Disney Afternoon vs. Disney 1 too!

Dark Spider Comment- Disney Afternoon vs. Disney's One too!

    Disney Afternoon

Point blank, if you were born in the mid eighties and before, then you know the Disney Afternoon! As a kid, I loved this block to death. I remember I would come home from elementary school, and tune in to the Disney Afternoon. It would last 2 hours from 3 to 5 pm (although it might have been different in your area).

I remember such shows as (probably a complete list):
    -Ducktales
    -Gummi Bears
    -TaleSpin
    -Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers
    -Goof Troop
    -Darkwing Duck
    -Bonkers
    -Gargoyles
    -The Mighty Ducks
    -Timon and Pumbaa
    -Aladdin
    -Quack Pack
    -101 Dalmations

Most of these shows were awesome, especially DuckTales!

I also liked Disney's Formating of the block. The block was like a conveyor belt. Every season the block would produce one new show. This would be shown at the very end of the block. All the previous shows would be pushed up a half hour to accomodate the new show. The first show on the block of last season (usually the oldest show) would be pushed off the block, since it had, by that time, a whole mess of runs.

Also the newest show of that season would also be shown on ABC on saturdays (remember those extra saturday helpings of Darkwing Duck or Goof Troop!). And the shows that were pushed off of the block would then be moved to the Disney Channel where they can be enjoyed for eternity.

This block was perfect!! That's probably why it lasted for nearly 10 years!!! The block ended in 1998 or 1999 (I forgot)

    Disney's One too!

Back in 1996 or 1997, Disney completely revamed ABC's saturday morning line-up. They made it into Disney's One Saturday Morning! This block featured Disney's newest animation, and was a decent change to ABC's faceless saturday mornings.

This block included shows such as:
    -Recess
-Doug (One of Nickelodeon's first Nicktoons, that was bought by Disney)
    -Pepper Ann
-Mickey's Mouseworks (later changed to the House of Mouse)
    -Sabrina the Teenage Witch
    -Winnie the Pooh (old episodes)
    -Lloyd in Space
-Bugs and Tweety show (kinda off the block, but was still there)
    - and much more...

This block was a huge success and it is still running. As a weekday supplement to the block, Disney's One too was created. This featured weekday airings of the saturday morning toons.

But I consider this to be the "Disney Afternoon Part II". This block is portraying many of the old habits the Disney Afternoon did. Every season the block would produce a new show (or feature an old show from Saturdays that was new to the block). New shows on the block are "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" and "The Legend of Tarzan". The block also does the little "conveyor belt" thing TDA did with their shows. This block is currently running on most UPN affiliates.

Now I ask you a question...

Do you like the Disney Afternoon better than Disney One too? Tell why. Also, tell any fond memories of the Disney Afternoon that you may have.

If you hate anything about this post or any of the blocks, their welcome also...

I liked Disney Afternoon better! They had better shows!

Man, I remember coming home from school everyday and watching Goof Troop, Bonkers, and Aladdin. Timon n Pumbaa was very good as well

Remember that show that CBS had a while back called "Raw Toonage"? It had Bonkers and Marsupilami on it!

Down with One Saturday Morning, I say! The Disney Afternoon had way better shows than the garbage that's on now. (Although I'd like to check out Mickey Mouse Works.) The shows had more adventure, and more creative storytelling. Now a days it's dull, and boring life lessons with drawing styles I wouldn't touch with A 10 foot poll!

Disney Afternoon was much better. I mean they had Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Tale Spin, Gargoyles, and Bonkers. Those shows were (and still are) great. Only good things on Disney's Saturday Morning were Mickey's shows.

Oh, how I wish I got Toon Disney.

Disney Afternoon! I used to watch that almost every day after school... I remember DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin, etc! That beats Teamo Supremo and Teacher's Pet any day if you ask me!

Disney Afternoon - simply for the Gummi Bears. My hatred of everything else Disney (aside from Tron and The Black Hole) stands firm... except when bouncing here there and everywhere...

