I'm roughly guessing that's the Mickey prototype that wound up becoming his rival Mortimer Rodent in the comics/cartoons.
Was there a mouse before MICKEY that was changed due to facial features looking too much like a rat? This rat was not liked by the public so the mouses' physical features were softened. If so did the original (don't know if the rat/mouse was ever named) mouse have the red bow tie, buttons, red feet and tail? An educational channel a few years ago had a program about the history of Mickey. They showed a "pre-Steamboat" Mouse at the beginning of the program.![]()

I believe he's thinking of the shoe-less "prototype" Mickey that appears in "Plane Crazy", which was made before "Steamboat Willie" but was released after.
That makes better sense I think
