*looks at the title of the thread*

Wow, I didn't know Winnie the Pooh was that old. jk

I'm sorry to say this, but do we really need another Winnie the Pooh movie? Wasn't the last Winnie the Pooh film one of the last 2D Disney flims that nearly ended Disney's 2D movie career?

Still, I think it's wonderful that Disney is continuing its trend with 2-D animated features. Even if this calls for using original characters a lot of people have known for a long time.

If it means that Disney can make more money and merchandise by adding another useless character in the Winnie the Pooh series, I'm looking at you Lumpy, then yes. The Mouse has every power to do so even though Pooh should just needs to stay on TV and DVD/Blu-Ray only.

Disney's version of Pooh got his start with theatrical featurettes which (IMHO) are some of the nicest films Disney turned out in the late 60s and early 70s. Give them a watch sometime.

I see nothing wrong with a new 2D Pooh movie as long as it's animated well and not directly aimed at preschoolers. If they go for the feel of the featurettes and try for an old-school look (and I wouldn't be surprised if they did) this might turn out to be pretty good. After all, a "lesser" theatrical film isn't necessarily a bad thing. Disney released Ducktales the Movie and A Goofy Movie during a period of major growth and those two films didn't cause any adverse effects.

    People are overreacting to this.

I'm surprised so many people are opposing this. I'm perfectly fine with a new Pooh film, especially now that Disney Feature Animation has gotten back on track. This could be a great opportunity for Disney to finally get Pooh and the other characters out of the "for preschoolers ONLY" camp they've been in since around 2000. This is an opportunity to get Pooh back up to "family" status and get him away from that "babysitter movie" fear that Jerry Beck complained about in the first post.

Of course, I'm sure Disney's marketing would never let that happen and Pooh and pals will forever remain in toddler land. Still, though, this could be a great opportunity to make a Pooh film that doesn't talk down to the audience like the past few have been. I'm all for it, especially given the improvement Disney's made with their feature films in recent years.

John Pannozzi, there is a typo in your heading. You said "1011," when it should be 2011. Apparently, I don't think films and buttered popcorn were ever heard of during the 11th century.

I've seen it and I'm willing to bet that everyone on this board had seen the film. The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, from what it was and from waht I can remember, was leagues better than the last three Pooh films.

I'm actually siding with the people who think that Pooh's time in the cineplex has come and gone even though he'll live on on Playhouse Disney. I like him but I don't really see the need of seeing him in anything else but that movie if I have the TV on. Not to sound negative but the new Pooh film has the smell of a franchise reboot just like what almost every old film or other film franchise is doing nowadays.

The movie is being produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. This marks the first time in more than 35 years that a Winnie the Pooh motion picture is being produced at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Under the supervision of John Lasseter and producer, Clark Spencer ("Lilo & Stitch," "Bolt") the movie is due out in theaters spring 2011. Steve Anderson ("Meet the Robinsons") and Don Hall (head of story on "The Princess and The Frog") will co-direct. Tidbit: Burny Mattinson who worked as an animator on the original Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree featurette in 1964 will serve as the lead story artist on the project.

There's no doubting that, but two of those 3 weren't nearly as bad as many people claim.

Can someone change the thread title? The year 1011 is almost a thousand years ago and I don't think Pooh even existed back then.

At least its 2D. Pooh and co look bad in CGI. I wonder how this will turn out. Hopefully it would be a preschool only thing.

Well, they could have gone the live action route and made Christoper Robin real and the Pooh gang CG creations.

My feeling, and I'm hearing this feeling a lot, is that this is a project to keep the animators and other artists busy while their next "big" feature is being developed (I hear it's a Chris Buck feature). Kind of like a Rescuers Down Under deal.

Yay, my blog is making the rounds!

Except, I was only posting the link at other forums - to force people to go see my blog.

But that's okay. Any press is good press!

Agreed. And if this new movie has a "Heffalumps & Woozles"eqse sequence in there, I'll be paying attention!