Yeah, Disney Afternoon rocked, especially Darkwing Duck! Batman started airing about the same time, so I knew where they were going with it...

    Disney Afternoon.

Ever those they were not on the Disney Afternoon, does anybody remeber "The Wuzzles" and "Raw Toonit"?

"Raw Toonit" was a cartoon variety show with a different celebrity host each week. For example, one episode has Uncle Scrooge as the host. The show was broken down into Bonkers!, Totally Tastleless Videos, and that one yellow thing with that big tail.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of "Raw Toonage". Yeah, I miss that show too. By the way, the yellow thing with the big tail is Marsupilami.

There's also the Shnookums 'n' Meat Funny Cartoon Show (which, if I'm not mistaken, was the show that eventually became Raw Toonage), but to be honest the actual S 'n' M half was so much a poor man's Ren 'n' Stimpy it was unwatchable to me. The Sebastian shorts were ok.

And Wuzzles...the show about animal hybrids that helped fuel me into the funny animal fandom....*all teary eyed* DAMN YOU TOON DISNEY FOR AIRING THE SHOW AT UNGODLY HOURS!!!!! *breaks down and cries*

I...I'm sorry...*sniff* got a bit emotional there for a sec.

And before I forget about the actual question...Disney Afternoon, hands down. I don't mind the occasional educational show every now and then, but an entire block of cute little comedy shows with little kids learning to not do drugs and stay in school...Gaaah, no thank you!

What made DA so special was the fact that it was varied. Yes, it had its comedy (Ducktales, Goof Troop, etc.), but it had a fair balance between plain ol' fun with just a dash of moral learnings.

The block also had action shows, like Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck (though that one's more of an action/comedy show). Sure there's Buzz Lightyear (one of the better one-Sat shows, in my opinion) and Legend of Tarzan (Which I've never seen, so I can't comment on), but with so many 'Stylized Kid Toons' in between, the shows look like they were shoe-horned in the block to help remind folks 'See, we ARE Disney! You can tell by the fact these shows were drawn in our style! And Mickey's here, too! LOOK, DARN YOU, LOOK!'

*Sighs* Guess the Wuzzles thing still has me emotional...forgive me...
What you call Courage, is it not just Pride?
What you think is Love, could it not be just Lust?
Has your want for Friendship ever been blinded by your Wrath?
Does your thirst for Knowledge ever get tainted by Greed?
Does your sense of Reliability ever come short and become Sloth?
Is it truly Sincerity...or merely Envy?
Is it truly Hope that you seek or are you just a victim of Gluttony?

    Where are your Savers...?

Well there are some technicalities. Technically, one saturday morning is from 8AM to 9:30AM or 10AM. Bugs and Tweety begins at 10:00AM. But the thing is, the One Saturday Morning commercial bumpers and things are still shown until 1PM!!! So its outside the main block, but its still within it though.

    NEW EDIT:
Bugs and Tweety are cancelled so I'm going by last years schedule.

The Disney block hit it's peak with me when it was "Ducktales", "Rescue Rangers", "Tailspin", and "Darkwing Duck". It all went downhill from there. The shows "Disney 1" suck like the vacuum of space. It seems that most of those shows, like "Teacher's Pet", has a pro-political correctness message attached that bugs me. It's seems like they spend so much time not trying to offend anyone that they alienate a nice-sized section of the audience. The worst offender, however, is "Recess". This show, to me, is what "Hey Arnold" would be like if it stunk. I know that "Arnold" has some of that PC junk in it too (mainly Mr. Simmons), but they don't try to ram it down your throat. In the later episodes, they actually make fun of it! I say that they should back "Ducktales", thus making the world a better place for all.

You know what's just as bad as One Saturday Morning? Zoog Disney. (shudder.) Shows like "So Wierd", "Even Stevens", "Lizzie McGuire", and "Jett Jackson" suck beyond belife! They are EVIL! (note the sarcasm.) They shove all this PC crap down your throught as well as use retarded MTV style editing. Death to all things Zoog, Death to all video sequles, and Death to One Saturday Morning! Bring back the Disney Afternoon!!!
