I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.

Hey why is Mulan in the miss category? It had one of the coolest villans in a Disney movie ever.
Awwww....You guys don't like "The Sword in the Stone?" I thought it was a cute movie, but then again, I'll love almost any movie that has to do with King Arthur unless it's really REALLY poorly done. And I'm surprised to see "The Black Cauldron" on your list of 'hits.' From what I gathered on the internet everyone hated it but me!
I pretty much agree with you guys on what you put on your lists other than what I've mentioned.
Sleeping Beauty made $51 million in 1959, but adjusting for inflation, it comes to $317 million which isn't too shabby.
Without adjusting for inflation, all of these films are pretty decent "hits":
Hercules - $100 million ($150 overseas)
Mulan - $120 million ($183 overseas)
Dinosaur - $137 million ($210 overseas)
Pocahontas - $141 million ($205 overseas)
Tarzan - $171 million ($264 overseas)
The Lion King 2 is the most successful direct to video feature EVER so that also seems like a "hit" to me.
I edited your list so it fit me:

Sleeping Beauty <-----my favorite! The Villain is creepy as hell!

1. Re: Disney Hits/Misses - Day the Earth Stood Still 1951
I disagree, I love The Lion King, Simba's Pride, Mulan and Dinosaurs. I enjoyed Rescuer's Down Under a little more than the original. Also Sleeping Beauty is a classic and I love the film.
2. Re: Disney Hits/Misses - kompressor57 1971
Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland belong with the Hits,as well as The Parent Trap,Old Yeller,Davey Crockett,Freaky Friday
Misses...102 Dalmations,2nd version of the Parent Trap and in my opinion Doug(he is not what I consider Disney)
1. Re: Disney Hits/Misses - waxxlipz 1972
I agree with you K57 - Sleeping Beauty and Alice are def. HITS! But I can do without all the new sequels to the hits that Disney is coming out with now.
Thumbs up on The Parent Trap, and Freaky Friday - I'm adding Pollyanna and Mary Poppins to the list too.
3. Re: Disney Hits/Misses - cheffychic 1986
Hey Bud, well, gotta disagree with ya on some of them. Tarzan was actaully pretty good as well as Mulan. I think they weren't as accepted though, becuase it wasn't typical disney, it was just different type of stuff. ON the other hand, I don't really like Snow White, it's pretty scary, but since it's such a breakthrough in films, I guess that it deserves to get kudos. Ummmm...but most of your misses are pretty accurate. bye

7. Re: Disney Hits/Misses - SBD 1981
"Misses:
Alice in Wonderland
The Sword in the Stone
Atlantis
The Emperor's New Groove
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad"?!
Are you out of your tree?!
Alice in Wonderland - Sure it lags a bit, but it is still a good film.
The Sword in the Stone - I don't understand why so many people dislike this film. Some of the jokes don't date very well, but I enjoyed it.
Atlantis - An excellent, terrifically entertaining adventure film that shows that 2-D animation isn't dead yet.
The Emperor's New Groove - One of the funniest films I've ever seen. A laugh riot from start to finish.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad - I can't speak for the "Mr. Toad" half, but the "Ichabod" half is wonderful. Tim Burton referenced it twice in "Sleepy Hollow".
As for your hits, I agree with most of them. You made an especially good call on the "Goofy" movies. It's a shame that more people don't like them.
8. Re: Disney Hits/Misses - the totally awesome dude 1958
The Emperor's New Groove, I'm sorry but I think that the movie, is great.
Tarzan, is OK but it's far from being a miss.

Why'd ya' have to leave us so soon?
Let’s not forget about Hercules, people. Stick that in the hit category.
What do you mean by "misses?" Ones that Disney considers misses becuase they didn't pull in the $$$$$? I think Emperor's New Groove is very much a hit. I think Disney finally got a movie right.
Some people I know have been nagging me for wanting to buy Atlantis on Tuesday. I told them that's exactly the kind of movie they need to support, because it gets away from the singing animal formula we've been stuck with for the last 1000 years or so. I would also put that on a hit list. But then again, they are hits with me, and perhaps not other people.
Don't feel bad, Calhoun, I'm an Atlantis supporter, too. ANYTHING but another lousy musical comedy!!Originally posted by Calhoun07

God, how I love "Xyber 9". Well, except Rosalyn--shame it was cancelled before she could be killed off.
My list, with opinions where we differ
Hits:
Sleeping Beauty - a classic. . .
Alice in Wonderland - trippy, in a good way. . .
The Sword in the Stone - silly, but fun
The Emperor's New Groove - meant to be zany. Succeeds. . .
Tarzan - not too thrilled with plotting, but worth it for the animation. . .
The Rescuers - not very ambitious in the first place, and a good, simple story. . .
The Rescuers Down Under - THIS is how Disney should do action. . .

Pinnocchio

I think this is all an opinion thing... As I recall, Pinnocchio didn't do too well in theatres when it opened in '40...
Not to mention the critics crucified Citizen Kane right about that same time....RockItShipper:
...Pinnocchio didn't do too well in theatres when it opened in '40...
Really, if by hit you mean a moneymaker, then most really brilliant and artistic movies would be flops. However, a really cerebral or visually stunning movie like Snow White or Cinderella or modern classics like Pocahantas and The Lion King possess staying power and has been/will be talked about fifty or sixty years later.
I sincerely hope in, say, 2035, Disney won't be best remembered for its inane sequels or its goofball efforts starring too-cute prepubescents, ball-playing dogs, and figure-skating chimpanzees....
What's wrong with the original "FANTASIA"?????????? (original meaning uncut completely-not the so-called restored DVD-still missing centaurs) Thats an excelent film, and it was Walt Disney himself's favorite, so please notice it!
And what about it's "Spinoffs", like Make Mine Music, or Melody Time? Those are even better in my eyes (if Disney wouldnt edit them!!!)
