    TALKBACK - "Cars 2" Pre-Release Discussion (SPOILERS)

    Like This Thread!
According to Animated News, and this site, Pixar's making a Cars 2, which will come out in 2011, a year after Toy Story 3.

    I don't know about ya'll, but I don't like this at all.
    Hey that rhymes!

Cars 2? Why that of all movies? Also Pirates of the Caribean 4 and National Treasure 3

That came completely out of nowhere to me. But the other two sequels were no-brainers.

OK, speaking in an "anti-rant" mind, I admit Cars wasn't perfect but I still liked it anyway. This is Pixar we're talking about. For all we know, if they are aware of how flawed the first movie was, then they're bound to pick themselves up and produce a sequel that'll be miles ahead of the first. After all, People make mistakes so they can learn from them

And I'm not too excited about NT 3 nor POTC 4 - probably would have been best to stop when they weren't so complicated to follow.

I didn't particularly like Cars, so I'm not really looking forward to this. But hey, who knows? Might surprise me and be really good.

Hmm, Animation Magazine have already covered this topic, but according to them, a Cars sequel is unlikely to happen before an Incredibles one.

I hope they explain in the sequel the origin of the cars themselves. Car Buddha perhaps?

Well, one can only hope. Out of all the Pixar movies to sequelize, "Cars" would be my last pick. An Incredibles sequel would be much better--the entire first movie was an origin story, now let's see a real adventure!

In other news, via the link....so work's picked back up on another Tron? They were talking about "Tron 2.0" years ago but it got turned into a video game instead. I've seen renders for proposed scenery in what was supposed to be the movie version, and....I don't really think this should be made. The problem is, the visuals were too good. They made the original look like garbage. I'd rather the sequel stick to the same visual style.

Personally, I want to see the Incredibles sequel Brad Bird is talking about, but okay I guess. Didn't see the frist, so I can't comment on the second. It was probably chosen for it's ability to sell planeloads of merch.

Didn't Paul Newman claim Cars was the last movie he was gonna work on?

Definatly would've rather had an Incredibles sequal

Nemo sequal would probably worst movie to sequal IMO

If Disney doesn't have a single original idea in 2011, I'll be kinda sad.

Tron 2.0 was a videogame that got people to make up rumors about a sequel happening.

Cars did get a sequel in the videogames based on the success of the first Cars game. I don't care about cars or racing and I enjoyed the movie, I wouldn't mind another one. I'm a superhero fan and while I enjoyed the Incredibles it was nothing out of the ordinary amazing.

I should hope so. I liked Cars, but where the blazes do you go with the story?!

OTOH, The Incredibles 2? That would certainly work.

Cars definitely doesn't seem like the kind of movie that needs a sequel, especially considering, IIRC, it was one of the lower-earning Pixar movies. Of course, as people said, said movies don't really need sequels, either.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's mainly for merchandise reasons. Most of the Pixar movies don't sell merchandise anymore, but Cars continues to sell video games, toys, and whatnot to this day. If they can keep the merchandise momentum going, then a Cars 2 will rake in tons of money in more ways than one.

That really upsets me. I mean, making an animated sequel to cash in on a franchise is very unlike Pixar.

I think it would work better than Bug's Life 2 or Monsters Inc 2 or even Rat-a-2-y. There's not too much you could do with those ones without ruining them. Considering we're getting confirmation on Incredibles 2, I wonder how it will be done. What can Brad bring to the film they haven't already done? There are a lot of Super Hero parodies out there, and I felt the entire plotline of a crazed super hero wanna be systimatically killing every Superhero so he could save the city was something that really was fresh. The Incredibles was pretty dark a film. Even the comedy was dark (montage of superheroes
getting mangled in jet engines from capes.

Car 2, however, seems like a film that is destine to be made. I said it before, it's not my favorite (actually it's my least favorite) Pixar film, but they clearly knew something would happen with merchandising. The film has been out for 2 years, and Cars toys keep appearing (and selling out) on store shelves. They even decided to tap into the new "Galactic Heroes" type 2 minifigure pack sensation(as did the TMNT, but that's another story). Rat movie merchandise was limited, and disappeared from shelves to the clearance bin by the time the DVD came out. I don't think they've seen a merchandising bonanza on a Pixar film this big since Toy Story (which quickly became a brand, and led to years of merchandising).

I can also see some plotline in there somewhere. Years have passed, and now Lightning has retired. But not of a horrible car crash/sports injury however, and he's training young cars to race or something. I can even see it parodying the conventions of Sport films.

Incredibles honestly was Watchmen in a rated PG fashion. I recognized a lot of it right off the bat. I give Bird credit for doing such a decent job with it and keeping it family friendly to an extent.
