Toon Zone Talkback - Disney/Pixar's "Brave" Pre-Release Discussion

    Like This Thread!
This is the talkback thread for EW Has First Look At Pixar's "Brave".

Is Brenda Chapman actually still working on the film collaboratively, or has she left Pixar and the credit is just there for Pixar to still brag about "their first female director"?

You know, I almost want to feel skeptical about the fact that the first female protagonist they're having is....a princess. Not only is the concept old and overused, but it perpetuates the outdated idea that being born into royalty somehow makes you more significant. Plus, I'm not a very big idea of the conservative attitude behind "sacred customs".

But then I remember that Pixar can do no wrong....so I'll remain faithful for now.

    Why? Seriously, why?

I'm sick of this reflexive negativity towards Merida being a princess. Rapunzel was a princess and one of the most charming and entertaining Disney leads in a long time. Tiana was great as well. Why can't Merida be a great character as a princess as well?

I was worried about the possible impact of Chapman's departure on the film, but it seems like they're keeping the heart and soul of the story. I think this will be one of Pixar's best.

    I'm just happy this isn't a sequel.

Just FYI, Disney released a fourth new concept art image to the press, which is now included in the article (along with the other 3) direct from our servers.

Because we love you, that's why .

Wow, this looks really awesome. Looking forward to this one. I just hope it doesn't scare the little boys away. Us adults don't care, I own the Wonder Woman dtv, well she's a different story I guess.

Hmm..kind of reminds me of something that Disney done before using traditional animation. Have to see the movie of course, before jumping to any conclusions!

This sounds pretty interesting. Although it is only concept art, Merida doesn't look like a typical princess figure, which is kind of cool. I wonder what that ill-fated wish has to do with settling matters in her father's kingdom. I'm not sure if I'll go into theaters to see it, but I'll definitely read more about it as they continue releasing information about the film.

If you show me a boy who thinks a redhead slinging a bow on horseback is too girly, then I will show you a boy in dire need of a brick upside his big stupid head before he grows up to be a moron .

I have to admit that I didn't register much one way or the other until I saw this concept art and now I'm excited. If the movie looks like the concept art, I think it's going to be COOL. Plus, Kelly Macdonald as the heroine means real Scottish brogue, and one that I could listen to all day.

It's not about that, more like good old fashioned peer pressure. I don't imagine too many 8 year old boys talking about "Tangled" at the lunch table. However, this is how the studio thinks, not I. I know boys get dragged to these films by single moms and a bigger group, so they will probably see it.

    What the...?

Pixar doing a movie of a princess in a medieval setting? I did NOT see that coming! I'm starting to think Pixar has become more Disney than Disney... I guess that makes sense now though, with John Lasseter practically running the place.

These concept paintings look beautiful. I'm looking forward to it already!

I don't know; if "Tangled" proves any indication, Disney may be getting their groove back.

Oh, I don't deny it... but you gotta look at who's name seems to be stamped all over Disney's recent releases.

Well, John Lasseter IS the chief creative officer of the animation studios. Ain't no "seems" about it -- his name SHOULD stamped all over Disney's recent releases. It has been since he walked in the door with Meet the Robinsons. I thought that getting his talent back on animated films, both DTV and theatrical, was why Disney bought Pixar in the first place.

Why are you asking me why, when I explained my reasoning in the very same post you quoted?

"Idea" should be "fan", btw. That was a mistake. But my meaning should be clear enough, I think.
