser end of what that block had to offer.

I sent this in as news to the newsroom here weeks ago, but they didn't run a story on it.

Astral Media probably won't. Their children's programming acquisitions are pretty easy to guess, if it's owned by Disney they'll get it, if it isn't no. They kind of proved my point that they don't really care when fans asked about Power Rangers Samurai , and they said they'd probably air it. Like a week later Corus announced it for Nick Canada.

Besides, knowing Astral they'd probably shove the show to 5AM on Sundays.

It should be noted that Corus Entertainment and Astral inked a deal with Marvel that would see Teletoon being Marvel Animation's home in Canada. It was a few years ago, so I'm unsure of its validity at this point. Though Astral owning half of Teletoon probably allows them to take whatever they want as long as Corus agrees.

Astral is much know for taken a big cake part from others intellectual properties rather to their own materials. They put their tags everywhere in their radios, TV and billboards from that name. I don't like that kind of advertising, looks like the pile of Shaw/Canwest and Quebecor but with less financings ways.

I wonder for how many years this deal is inked? Once its expired, could be possible then it might be renegociated?

Found this article: heres a portion of it...

Toronto – TELETOON Canada Inc. and Marvel Animation today announce a multi-year output deal that sees TELETOON become the home of Marvel Animation in Canada. Beginning in spring 2009, a broad spectrum of Marvel animated series will air on TELETOON networks in both English and French. The agreement sees Marvel deliver a minimum of 182 episodes of first-run animation for broadcast and includes rights for additional platforms including broadband, video-on-demand, mobile and other online opportunities.

Makes me wonder though if Astral will indeed air some of these shows or stick with first and second run Disney shows for now(as seems to be the case)... My opinion is that I'd say it may be possible that some will be coming to Disney XD Canada at a much later time.

So, Disney XD Canada will not be getting this show, I wonder why? It does good in ratings (I think, I must admit I have not been following the threads on it), so I don't know why Disney would keep it away. I guess they're still getting money for the show from Teletoon, but I don't see how its presence could hurt Disney XD. Anyway, I'm happy about this news. I have been desperate to watch that network for years, even when it was Toon Disney. I'll definetely be there to watch it.

Well if the Marvel stuff stays on Teletoon and Teletoon Retro I really wont be complaining much because we can still see it there. Maybe we will get some Disney classics to stay on Disney XD... Goof Troop is sure a show I'm looking forward to seeing and they show it on the XD in Sweden so why not lol......

Looks like it has more airings of some cartoons than we get in the US. So that's something.

No Naruto Shippuden (not surprised but I must admit I was kind of hoping it would air there so it would you know... air in Canada somewhere).

Also no Avengers: EMH or Spectacular Spider-Man but if they're both on Teletoon then no worries. If Spidey is not at least on Teletoon then well... rage but I was under the impression that got plenty of reruns.

Looks like they don't have X-Men: Evolution either but again that's probably held by another channel.

How many of these shows already air on another non-Disney owned channel in Canada anyway?

Almost all of the shows on Disney XD already air on the Family Channel. The notable exception is Kick Buttowski, which so far seems to be a Disney XD exclusive. Then there's also the reruns for Ying Yang Yo and Gargoyles, as well as the few old Marvel shows airing in the late night hours.

Teletoon is no longer airing Spectacular Spider-Man, and X-Men: Evolution has not been seen in Canada in ages. Also, it's important to realize that this channel isn't really owned by Disney. Just like Family Channel, Disney XD is owned by Astral and was originally going to launch with the name Family Extreme. They probably just licensed the Disney XD name from Disney.

Excatly! They can air both those shows in the future. I hoping for much variety like with the 2009's Japan XD schedule to airing some classic Disney shows, Disney Channel favourites and Disney XD original materials but it's like they advantaged only the exclusives as Phineas and Ferb, Zeke and Luther and Kick Buttowski with some Cancon programmings.

Well, the wee hour lineup seems a pale imitation of what shows currently in the US version. Why don't just air those shows in primetime hours instead?

I'm really glad to see Gargoyles on that schedule (I wonder if we'll get The Goliath Chronicles - I know they aren't cannon but I haven't seen them all and am kinda interested to) but I don't think we'll be seeing any of the new Marvel shows for awhile there but I am stoked to see what appears to be the 1990s Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man and Fantastic Four. The deal with Teletoon is still on and I think still has another year or two to go before we perhaps see the newer toons.

It's just too bad that's all airing in the middle of the night.

Ya 5:30 AM my time is not a time I will want to see Gargoyles weekdays. At Least Saturdays and Sundays I can watch it if I'm up by 8 o' clock. Disappointed to not see Aladdin and Goof Troop there. I guess that was just a rumour.
